Don't know if it's the same on PC, but on Xbox the fortify on the thimble is broken and whenever you use it, it makes your shell invulnerable until you die, even if you switch shells, interact with the environment. Doesn't matter. You can hammer your shell, take damage, but as long as you don't die your shell is forever immortal. Shell break attacks don't work but grabs will still wreck you
