Had mine for over 250000 miles as a totally abused extra long based builders truck . It was seized kingpins that ruined the front axle what killed it as all second hand ones were as bad and vw wanted near 2k for one . The engine lived on in a fishing boat I think. I had a new head gasket at about 120000 miles when limping to a garage with a burst hose . They are very prone to damage with low water with that angle lean and low water header tank. Best engine for its low power ever.
I really really want an old LT. Love the design but mainly the engine sound. So much so that my daily driver is a Volvo 940 with a D24tic engine. Wish I could have an LT van too!
I loved the sound of 740's/940's with the VW D24tic engine when i was young. I used to see loads of them back then and was so reliable. It can easily be tuned as well.
@@jaggass I'd heard that their reliability was questionable, with snapping camshafts and suchlike but I never had a moment's mechanical trouble with my D24TIC in all of the miles I drove it.
@@superbracey No 2 engines are the same anyway. When i had an Audi A3 2.0 TDI with the BKD engine everyone said 'oh your cyl head's gonna crack because they all do it'' It didn't. I never had a single problem with the engine at all.
