I had 5 video tabs open and I moved this one to the front of the line! ^_^. Adding the history behind the system was a brilliant idea! Please keep doing that =D
I wonder why the hell I am watching this lol. I already opened up mine to change the skin. and aside from problems with the L & R buttons it was a breeze to open & close
Hey thanks! Something I used to watch all the time was Icons on G4. I miss that show a lot so I wanted to do a little documentary work in the beginning of Tech Wave!
Who remembers being young, hearing this was 32-bit, and thought it was going to be a minature PS1? Still loved it. Will you do other handhelds? PSP series, DS series, other Gameboys, Sega Gamegears, the like...?
I'm liking this format with background info and facts throughout. Great video man! My little kiddie heart almost burst when I heard that startup sound as well. This was the first console I ever played when I was 3 - got me completely hooked on gaming for life :)
my nephew who died from a staff infection3 years ago had a gba with 30+ games that he kept in his closet and my sis gave to me i recently started playing the games and am playing warioware inc atm. i will have to say that the games he had most are among the most influential and highest rated games on the gba he had very good taste i will play and finish them all
these tech wave eps are awesome and can only get better. I would love it if you could explain the gpu/cpu of these systems a little more simply, perhaps by comparing them to modern systems(or older ones in which ever case) or put up little factoids that make you think and appreciate the power behind the console a little more
My favorite was the DS. Touch controls, Online enabled portable, backwards compatible, clamshell design. I prefer your introductions of the system before taking apart because it gives me a sense its impact outside of nostalgia and is very high quality. Using the commercials of the time was a neat touch as well.
I remember buying that exact game boy with some money from my second job ever before I was about to go off to college for the first time. Ahh, memories...
These "take apart" vids are great. I was going to take apart my old psp today in order to replace the screen, but turns out you need a philips screwdriver with a small head (ph#00), which I do not own. Silly me. Now I need to buy one.
My Indigo Blue Advance had a rechargeable battery that you could also use plugged in with the huge power block. The Battery was also the door as a one piece item. These were really awesome. Mine had eventually broke and they came out with the Advance SP which was stupidly small for my hands and they cramped so I just skipped it completely.
I like the original more because it's bigger but i like the gba sp ags 101 for development because i have a case for it that the system (with my flash cartridge inside it), my sdhc reader, my headphones adapter, and a USB otg cable (and a USB charger) fit and i can charge it off my phones USB port and 2500mah battery
I'm sorry good sir, but if you aren't part of the Nintendo Fanboy cult, you're the enemy. P.S. I like your videos. I watched "Nintendo criticism means you're hating" and couldn't agree more! But I am a fanboy ;)
What would you think about a Golden Sun reboot? I feel that they could do a modern re-imagining of the first two games that could potentially look amazing, Just think about the Ragnarok animation on the switch's hardware. I feel it would help to better push the Switch than having Camelot produce 5 Mario Tennis games.
man i love the GBA. Probably my fav. Handheld of all time. If Nintendo releases a 3DS succesor i would totally dig it if they revive the Gameboy line. Its so much better than "DS" imo
A system I actually had to take apart for a valid reason besides curiosity: Because grime had found its way under the D-Pad and prevented games from controlling properly. Had to clean it up. EDIT: The battery door broke on mine, maybe yours did too? I still have mine but the plastic bit that keeps it on had a tendency to break easily over time as I recall. So it's not surprising if yours is not on it anymore either.
I loved the fact that the SP version had the lit screen, but it was so uncomfortable in the hands...that's why people mod the original Advance. As for myself, I have the original, but when I want to play the games, I use my GameCube with the GBA player on it!
so I watched this and enjoyed the methodical look at what's inside a gba. I went to watch pat the new punk and he was talking about the "what's inside channel" which took a saw and sledge hammer to an old pac man arcade cabinet and I thought wtf is going on in the world that's not learning correctly, tech wave is.
The only history class that I enjoyed!!... My parents used to forbid me to go outside when I was a kid (just Filipino things) and this is my only companion during lonely times..
i completely missed the GBA and went from gameboy/colour to DS but looking at the games when i got them on virtual console it had a real game library from what i have played on VC.
Nice video! Loved seeing the inside but I'm always too scared I won't be able to put it back so I don't do it myself haha. If I may, maybe it would be possible to get more light where you do your take apart? Was kind of dim to me.
It truly was a great handheld... yet for some reason, I recall playin this one the least, compared to the original Game Boy or the DS, and 3DS... I don't really know why
it's funny that it uses ARM and plenty of people used to make games for it. The Switch should be OK considering and programming for it should be easy with the advanced help Nvidia is giving developers nowadays for it.
Hated the Advance. The Advance SP on the other hand was my jam. Once it fell down from the stairwell and it didn't even have a scratch.. damn. Pokemon Leafgreen was played 24/7, just like Rayman and Mario tennis. Times man, Times.
So since the screen is dead on my GBASP+ I'm going to learn how to refurbish it myself with a new screen and shell. Worse I can do is break it even more! >.>
i used to have one. i think i had the transparent variant. although i ended up selling it. now i wish i had kept the damn thing. also, i prefer the original game boy advance because it's far more comfortable to hold. sure the sp has the light for the screen but i find it very uncomfortable to hold. all in all though, it was pretty good. i'm considering buying another one.
ii opened mine to mod it to play on tv. it worked ok. played on tv and on the go. but 2 years later gba for the gcn display on tv came out. that was my last mod lol.
One of the greatest handhelds of all time. Great video Spawn Wave!
FILIP Wow, hey dude! Love your channel! You and Spawn Wave are my favorite Switch UA-camrs!
Make sure you are subscribed so you don't miss out on the Switch Tech Wave!
This is a great episode. I'm really excited for the Switch Tech Wave.
I had 5 video tabs open and I moved this one to the front of the line! ^_^. Adding the history behind the system was a brilliant idea! Please keep doing that =D

after this i unsubscribe. just kidding
Spawn Wave do you have every type of screw driver?🤔
This was really well done, felt like a documentary :0 good job keep it up :)
Hey thanks! Something I used to watch all the time was Icons on G4. I miss that show a lot so I wanted to do a little documentary work in the beginning of Tech Wave!

Still loved it.
Will you do other handhelds? PSP series, DS series, other Gameboys, Sega Gamegears, the like...?
GBA has many fantastic games that are still great today!
Wow I love this. It came to the point where I'm always waiting for an upload. Nice work!
by far the best and most informal tech wave yet keep it up.
GBA was awesome! Golden Sun was probably my favorite GBA game. The GBA SP NES Edition I still have that with a G6 Lite flashcart.
I'm liking this format with background info and facts throughout. Great video man!
My little kiddie heart almost burst when I heard that startup sound as well. This was the first console I ever played when I was 3 - got me completely hooked on gaming for life :)
I like how your editing has improved, keep up the great work!

That nostalgic start up noise 😊
WOW! The production value is through the roof! Best video yet! Keep up the great work! : )
i love how you go more in depth with tech wave now!
Spawn!! This is amazing!! Great work. Love it
My absolute favorite. I love working and modding these.
I utterly loved the format! Keep it up.
this channel is getting better aaaannd better :)
Stay on track Spawny
Love that format of video with the history at the beginning. Even more instructive !
Awesome, gotta love these Tech Wave videos!
GBA was a great system. I've got the original plus both versions of the SP (front light / back light).
gyroninja The SP was amazing. The back light and rechargability made all the difference!
please always bring tech waves. Loved every single one 'till now hahaha
Really cool introductory segment. The GBA was great.
Wow.. that's your best video so far John :D I'm proud to have been subscribed to you for a while. :D
Congrats on 20K Subs!
WOAH,TECHNOLOGY!
Your videos are very high quality! I hope you get more buzz in the future.
My favorite Channel ;)This amigo is the shit :D Spawn Wave Master Race!
Man you know your stuff, i subbed nice video

Game Boy Advance was my first handheld, and I still love it
I loved my Gameboy Advance. I spent so many hours of my childhood playing Wario Land 2 being my first handheld.
very informative and entertaining, hope you blow up like Linustechtips one day, id love to see you hammer with his budget
I'll always love the GBA, it's my favorite handheld.
I remember buying that exact game boy with some money from my second job ever before I was about to go off to college for the first time. Ahh, memories...
Thank you so much for this video👍👌✌
Great Vid Jon!!!!
I love that bg music from the timelapse
These "take apart" vids are great. I was going to take apart my old psp today in order to replace the screen, but turns out you need a philips screwdriver with a small head (ph#00), which I do not own. Silly me. Now I need to buy one.
Love the video! Might be worth wiping down before filming though, pretty dirty.
really really enjoying these videos. what will you be taking apart after you've caught up to the current systems?
Back when I bought the GBA I had a strange feeling. The feeling is now back with the Switch. It has to be great
thanks for another great video
You could have at least cleaned the GBA before its closeup.
Nah, that's straight up character right there :D
@@SpawnWave no is a word you idiot.
dog person good one 3 years later

Mine had eventually broke and they came out with the Advance SP which was stupidly small for my hands and they cramped so I just skipped it completely.
The Gameboy Advance is one of the reasons I want to have a Switch. The shape and the orientation of the Switch reminds me of the GBA.
I love the GBA. Although, I prefer the clamshell design of the GBA SP
I'm not a big fan of Nintendo's new ways of doing things, but I enjoy your content, subscribed. keep up the good work 👍
objdadon You're not welcome here....
Jk man I also love when people open up old systems.
VG_Biken i don't need an invitation buddy, i do and go where i want😎
I'm sorry good sir, but if you aren't part of the Nintendo Fanboy cult, you're the enemy.
P.S. I like your videos. I watched "Nintendo criticism means you're hating" and couldn't agree more! But I am a fanboy ;)
VG_Biken lmfao 😂 you had me, i thought i recognized your name lol.
objdadon What don't you like about Nintendo?
What would you think about a Golden Sun reboot? I feel that they could do a modern re-imagining of the first two games that could potentially look amazing, Just think about the Ragnarok animation on the switch's hardware. I feel it would help to better push the Switch than having Camelot produce 5 Mario Tennis games.
But did you know rechargeable battery packs for Wii remotes, fit into the GBA?
Is that fact?
Great video!
man i love the GBA. Probably my fav. Handheld of all time. If Nintendo releases a 3DS succesor i would totally dig it if they revive the Gameboy line. Its so much better than "DS" imo

Two random batteries of different brands. Authenticity 100% right here bois
Very good voice over
i completely missed the GBA and went from gameboy/colour to DS but looking at the games when i got them on virtual console it had a real game library from what i have played on VC.
When is "Taking Apart The Game Boy Advance With A Hammer" coming?
he didn't play them because of reviews he owned a bunch of them and kept the best. a true gamer
A group of friends and I used to avoid actual PE by linking our GBAs and just walking around the track.
Nice video! Loved seeing the inside but I'm always too scared I won't be able to put it back so I don't do it myself haha.
If I may, maybe it would be possible to get more light where you do your take apart? Was kind of dim to me.
For some reason your theme song really reminds of Paper Mario Thousand Year Door Rougeport Underground theme.
Aaah the nostalgia
This makes disassembling the PS4 Pro look easy.
You should do more taking aparts :D
1:42 Interesting, that's the same for the Sega Genesis and the chip inside for the MasterSystem games :)
I was convinced a hammer would smash that after that little opening
I can't wait for the switch tear down ;D
Are you doing it March 3 or later?
2:51
Ha! I had the sp model.
*rechargeable*
I loved my li'l Glacier GBA.
I remember when me and my sister would duke it out on Pokémon on our gameboys. Too bad I was with the original while she had the SP...
Solidified Vomit
I actually prefer the original to the SP.
I'd suggest getting a DS Lite, that way you can play DS games too. I'd only recommend the GBA if you're wanting to play OG GB and GBC games
next time clean the screen spawn! xD really nice episode
a ps vita taken apart would be cool to see
It truly was a great handheld... yet for some reason, I recall playin this one the least, compared to the original Game Boy or the DS, and 3DS... I don't really know why
I hv two of them both with no battery door, haha. Those things always went missing as a kid.
it's funny that it uses ARM and plenty of people used to make games for it. The Switch should be OK considering and programming for it should be easy with the advanced help Nvidia is giving developers nowadays for it.
You didn't mention the switch in the cartridge slot that causes it to switch over to the Z80.
Never had one but really lts look very
interesting and look even better than 3ds and ds it's look very simple and easer to use
Hi Spawnwave :)
I had no idea that was a gameboy advance. Apparently the only one I'd ever seen/had was the Advance SP.
Anyone who still has their battery cover isn't a true 90s kid...
I still have my Game Boy SP with me...
but sadly, I lost my original Game Boy.:(
I wonder how the inside of the GBA SP looks.
Hated the Advance. The Advance SP on the other hand was my jam. Once it fell down from the stairwell and it didn't even have a scratch.. damn. Pokemon Leafgreen was played 24/7, just like Rayman and Mario tennis.
Times man, Times.
you can buy a screen with backlight to use in it
It would have been awesome if the screen was put back in upside down at the end of the video
So since the screen is dead on my GBASP+ I'm going to learn how to refurbish it myself with a new screen and shell. Worse I can do is break it even more! >.>
Nintendo is here again to show how they renovate the way we play
The thing I remember the most about the GBA are those horrible lights that would hang over the screen and not help at all!!!!🐒
I think it'd be cool to see a 3DS and a New 3DS taken apart side by side to see the differences.
That aside, I loved the informative intro you did. Keep it up!
I wanted this Indigo one to color match my Indigo GameCube but they sold out of the color, so I ended up getting a Glacier one.
The definitive method of playing GBA games is still the DS lite. Will you take one of these apart too? This device was MY childhood. ^^
@ SpawnWave I'm gonna feel stupid asking this question but what is that theme song you play in the beginning and also while disassembling????
i used to have one. i think i had the transparent variant. although i ended up selling it. now i wish i had kept the damn thing. also, i prefer the original game boy advance because it's far more comfortable to hold. sure the sp has the light for the screen but i find it very uncomfortable to hold. all in all though, it was pretty good. i'm considering buying another one.
ii opened mine to mod it to play on tv. it worked ok. played on tv and on the go. but 2 years later gba for the gcn display on tv came out. that was my last mod lol.
have you done a tech wave on the new 3ds xl?
