Lyrics:
Well
Play at your own risk
Spent some lonely days and sleepless nights
Waiting for you girl to hold me tight
You run around like I do not exist
Played me for a fool girl you been so cruel
Girl you had me like a puppet on a string
I thought without your love
Life wouldn't mean a thing
Girl the freedom that I gave you you abused
If you want my love girl you've got to choose
P-l-a-y if you play with me
It's at your risk that I'll set you free
Play at your own risk girl
Play at your own risk I'm tellin' you
Play at your own risk girl
Play at your own risk I will be cruel
P-l-a-y if you play with me
It's at your risk that I'll set you free (Repeat)
I thought I had a woman oh so fine
Now I gotta watch you all the time
If you think that you're so hot stuff
I'll take you to the top
And then I'll let you drop
Girl you had me like a puppet on a string
I thought without your love
Life wouldn't mean a thing
Girl the freedom that I gave you you abused
If you want my love girl you gotta choose
(Play at your own risk
Girl you betta watch your step
Playing at your own risk
P-l-a-y if you play with me
It's at your risk girl I'll set you free
Set you free

Even after all these years, 40, the beats, sets and grooves are still fresh and relevant. The 80s groups were on the cutting edge.
Can you imagine never hearing anything like this. And it comes out. Game changer. Life changing. Culture changing. The beginning of an era that have changed black music forever.
We lived it! The young generation has no clue!
@@DR-xt9ux a White man produced this (Arthur Baker), music has no boundaries or color
@@mentazmic🔥🔥🔥
@@jamesastleford6812I'm a 2000s baby and this has been my jam ever since I'm lucky to have family that's up there in age that brought me in on old classics like this!
Yes changed by Arthur Baker who was white
The best 12" record of all time!!! AND STILL!!!
I miss this generation of music. Tommy Boy was straight killin' it back in the early 80s. I still remember back in '82 jammin' off this joint at the age of 16
P
Back in the 80's whilst driving into city, if this track ever came on in the car, we'd turn up the Alpine crystal volume, the sound would explode through the JBL 6 x 9 150Watters, we'd stop at traffic lights, get out and break...
All cars would wait, honk their horns and cheer! Fun times, great memories.
😂🔥
Awesome times for sure.
One of the greatest ever written!!!
Gen X Like a Mutha Fuka !! 👍👍👍👍
Still jamming this at 56, and am proud to be part of an enlightened and creative musical generation.
Must be nice 😭😥 I always say I was born in the wrong era..
Man it was the best ever in our lives speaking as a 54 yr that saw it all too
@@bargainbeauty7529❤
This used to be the jam we as a basketball team came out to standing ovation for warm up as a high school basketball team way back in 1983 . I’m 58 years old and still remember and love those days
I'll soon be 53, so I hear ya LOUD & CLEAR! - 80's music was the shit, be it freestyle, rap, R&B, or rock... it was just a whole different type of generation. I can still recall jammin' the shit outta this song and bouncin' in the streets of Oak Park & Detroit Michigan.
Maaaannn words can't describe how great it feels to hear this again after all these years!!!! 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This sound crossed all boundaries! When this song Played Black , white green , purple, green we all came out to feel the music and dance!
For sure but of course back then it wasn't about color it was about talent now everybody's got their heads shoved up other people's ass so far that they can't breathe anymore seems like
Word up.Miss those days bro
The youths need to start Breaking to handle beefs. Back in the 80's we would rock to this beat with cardboard platforms and red/blue/silver/black boom boxes. Back spins, windmills and of course the wild shuffling. The winner got a good rep across the neighborhood. We NEED to get back to music. The world will be an amazing place. Trust me I am 50 now and I still listen to tracks like this 40 years later.

FUCKING FACTS
Really? You're gonna tell someone that's entire culture is based on violence and substandard living to settle shit on cardboard?
42 here still bumping these jamz. I miss hearing my cousins neighbors playing Efunk all night on the weekends. Sometimes we'd sneak over and groove with the older folks! We were like 10 years old. Damn that shit was fun! 🎉❤
I lost my sister 6 months ago this was her favorite song rest in peace sister nothing but love n respect 🙏
Sister I love you n miss you so so much 😢
She had great taste. May she live on in the hearts and souls of those who loved her.
Sorry for your loss brother, your sister was real cool if she loved old stuff like this, this is also my favorite song.
One of the greatest songs ever produced.

One of The Best Electro Funk Albums i think ^^

No Question 💯
Happy 40th anniversary to one of the finest hop songs ever made.
I agree with you ❣️
Timeless music
Back then when Boom Boxes was the Shit!!! I had double cassette big speakers and 10(D) batteries 😂😂
I remember 😂
I still have my 100 or so cassets from 70s and 80s and they are still in perfect condition.
i did to it was a goldstar boombox 12 d batteries and a lasonic boom box 10 batteries with that big knob on it double cassette
Boom Box on the shoulder, feet on the cardboard... sliding backwards into cool.
U da grandmaster boombox
My dad would play this song on my way to my Pop Warner football games in the ‘80s. This was what I’d get fired up to :-).
After almost 40 years and I keep coming back to this one album. Best artist on Tommy Boy. Best album.
One of the baddest beats ever made 80s rock harder than any era🎉❤
No other song has or will come close to this. The ultimate jam 🎧❤🎧
Listen to outta space billy preston
U know it . They better play at there on risk...
I got into this tune when it first came out and I was a teen. Often thought about whether I prefer this or COD's In the Bottle but I think this tops everything and I have a lot of electro from Soul Sonic Force to Jonzun Crew. Those full on drums at 3.37 and then guitar twangs at 4.38 are so powerful. Cheers for sharing.
Yes their was
Member Planet Rock was the originator...
I know this song is from the 80s first time I heard this song was in 1995. I grew up right there on the east side Austin Texas Chicano Park every time we used to go outside and play kickball with our friends we used to listen to this song all the time and also breakdance to it, going on 40 years old stay safe my friends keep on supporting Chicano Park Eastside Austin Texas. Me in 2024 and I'm 56 still love all of our 80's music to this day and NEVER GONNA STOP
Miami rocked their clubs with songs like this and many others! Those were the great days of dancing and 4 wheeled skating!
And then in the 90’s it was Stevie B rocking Miami clubs
Ha ha It’s Hurricane Ian I’m Fl rocking!!
Love my freedom

Remember way back in the day when the hardest decision you had to make was wether you were gonna be a popper or a breaker..
Breaker. All the way!!!

Poplocking was the way to go. I looked like dancing Spaghetti on the floor.

I’m 39 years old, haven’t done a windmill in 20 years and playing this today I wanted to see if I still have it, and I sure do. Granted they are nowhere near as good as they used to be, but still got some moves son!
I wanted to show my nephew how to do the backspin properly, and injured my ribs on my right side. I thank god that I didn't show him how to do the windmill 😂 I want to get in shape and do the windmill again! 😎😎
The beginning of this track gives the chills, dope ass track, still relevant in the year 2020!

My big brother Shawn used to listen to this music and loved it. Now he's listening to it as an angel 😇 in heaven.
First time I heard this was at my cousin Bilal house may he rest in peace love this song
May they both RIP 😢

The 13 dislikes I can guarantee are from people not of this era and never probably been to a jam outside😂😂😂.
are their any dislikes 😮 they are sound dead just like Biden 😂😂😅
I loveeeee the older music!! It made more since and you could jam all day!!
One of the songs that inspired the urban genre of Latin Freestyle music
Respect
I just learned this today. You can hear it. Many of the same beats. I LOVE freestyle.. That's what we listened to in Miami in the late 80s to early 90s.. NYC, Miami, Philly.. Lil Suzy, Cover Girls, Stevie B, Expose.. Some of the best dance music ever made.
BACK IN THE DAYS WAS THE BEST BREAK DANCE.. NO DRUGS TO DANCE THIS NO WAY.... I STILL DANCE THIS LIKE NO TOMMOROW ..🙏❤👍🏻

The 80s
I’ve got this 12” and the album with this cover. The production is so crisp and clean, way ahead of its time. Tommy Boy Records and Arthur Baker laid the foundation that the street hip hop, rap, dance culture was built on!
You are so right. Rock steady crew lived on the next building in Crotona
Grand Master Flash down the street. Fun times back then, not all the drama
I agree, the production is prefect! One of the big letdowns of listening to my old favorites is the sound quality, but not here! It's like how you know a Dr. DRE produced track will almost always sound great.
Great beat! I remember living the 80's in Queens, NY and heading out to Rockaway Beach on the A train listening to this song. Great Times!
Remember Phase 2 on Queens Blvd??
@@greekpapi Holy Cow! YES! LOL. Of course I do remember vividly. 1986 - I had the silver membership card which Steve (The owner) gave to me for free because I caught a guy trying to break into his new Corvette back then. Wow man! Great memories.
For me it was to F train to coney island..dam miss those times 😥
Julio Diez you sure lived the good time my brother
Hahaha, I grew up in Rockaway in the 80s. This was the shit back then.
One of my go to jams for poppin back in 83 and 84

Definitely one of the coldest Hip Hop Tracks of all time - although we can argue it is ALSO (Technically) the first FREESTYLE TRACK too....It's sad that Planet Rock overshadowed this song, even though they used the same CORE TRACKS for both songs. It must be acknowledged - this song is unbelievably LEGENDARY in the Early World of Hip Hop.....Much Props to all those who had a part in making this song an experience!!!!!!!!
I’m 51 now and am not in the same shape I used to be but I can still wave and pop like I was in 8th grade. It just hurts a lot more now,!
Damn I remember 83 break dancing & now I’m 50 years old breaking apart !! 🤣😂😂

Still sounds so fresh. Timeless.
This is the track that made me a BBoy in the early 80's. Still hold this track as the song that shaped my musical taste to this day. I can still remember hearing this for the first time I had never heard anything like this in my life before. Fucking outstanding track.

I was a little too young to know this when it was originally out. I didn’t start listening to hip hop until about 88. My boy and I got into club/freestyle in mid 90s and he had a freestyle mix cd and this was on it. So it’s like ‘95 and we’re bumping this incredible joint from the early 80s in his truck
