  • The Game Boy Advance was a very strong 32 bit hand held system that gave us some great games. Nintendo released the GBA after taking over the handheld market at the beginning of the 21st century.
Let's take apart the Game Boy Advance and see what made this handheld function.

Who remembers being young, hearing this was 32-bit, and thought it was going to be a minature PS1?
    Still loved it.
Will you do other handhelds? PSP series, DS series, other Gameboys, Sega Gamegears, the like...?

What would you think about a Golden Sun reboot? I feel that they could do a modern re-imagining of the first two games that could potentially look amazing, Just think about the Ragnarok animation on the switch's hardware. I feel it would help to better push the Switch than having Camelot produce 5 Mario Tennis games.

it's funny that it uses ARM and plenty of people used to make games for it. The Switch should be OK considering and programming for it should be easy with the advanced help Nvidia is giving developers nowadays for it.

Hated the Advance. The Advance SP on the other hand was my jam. Once it fell down from the stairwell and it didn't even have a scratch.. damn. Pokemon Leafgreen was played 24/7, just like Rayman and Mario tennis.

A system I actually had to take apart for a valid reason besides curiosity: Because grime had found its way under the D-Pad and prevented games from controlling properly. Had to clean it up.
EDIT: The battery door broke on mine, maybe yours did too? I still have mine but the plastic bit that keeps it on had a tendency to break easily over time as I recall. So it's not surprising if yours is not on it anymore either.

  • @BossInvader1

My Indigo Blue Advance had a rechargeable battery that you could also use plugged in with the huge power block. The Battery was also the door as a one piece item. These were really awesome. Mine had eventually broke and they came out with the Advance SP which was stupidly small for my hands and they cramped so I just skipped it completely.

You recommend the SP because it doesn't need AA batteries, but what's wrong with that? AA batteries are way, far way more standard than the lithium batteries which are all specific to their own device and nothing else. In 30 years, good luck replacing your gba sp battery, while AA batteries will probably still be made and sold new. Seriously, what's wrong with AA batteries?

My favorite was the DS. Touch controls, Online enabled portable, backwards compatible, clamshell design. Using the commercials of the time was a neat touch as well.

I loved the fact that the SP version had the lit screen, but it was so uncomfortable in the hands...that's why people mod the original Advance. As for myself, I have the original, but when I want to play the games, I use my GameCube with the GBA player on it!

the GBA was one of the systems that introduced me into gaming. that, and the GameCube. LoZ: Minish Cap still remains as one of my favorite games.
