- Flying drummer performance from the Prestonwood Gift of Christmas 2022. There were 14 total performances between 2-11 December 2022.

For the last four years, Prestonwood Baptist Church hired me, along with several other percussionists, as one of many drummers to perform the role of “Flying Drummer Boy” in their annual Gift of Christmas show.
Our segment starts Act 2 with the drummers positioned in one of five solo stations. After we perform the solos, we transition to specific stations around the sanctuary where the snare players are secured to rigging that lifts us in automated patterns for the remainder of our performance.
I recently purchased a 360 camera and wanted to see how it would look when attached to my drum. As you can see, this shot provides a unique perspective of the Gift of Christmas show from in the air. Performing this show is a highlight of my year because I am afforded a fun, new, and positive opportunity to play the drum in a unique situation. All views on this are my own.

I'd ask for my tithe money back...
They sell tickets and that’s what pays for the production. There’s nothing stopping anyone there from designating their church offering to go to a certain cause or ministry in the church. This event leads people to Christ and saves them from hell. Spreading the Message of Christ comes in many different forms. Different people respond differently to the ways things are presented. If you knocked on someone’s door and presented the Gospel to them, they may not be “moved” by your presentation, but if they attended this, would be led to Christ. What’s the price of a soul worth? If you could use thousands of someone else’s dollars to save a loved one from hell, wouldn’t you be for that? If just ONE person is saved from hell, it’s worth the thousands of volunteer hours, money spent and time given.
I am glad to know that they sell tickets to offset the costs.
However, I am bit Leary of churches like this that have over the top Christmas plays and presentations. I know you said that it gets people in the seats, but I can’t help but wonder if we are drawing them to Christ or something else. Bring a true follower of Jesus is not going to be sunshine and lollipops, it is going to take sacrifice and denial and loss and hard times. We don’t portray that by singing “it’s a marshmallow world”. On a big stage surrounded by Snowman costumes.
I actually know someone who attended Prestonwood while they lived in TX for about 5 years so I have seen footage of this play from past years.
They shouldn't be asking for a tithe, that's old testament. It's different if you just want to give but not tithe.
The minute I was in that church and that started I would have left faster than the biblical truth did
@@wesleym.2962 You shouldn't be buying your way into church. Jesus flipped tables over people buying and selling in the church. He was only angry once, and this was the very reason. Matthew 21:12-13, And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
This is exactly what I mean. Churches think they have everything just because they have the lights and the technical stuff but if the Holy Ghost ain’t present then something isn’t right
They can probably work some Holy Spirit into that budget

This is so dumb. Imagine how much money is spent on these performances. Why don’t you take these funds and give them to the poor or needy
That church insurance policies payments have just gone through the roof. That is one very very expensive show.
If they were anything like my old church, they just gifted the claims investigator a fruit basket and a Gideon's Bible and called it a day.
Christmas is all about giving! To the church. So they can blow all of the money on stuff like this.
I think it is time to discuss taxing megachurches to pay for Medicare for all. WWJD

Honestly, I would be a little upset if my church did something like this. I give trusting that my money will be used to further the kingdom of Heaven, not on some laser light show with flying drummers.
There are people starving probably in their very congregation, but yeah, let’s put on a light show and cirque du solei like air performers.
They sell tickets and that’s what pays for the production. There’s nothing stopping you from donating to your local food bank or designating your church offering to go to a certain cause or ministry in the church. This event leads people to Christ and saves them from hell, not just a temporary bodily hunger. This church has programs to feed the hungry, among other worthy causes.
Well said, this adds nothing to the service other than make it material and not spiritual enough.
God is not in this church. I saw other videos they were singing about Snowmen and penguins and reindeer. Not to mention the Little Drummer Boy, who never even existed. This church has nothing to do with God. This is nothing more than a Disney production with the "Christian" labeled slapped on it.
Cool, I didn’t think Disney was holding church services…
Why can’t God’s church have the best worship performances? I have never been a fan of this song until I saw this performance live and was truly moved by the worship choir, the music, drums, lights, etc. This is a tool to bring people to Jesus and to save them from hell. Who says only the secular world can have a fantastic program? We’re supposed to give God our best.

It's all about entertainment!
I used to think so, but this “entertainment” leads people to Christ. Not everyone responds to things the same way. God uses different ways to get His Message to touch people’s hearts. There are people who attended this who would hardly step foot in a church. (Especially some of the dead churches I’ve seen.) Yet many people went to this, were presented the gospel and accepted Jesus into their hearts. Have you seen the full production? God’s Word is presented and God’s Word does not return void. How many people have you led to Christ?
@@wesleym.2962 I get a bit Leary at over the top productions like this. I knew someone who went to Prestonwood while they lived in TX a for a few years, and I have seen many scenes from these plays. Is the message of Christ humbly coming to Earth in the flesh, essentially being born in the most meager place, to be a ransom for our sins not enough? Do we REALLY need a Santa Sleigh and a 10 minute “Winter Song Medley” by dancing snowflakes and a member in a Frosty costume while “snow” falls from the rafters? Getting meat in the seats is one thing, producing TRUE FOLLOWERS of Jesus who will stand in the gap is another.
Truly following Jesus will cost time, money, effort, maybe even your career plans, relationships, or even your life ( as is the case for many missions workers across the globe). Having a “hip” or “fun” pageant where we dance around and sing about Rudolph or the Grinch, followed by 5 minute “sermon” about Jesus is rarely going to produce the kind of Christians we need to stand up against this fallen culture.

One of my fears during this show. Our sticks are connected to wristbands via fishing string to keep this from happening.

I wasn’t a fan of this song until I saw and heard this in person. The choir, lights, drummers, etc., truly brought this song to life for me. I hope I can go see this again before they change it.

Prestonwood is near Dallas. How many in that area are homeless or food insecure?
I live near Cleveland OH. If my church did something like this my thoughts would go to the people in downtown who literally sleep in empty buildings and doorways, or the people who line up halfway around the block for food banks. Imagine someone not knowing if they will make rent, but their church is putting on a whole commercial style light show 😒
Mark 14:7 Jesus tells us: “For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good…” (end quote)
If your desire is to feed the poor, nobody is stopping you.
