There are three entities in creation that are unborn and eternal-the ever-changing material nature, the unchangeable souls, and the Master of both, who is the Supreme Lord. Both Maya and soul are the eternal energies of God. Ignorance of these entities is the cause of bondage of the soul, while knowledge of them helps it cut asunder the fetters of Maya.
I exist, and to know that you exist you have to be conscious that you exist, it is this knowing that you " be " or " am " that is the self. What is it related too? Krishna says in the gita: " the living entities in this conditioned world are my eternal fragmental parts." so the self is a finite sampling of God.
