Legend has it that at the dawn of time, Cretan sailors, busy fishing in the Phocis Sea, were surprised by a silver dolphin of supernatural beauty, who invited them to follow him. Apollo would have taken the features of this animal to attract them to the site where he charged them with building his sanctuary. Clinging to the slopes of Mount Parnassus, it still dominates the valley populated by thousands of olive trees which, in Hellenistic times, were considered sacred.
