This video explains why im going to sell my Chanel handbag. I know some people might not understand why but I wanted to be brave and share with you my truth in this circumstance anyway. I hope you understand :)

Hey lovelies, I wanted to say thank you - thank you for showing me that we are a community here and we are like minded. It feels special to be able to connect with people who feel the same way about shopping that I now do and I appreciate that. I want to make more videos about mindful shopping, is that something you want to see?
Would love to see this Eva. Since seeing this video it's really hit me about bags I love and have that never use! I've gone down to a collection of (don't ask!!!) To a collection of 8! I don't want to sell my YSL bags at present as would loose to much and I do find them robust etc! But seriously thinking of selling some other bags Chanel etc as I never use them and when I do it's a nightmare as they are so fragile (it's pink lambskin!) And of day bags can be picked up again! Think I would rather have the ££££ in my savings and have a cheaper bag that I don't worry about!! I go through these cycles all the time but feeling I'm getting closer and closer to being sick of the cost of these items and just not worth it! Anyway really finding these videos so refreshing!! I'm considering coming off UA-cam also as sick of viewing rediculous priced hauls etc all the time so a new fresh approach would be great for people like me that are wanting to see something fresh and more attainable. All for high end perfume skincare etc as it to me is totally different as I get enjoyment from it. But with bags it's almost like I'm always looking at my next bag! And I just want to stop that thought process...

I've been feeling the same way. I bought 23 handbags last year so I had to cull my collection this year and put myself on a "no buy". It's been amazing, I've been on so many trips and have focussed on me internally rather than externally. This has allowed me to have amazing growth and happiness that I have never felt before. I am in America and paid off my school loans at 33 and i have a credit card bill of 3,000 other than that no debt ..I really want to get a Chanel jumbo these price increases lol and I have a 500$ at Chanel so i figure i use it toward that to save on the sticker price..i have two months to use this credit decisions/decisions...i have been contributing to retirement so I am thinking ahead but I love fashion also but we have to be fiscally responsible
We're on the same mission. This year I have saved so much and injected that into my pension and future. My future comfort is paramount. I'm preparing for my non working years. I want to be able enjoy my life with my Grand Babies (when I get them). I enjoy accomplishing each phase of my retirement plans even though it's decades away. Time flys, so the priority is future comfort.

I think this is so important. Because of social media the urge to buy or “keep up” has been pervasive. So many people don’t talk about fiscal responsibility. Good for you!
Good for you, Eva! A LOT of lux viewers on YT need to see this. The hauls, the overbuying, the compulsiveness, and addiction to buy has gotten RIDICULOUS and bloggers 100% contribute to it. So, well done you for having the balls to talk about it.
SF Jayhawk I agree. I worry about young people aspiring to the ridiculous hauls they see on some of the channels , not realising these people get some things free and may be returning others or building up debt . The rank consumerism these days terrifies me . I was 56 before I paid more than £40 for a handbag and an now selling as they don't bring happiness and are just 'things' we have to worry about . I'm so glad my children have turned out thrifty and are not obsessed with designer anything .

@@Laura-zc7ns I totally agree that some vloggers do encourage massive consumerism but thankfully not all. I had to unsubscribe to lots of them as it sickened me to see the lavish gifts + holidays these ppl were showered with from big brands. I am not talking about small youtubers trying to make a decent living. It is a massive debt trap for ppl who try to aspire to this way of life. I now really enjoy minimalist youtubers + their ethics. I am not quite there yet but very mindfull of mindless spending!

Eva omg I did the same thing and am now debt free, nothing feels better I promise you. I must say that I was in "real debt" around 10K. I was the girl walking around with a Louis Vuitton bag with the matching accessories and a fiver in my purse (on a good day) 🙈. I sold EVERYTHING! Then offered a full & final on what I owed (if you know that phase you know how deep in debt I was) I now have 2 designer bags and a few shoes but most of all I'm free and so happy. Do what works for you xx

Thanks for being open and honest Eva. It’s easy for us to look at other people’s belongings and be jealous but most of the time we only know part of the story. It’s not fair to ourselves to compare our whole situation to part of theirs.

Sell the Loewe while it's still popular. The Chanel is a better investment to hold on to...
From the sounds of the video, Eva hasn't done any type of balance transfer to a low APR credit card or a LOC. Many credit cards have an APR of 20%. Have Chanel bags historically increased in value 20% per year? Is it a safe bet to assume they will increase 20% in value per year for the foreseeable future?
Chanel bags may be a good investment in terms of a luxury item that you can use and resell in the future. However, if having a Chanel bag is preventing you from paying off debt and saving for the future, I don't think it's a good decision to hold onto it.
I highly recommend checking out the subreddit r/personalfinance. You may not agree with all the suggestions, however I think it's inspiring to see what lifestyle changes others have made to get in control of their finances.
fsori9 she loves the Loewe though - and will get more money back from the Chanel . The Loewe wouldn't clear her debt which is the whole point .
Truly admire your honesty Eva! Even if your reason is different for selling the bag still you are and should be in control of your life.

I'm glad you're talking about financial responsibility in this community. I'm glad you are getting your credit cards paid off fully! As you said, it makes most sense to pay off the high interest credit card debt before purchasing things. Good luck!!!
I stepped away from luxury a few years back for the same reason. I managed to pay-off and learned to invest. I’ve now re-entered luxury shopping. I have to say, it’s a different feeling when you have a good nest and you shop, not using your nest. Best of luck, as I was already in my thirties when I regrouped, you’re at a great age to start over.
I really appreciate this video Eva, UA-cam is now full of influencers pushing fast fashion and products that’s we don’t need. It’s refreshing to hear someone say they’re handling their finances and spending money on experiences and things when they can really afford it. I recently graduated from uni after having a change of heart on my career and my designer handbag addiction I had before I started uni actually got me through uni without needing such a big loan. We enjoyed the bags whilst we had them and then sold them on to pursue bigger and better things :)

Great topic to cover! You've inspired me a lot since you downsized your collection and I've also sold things I didn't feel love for anymore. Since then I did use those funds though to fund something I am getting more use of. Credit cards and after pay are so dangerous, and I'm glad that I don't have any debt any more. Now I'm at a point to start saving to the future and it feels great. Very hard though these days to not get carried away by the next pretty thing... A daily struggle! I'm currently trying to cut down on time on social media to not get inspired that much and just enjoy the things that I have. Thanks for your honesty Eva x
I would stop shopping luxury items and sell all of bags immediately. You can reenter the luxury world when you have your house paid off and you have no debt at all. Luxury is really for people who would buy an expensive Chanel bag without any impact to their daily lives. They charge the bag to their credit cards only for convenience. They have at least 10 times or more cash in their banks and they have many investments to sustain their life style.

I am following quite a few UA-cam accounts, but yours is the only one, where the content evolves naturally and in touch with the current thoughts regarding minimalism, debt control etc.... you keep me interested even though I first join because of the luxury videos.... after reading minimalists essays I am on the same path and even though I enjoy luxury I reduced my collection to only few pieces that I really love and use the money to pay of most of my debts :) I enjoy the feeling very much! I have to say that watching your channel from start to now has been the most enjoyable. Although i have not always agreed with your choices, seeing the journey, transition and growth is amazing and every video seems like a revelation and has become more inspiring (especially recently) Whilst other channels are almost saying buy! buy! buy! you are wearing the same loved clothing and thinking about money management.
If you didn't do shopping again i would still watch your channel as i find the travelling and growth more inspiration than the purchases.

Great topic. I’m in my late 40s now and am able to splurge on more luxuries than when I was younger. But somehow I still manage to spend too much and have to stop myself and reprioritize my wants/needs. I think it’s great that you’re self correcting and the there’s nothing that feels better than financial independence. And when you’re ready to purchase that M size, it will be that much sweeter. BRAVO! More people need to take heed of this lesson on managing finances. My husband says before one purchases a luxury item think and calculate how many hours one had to work to pay for the item. I began doing this. Thinking of my annual salary, doing the calculation and then at times putting the item back. So happy for you!
Eva! So glad to hear this. I sold my Chanel recently, and I enjoyed using it whilst I had it. I don't even think about it. I had already bought a couple of second hand Balenciaga handbags and I love them (they are way cheaper of course). So I still have other designer handbags, and they serve the purpose just as well!

I've been saving up for a chanel classic bag. I have the amount now, however, today, I have no heart to buy that bag, too overpriced for my life style. I keep on saving 30% of my salary every month. But it will be for my old days and for emergency needs (who knows)

Don’t shop Chanel or any of the luxury brands. I am recently getting into coach and I love my new coach bag. It’s durable and it costed me $100! Save your hard earned money and sit on it. Ut definitely feels better than a Chanel I’m my closet
I was surprised when I read this title but after watching your video I have to say BRAVO Eva! This is a very mature reason to sell. I’m older then you and have had struggles with credit cards and overspending in my 20’s. I had a lot of fun but looking back, I was dumb and frivolous. I wished I knew more about finances before I got my first credit card and got way over my head. I buckled down and consolidated all cards to 2 and put whatever money I had left after necessary expenses toward my credit cards. It was a very un-fun couple of years but paying off the last payment makes it all worth it. Good luck my girl!!

Myself a former payday 'spendaholic', your comment on the joy a certain piece brings and the 'have to have it' mentality totally resonated with me. I made the conscious decision to embrace a more simple and minimalist life over a year ago and have turned my back on material things in favour of experiences. Yes Eva! What a brilliant video! In this world of Instagrammers and influencers who seem to buy a new bag every week, it’s so refreshing to hear this. I don’t own a Chanel piece but I stupidly purchased a Prada Galleria tote that I’m just too scared to use because I know that I won’t ever be able to spend that amount of money on a bag again. Instead, everyday I use a Charles & Keith bag because I know I don’t have to worry about it. It just seems so ridiculous! I feel like I brought the bag to almost ‘keep up with the Jones’s’.
I didn’t buy the Prada on credit or anything but it’s just not my lifestyle to be able to use such a luxury piece everyday. Even more stupid is that Prada has a terrible re-sale value so it’s just stuck in its packaging on top of my wardrobe 🤣.
I’m done feeling envious of all the Gucci belts/ marmonts/neverfulls and I’m trying to live a less ‘materialistic’ life xxx

I have wanted the reissue 226 for 3 years. I am almost 40 years older than you and have never had a luxury bag nor luxury anything. I am on a fixed income. When I can save, it has to be for a piece of furniture (need sofa and bookshelves!) and to tell the truth, if I could travel now, I'd rather have that experience than a bag. I do think it is good for you to do what feels freeing and right. If it was the medium I might be tempted to ask you to sell it, even after all I've said ;-). The truth is also that Chanel's quality is not keeping up with the increases lately so it's hard to rationalize a purchase. Hope you get what you want every day of your life. xx

really enjoyed watching this video -- definitely one of my fav & would love to see u make a finance/budgeting series in the future -- I am currently debt free but that's mainly due to the fact that I live in a very inexpensive city. I've been to London & was shocked at how expensive everything is, so the fact that you're financially independent at such a young age (in London) means you're really good with money. I would love to learn some budgeting/tips & tricks when it comes to living in such an expensive city & how you've manage to live such a fulfilled life without breaking the bank. thanks :)
Thank you, I am certainly still learning but as I learn more I will be sure to share it too :) Im currently using a bank card called Monzo, its got an app for your phone that tracks your spending and its really helped put my spending into perspective for me, would certainly recommend something like that xx
I think it's great and refreshing that you talk about this. It's important to stay mindful of ourselves, and to be independent and make choices without having to second-guess all the time is a very high good.
Eva, I commend you for talking about this. Way too much "keeping up with the Jones" going on now days. My husband & I worked for years to become debt free. It is so freeing & now we pay cash for most things. We still travel & enjoy life but now we do that stress free!! Good for you!

I love all of your videos but especially this one. I recently sold 6 of my bags so I could a) pay off some debt which was around £700 and b) put some money towards 1 bag that I really wanted. I'm thinking of selling even more of my bags because I feel like I just don't necessarily need them or are getting the wear out of them that I should. Your content has definitely driven me to think even more carefully about my wardrobe and my purchases, as I have previously owned so much for basically no reason. I'm still trying to cut down my possessions and replace a few knackered items with nicer quality items, but it is a process. I would like to do the same with a few of my items that I don't use, but I'm emotionally attached. Any advise on how to part with loved luxury items? Terrific plan, Eva. Selling your asset, and paying off your credit card is going to feel and be way more empowering than keeping the Chanel. Thankfully your debt wasn’t extravagant, but none the less, a cloud will be lifted. And that will feel amazing!!! So glad you shared this video with us.

I recently sold my entire collection about 12 bags total I think I hit a point in my life that I don’t need the status symbols and it felt great I purchased some nice contemporary bags and saved the rest great video and loved the honestly I also had called my spouse and told him I’m selling my bags all of them !!
What a fabulous video.... bags will come and go Eva, but the weight of debt never leaves if it’s allowed to take a hold. If you can have a fresh start do it . Don’t waste a moment of your 20’s and 30’s on not being able to do something because of money. As someone who works in travel and is now 47 travel as far as you can and as often as you can xxxx

... i have to say in the luxury channel community there seems to be people constantly buying new and selling older designer bags like a revolving door. I think it is to get new content material for their channel. One must lose money.
I am debt free and looking to finish my bag collection with a caviar diana and then thats done. I am saving up for this and trying to eat out less.

Very inspiring video. I really likes the way you phrased it, that all the money left after bills could be yours, instead of going towards credit card debt.
I sold a (vintage) Chanel bag earlier this year to pay off the last of my student debt. Felt good..and empowering. I realised that it was more important to me. Now I’m focusing on saving and selling stuff I don’t need. But I still buy a lot...changing ones habits takes time

Well done Eva! I have to say, I am doing exactly what you are doing now and it feels WONDERFUL! Better than any bag I have ever bought. The feeling of being debt free lasts longer than the "high" of buying a new bag or shoes, etc....I just let go my Lady Dior bag that I paid $5200 for:( Yes, I love that bag, but I love the idea of being debt free better. I also am selling a few other of my bags as well. I adore my LV bags, but I have to let a few go since I never have used them much. Congratulations on being responsible! It is SO freeing!

Hi Eva. I'm very proud of you not only for doing this but having the courage to share your story. In the times we're currently living in where so many things are bought/done for show, I often wonder how some people are affording all these luxury goods. I think a lot of people are using debt to finance luxury purchases which is probably not the best idea. I was "lucky" to see adults in my childhood struggle with finances so when I started working, my goal was to never owe anyone anything. In doing this, I was able to learn to always live within my means. I purchase luxury bags now but pay the card I used at the end of the month. I still use credit cards because of the rewards but always pay them off each month.

Sounds like a great decision Eva. We’re such a consumers society and many bloggers seem to encourage this by constantly buying new bags, clothes etc. It’s always wise to live within one’s means. I’ve been thinking long and hard about whether I should buy my own Reissue or not and the jury is still out.

The whole 'I SPENT £5000 IN ONE DAY' youtube videos don't sit well with me, and I'm not sure what the aim is. Thank you for being a voice of reason in an increasingly materialistic medium. And, no you're not perfect, no one is, but you're conscious and you're trying, and that's the main thing x
Eva, wonderful conversation and I applaud you for doing this video! I think we all fall in the trap of spending too much and I know that I am still there. I am also trying to get out of debt. I no longer own any credit cards and I pay for everything with cash. I read somewhere that if you are making a purchase (example: an Chanel wallet) and are not able to pay for 3 of whatever that item is, then you can't afford to purchase it. Now whenever I purchase anything, I think of that advice. I cannot tell you how many things I have put back and it has helped immensely. I would love to share my story privately with you on IG. :-)

I've never had debt, but that's because I've been able to lean on my parents pretty heavily. I've had almost no income for nearly a year now and it's hard for me to remember not to spend on little things, because those little things add up. An "I've earned it" here and a "it's super cheap" there and I'll blow through my savings pretty fast. I'm making myself sound a lot more responsible than I am, although I did recently decide to sell a designer wallet I loved but never used, and I'm proud of myself for that.
Wonderful and relevant video! Following and controlling your finances can be alot of fun, even smaller amounts. It leads you towards indepence, again, even the very small numbers can have an impact. I love all the comments here.
Well done Eva! Having that financial freedom feels so liberating. I think when I was around your age, is when I also started having similar thoughts. The reissue will be there whenever you’re ready, if you still want it. Do whatever is right for you.
Every year I have set goals:
2014 - I purchased my car with cash, no debt! Yay.
2015 - my wife and I saved and bought a house
2016 - we told ourselves we needed to save $10,000 and did it in one year. Rainy day funds! Especially since we have a house now. Sorry to through actually numbers out there, but I feel comfortable telling you lol.
2017 - be selfish and enjoy our money
2018 - Travel
Next year, we are back to saving and paying off all the debt we have accumulated. Maybe remodeling our home. Good luck on your path to being debt free.
Love the honest video! I currently only owe on my car. I paid off credit card years ago and now only keep it for emergencies (car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, etc) or paying for flights, hotels, etc and even then I pay in full when I get the bill. I make sure to never spend more then what I have in the bank. A budget is wonderful thing. I allocate all my necessary funds (rent, internet, car payment, insurance, groceries, etc). I then put a specific amount into savings/retirement. The rest is my 'fun' fund used for traveling, purchasing luxury, going out to eat, movies, etc. If I don't have any 'fun' fund, then I don't do these things. I would suggest having more then one savings account. Have one for emergencies (loose job, etc) that you will not touch except for emergencies. And then have a separate account for 'fun' fund. Having the separate accounts is also a very good way to help track what you are spending and where you are spending it.
Great decision! You will feel so much better selling it. Its never a good idea to buy consumer goods on credit. It’s interesting seeing people from different places and how things works. I’m from Scandinavia and I don’t think people are having credit card bills to pay off, since the interest rate on the cards are ridiculously high. On the other hand most people have a mortgage as there aren’t basically any places to rent where I live.
Thank you Eva, I completely agree I think people have been sucked into the whole blogger/ UA-cam excessively living lifestyle. We are made to feel the need to “keep up”. It’s ridiculously out of control. I keep out of debt buy within my means.

I think it's great that you're speaking on this! I recently started grad school, in my 30s, and it's the first big (massive actually!, thanks US loan system) debt I've taken on. It's been difficult for me to live more mindfully with my budget this year. I think our generation is terrible at saving money for the long term so I'm trying to do better with that also. I often let myself make unwise purchases because I figure, well everyone else is doing it so what's the big deal. This video is a nice reminder to stick to my financial plans and that I'm not alone too.

It’s never too late to start having savings. Sell it. It’s definitely worth it and coming to terms with priorities. Luxury bags are really a bonus if you have savings. I don’t think ppl should compromise savings for fashion. Not to mention debt. You can do it girl! Proud of you ❤️
You are very wise. I think it is a great plan You will feel so free when that bill is paid off. I was much older when I became debt free. I wish I would have been at your age. But everything I own and buy is mine now and is a great feeling.

Thank you for this video Eva. We live in a world were we're always thinking about spending and acquiring, but alot less about the responsibilities that come with that. (And making good financial choices is a learning curve in your 20s for sure!) I've recently decided myself to sell some of my luxury handbags to boost my savings. Nothing beats having peace of mind about your finances at the end of the day.

I put all my online purchases on my CC for safety reasons but I pay it off as soon as it has hits my card. If I dont have the money in my debit account then I dont purchase anything. I've always been brought up to pay your bills, save some then the rest is your own to play with. I can see why you are doing it, its a wise thing to do and having full control over your finances with give you an amazing feeling im sure. x

Its always worked for me, my only "debt" is my mortgage which we pay off every month and hope to up one day so we can get it paid off quicker. xx
