    I think they deserve to become a state. But I don't think that Congress wants to let them in. The alternative is letting Puerto Rico going independent and I don't think that's great for the United States as a whole.

    We’ve, the people of Puerto Rico, have voted several times for PR to become a state. We’ve been a territory for over 100yrs, fought in all major American wars, and yet millions are disenfranchised from voting for the president!!! It’s a shame

    It’s ridiculous that congress doesn’t deem this an important issue so I would love to see Puerto Rico to become a state or even their own nation. 🇵🇷

      Puerto Rico, maybe. But the others? No. Their populations are much too small. The least populous State presently is Wyoming which has just under 600,000 people. So, unless you were to increase the total members of the House from 435 to 2 thousand+, I would not support the rest.

    • @theyoungcentrist9110

      @@jstrahan2 I support doubling the size of the House of Representatives because 435 is too small to represent a country of 345,426,571. So I support uncapping the house.
      Also, DC has a bigger population than Wyoming & Vermont.

      @@theyoungcentrist9110 : True, but DC came from Maryland. Constitutionally, it can't become a State until the Maryland legislature approves. Then Congress can vote on it. I do not support DC Statehood. I do support retrocession back to Maryland. Virginia recovered its DC portion this way. Also, even doubling would not be enough to get those other territories Statehood. You would have to at least quadruple the size of the House. That would be enough for Guam. For the others (besides PR), you would need a House of 4-5 thousand. I don't believe a 2000 member House of Representatives is feasible, let alone 5,000. Until the House number is changed, I believe a 500,000 population is the minimum.

    • @theyoungcentrist9110
      @theyoungcentrist9110 17 годин тому

      @@jstrahan2The thing is DC residents doesn’t retrocession and Maryland has no interest annexing DC land with 57% of Marylands opposed to the idea of retrocession & 51% of them support DC statehood. The only alternative now is admitting DC as a state as DC doesn’t want to be apart Maryland and Maryland neither wants them. 5000 representative is not feasible right now and would be fine with increasing it to 793 or 931 representatives with them also elected from multi-member district through a proportional representation system. I think we can add Guam, Northern Mariana Island, Virgin Island and American Samoa as states because we can still give them at least 1 Representative & 2 Senators as it is spelled out in the constitution.

    I would not as American citizen want them to have free association. That's pretty much just giving them their cake and then them eat it too. The only Free Association States are tiny and we don't mind it but we are not giving millions of people Free Association status. Either independent or be a state nothing else.

    No taxation without representation. Statehood for Puerto Rico, Pacific Islands, and Washington D.C. No one the Government calls American should go without representation in the Senate and Congress. To do so goes against our very founding principles, because the American colonies were taxed without representation in a British parliament. The Federal Government cannot continue to make decisions about these places and people without input from the people that live there. If the people of these places don't want to, so be it. But to not at least offer, that would be un-American.
