  • This video is dedicated to the most underappreciated members of the sport, the left-handed French grip fencers. Here's to ruining everyone else's day one lazy counterattack at a time.
    On a side note, this is the first video I made entirely using ffmpeg. No gui video editor used at all, and only vlc to view the clips.

    Cons of being a lefty: FUCKING CAN OPENERS

      sounds like a good idea..
      find out your local club and enrol in a beginners course where you can learn the basics... then of course if you are still interested do more fencing and advance - you don't need to take individual lessons just fence a LOT (I never did take lessons and had a great time- fenced as often as I could and everyone I could..... fenced for years.. many of them... competitively..)

      My point was that the advantage of 'posting', or rather gripping pommel nut on French Handle, is to be able to hit opponent's wrist, when he can not hit yours. No real advantage to holding pommel nut if you hit the guy in the chest; you are just lucky he messed up hitting your arm.

    Want to know something wild and crazy? You right handers can learn to fence left handed, just as I a left hander learnt to fence right handed to mix things up! And once you can swap about your ability to defeat opponents used to left handers will rapidly increase. I won states and nats championships and I am the least talented fencer I know! Some might say that's playing dirty, but let's be real here there's a very, very short window where your muscles explosive strength exists for. That time will pass. Make the most of it and get those wins in where you can. Then you can enjoy leaving smart arse comments taunting right handers on the internet for the next fifty years as I intend on doing. ;)

    What a big deal - leftie fencer. Seriously. I fence for a year and encountered plenty of lefties. In their case- you pretty much mirror each other. both target points are even. In the videos the opponent that charges fails, simply because they run into counter hits, and don't bother parrying them. Number of them screwed up, because the defending side uses french pommel grip for the most part.

    • @Demphure
      @Demphure 2 роки тому +1

      Oh man, a whole year? That’s DEFINITELY enough time to properly critique and coach this level of fencing. I’m a little surprised you aren’t on the Olympic team yet since you clearly could beat all of the fencers shown. It’s just so easy

    cool. but historical fencing is still superior. also the french grip is superior. i dont know why its called a french grip, its just a sword grip. it should be called a handshake grip. like normal people call it.

    • @krszam4112
      @krszam4112 3 роки тому +5

      1. Historical fencing is another thing, it’s like saying football is superior than volleyball. It’s called french grip because in 1900 french use this grip. Is very similar to italian grip

    • @albertbresca8904
      @albertbresca8904 3 роки тому

      handshake grip doesn't have the same ring to it...lol
      a sword grip ( I have found) is usually straight whereas the french grip has a slight bend either right or left (depending on whether for right or left handed fencers) ..
      historical fencing (or HEMA) is interesting and different I guess... and these days getting more or a following...
      but fencing (sports.. or olympic) has developed its own followers... i started as a sports fencer and have done some HEMA recently (never knew it actually existed) and it has a fun all of its own but it can't compete (in my eyes..lol) to electric fencing.... mind you each has an attractiveness I guess...
