I vote Max Ostro for next game changing guitarist. Give him another 5 years to mature but the guy has the phrasing and feel nailed at his age. He plays yngwie better than he does. Go Max go. You should be recognized more. Your skill level at your age is outstanding.

Pretty tasteless to hate on the guy who won, when he didn't decide. Why post this on his video? Send it to the guys who chose the winners if you're that compelled. This guy just wrote and nailed a sweet ass solo, regardless of your opinion of Max. He did nothing other than enter.

Nowadays there are so many great guitar players with great technical ability. But making a beautiful and memorable composition with not too much showing off the skills...only pure genius can do that. You're more than deserved to win this brother!
I've been meaning to make a video about it sometime, because it's interesting to see the split in comments between praise and "better than", as you did.
I worked on my solo early on in the contest, so I didn't worry about the judging criteria, and just tried to put together what I've always thought about a good solo to the best of my ability.
It's something that I can almost sing, and is memorable to the ear.
A phrase that anyone can likely play.
A little playfulness.
You want to pick up a guitar too included.
I hoped that this solo become like that for you guys...

Yep, that’s where it’s at. The young cats would need to go back and learn from great jazz composers, classical composers and symphonic orchestras to understand this. Joe Zawinul, John McLaughlin, Jaco, Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter understood this in the jazz vein.
This is a very good solo for sure but Max Ostro as made an incredible solo for this 2k19 contest. Is the winner for me.

This is definitely the best. Solos don't need to be hard to sound good unlike other entries that begins with freaking explosive tapping. This is what i'm looking for.

rucy really beautiful phrasing . I listened to alot of the contestants and this was absolutely the most balanced and tasteful. Guitar players often lose sight of the music and join the guitar olympics.. Despite of how technically talented you are you wrote something very pleasant to listen to and satisfying. This is the kind of playing i don’t have to watch to enjoy.. this is playing I could easily listen to in my car and throughly enjoy . This was well deserved. P.s id love tabs for this.

That was just absolutely lovely, but for pure "contest purposes", I think the Max Ostro entry was flights above it.
I have to agree. This is a stellar little solo, but Max's effort was other-worldly. No losers here, especially the rest of us who get to watch these young masters at work.

Max is an excellent example of a modern day shredder that has yet to learn to pace himself. Of course he also has to plaster his age on all his videos. That way we're more impressed.

Because the kid simply deserved it. I don't wanna diminish the other players credits, all of them are excellent, but the kids solo was the most creative. Kiesel didn't award him because he's endorsed by Ibanez.

0:27 - those two notes just a semi-tone apart, very assured, very nice and to my ears very reminiscent of some of Plini's playing. An incredible effort.

Not to take away from this one, but for me that title would go to Nick Llerandi's Mayones/Seymour Duncan Solo Contest entry from 10 years ago, super complex and harmonically different yet I still have the motifs from it pop into my head from time to time to this day

I like the super restrained intro that continues as a theme throughout. I can tell that you held back from a technical standpoint for the sake of keeping it melodic and musical. Nice work! Hope you find similar enjoyment from mine- I think we took a similar approach.

For the beginners: Composing and playing dynamic solos like these are way harder and pleasing to ears than playing 5000 notes per beat and tapping with 11 fingers
Not really harder but is definitely more pleasing to listen to for some people

Max Ostro is a virtuoso. No doubt about it. But he wouldnt have been able to write the solo as melodic this. If you think the contest is just about technique then you guys are missing the point.

I feel like chipping in a bit. Since I've seen new comments pouring in. Here's my take..technically, Max was unmatchable and he was melodic as well. But, the phrasing on this one is impeccable. I can actually sing the parts and that's the beauty of it. Anyway, they're both phenomenal players. The UA-cam guitar community should be more supportive instead of just arguing about ..who has more strings..who plays faster.
Such a gorgeous lemon grass finish on that guitar and the playing of course without saying is top notch!!
seems like every 5 years there's a new trendy "must have" technique included in every song, I'm hoping the end of sweeps is near, I'm bored to death of them lol. OH! sorry, I thought this was beautifully done :) gj mate!

En estos niveles la tecnica es lo de menos, practicamente todos los concursantes son excelentes guitarristas.
Solo queda ver cual de todos tiene mejor "llegada" a la gente, gusta mas.

It was worth doing because I felt like that was acknowledged a little.
This guitar called "STRADA" was trance red but It changed to trance green burst on my will.

Really good solo, but Max Ostro should have won. His playing is original, virtuose, melodic and original. I really dont get it....🙁
Max Ostro Was the perfect example of the danger of being overly technical without a good foundation. Yeah, he's really good, but If you know about guitar and playing music, you can see It's just a bunch of licks and scales played In a rapid fashion with expertise. There's not a lot of soul In this kind of playing 'cause It's very self indulgent and It leaves no breathing room. The winner gets It, It's not just about you being able to play, It's how you can weave your notes, while being able to tell a story, at the same time.

@@nobodyinterestingyou The foundation is the backing band, Max's job is to simply lead off of that starting from any note or position on the guitar he pleases, if you know guitar and playing music then you'll know that it's all about personality and freedom of expression which Max did to the best of his skill level and it's not just a bunch of licks and scales to the guitarist, it is more than just that to them, it's their own personal display of accomplishment and celebration of the instrument.
There are no set rules to playing guitar, a player can do what they want however they please, if they wish to be flashy or take the simple and basic approach that's just fine, but one can go beyond the simple boundaries and limitations if their abilities allow them.
Every musician has soul even in Max's "kind of playing" which sounds very reminiscent of guitarist Scott Mishoe's "kind of playing" on the track Mal-Funk-Shen from his album Omnidirectional.
Max's ideas for his solo seems to be heavily influenced from a lot of hybrid /economy picking fusion rock guitarists in the likes of Frank Gambale, Brett Garsed, Guthrie Govan and Tom Quayle, whom also display "this kind of playing" something of which clearly doesn't satisfy your musical taste.
I have to disagree, it IS about you being able to play, it's players choice on how they weave their notes, it's their own story to tell and not merely something to satisfy or please the ego's of onlookers and listeners.
As for the winner, his solo is also fantastic and I congratulate him and the many other fine guitar players who submitted an entry, well done to you all.
