    Jen I'm so excited, I'm one of your Cape Town audience and a piece in Sick was written by a best friend of mine, Mishka/Tariq Hoosen. If you liked his piece you must check out his articles in Catapult, that are all about scent, disability, and folklore, and his novella Call it a Difficult Night

    Thanks for another lovely vlog. I'm currently reading Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis (after hearing Jean talk about her so much on her channel I'm finally getting around to checking Davis out) and listening to the audiobook A Stranger in Town by Kelley Armstrong.

    Will be checking out the poetry shared in the description.
    Lol also realised I’ve never made lasagna before, it seems like so much work but it looked delicious
    I love short story collections, getting into them this year - that Deidre Sullivan hook sounds very interesting. Adding it to my imaginary TBR.

    Mr. M's preference on the pie! Loved the pie baking footage. It's gloomy with occasional flakes of snow here in Alaska so I was happy to be taken somewhere else. :)

    Made scones just before i saw you upload this. Scoffing scones while I watched you bake was wonderful. Bought Open Water by Caleb Nelson and Exciting Times by Naoise Dolan from the Stockport Waterstone's the other day - felt so good being able to browse bookshops in person again. Remember you going to the big prize night that Liz Berry won for that poem so is nice to hear you talk about that collection again.

    I'm laughing at myself because the thing that stands out the most for me in this video is that you made lasagna in a round dish. LOL. Lasagna isn't inherently a particular shape, but because for 60 plus years I've only seen lasagna baked or served in shapes with four corners, the round shape surprised me. What I'm reading? I just finished The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate, which was a wonderful choice by my local book club, and a poetry collection, Time and Materials by Robert Hass. I'm making my way through two books about nature bit by bit - The Nature of Oaks by Douglas W. Tallamy and Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake. And I'm halfway through a middle grade book called Nevermoor - The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend.

    I'm actually reading a series that I have borrowed from the library on Overdrive. It is the Lady Helen Series of books by Alison Goodman, and I am on the second of three novels called The Dark Days Pacts and it is paranormal. I also have Loveless by Alice Oseman and Cinderella is Dead still to read. On paperback I am reading a rather excellent series called Mrs Hudson and Holmes mysteries by Martin Davies and I am on the last book of the series there.

    Hey Jen just wanted to pop in to say how pretty you look in this outfit! :)
    Also 'The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night' arrived yesterday and i'm really looking forward on reading it. It's my first novel in english. So far i've only read graphic novels in english. Always been kinda intimidated to read a whole book in english, since my attention span is not the best ^^, and my first language is german, but since there is no translation out yet, i thought i'll give it a try!
    PS: I'm already in love with the cover!!

    • @jenvcampbell
      @jenvcampbell  3 роки тому

      I hope you enjoy it. :) It's a short story collection, not a novel, so that should help with the attention-span bit. I love short story collections for that reason x

    • @etwasbuchstabiges512
      @etwasbuchstabiges512 3 роки тому

      @@jenvcampbell meant short story collection not novel, sorry.
      Yeah that was my thought aswell. I also like, how language and story can be really "dense", (if that makes sense), and still not be hard to read, over a long period of time.
      Even though a long novel, has it's own beauty of course. :)

    My preference would be warm apple pie, with vanilla ice-cream on the side, yum.. your pie looks delicious! I wonder if you used any berries or food colouring though? The apple chunks in the pot looked vibrantly beet-red after cooking... or was that just the cinnamon? Unfortunately none of those books you mentioned are available to me on Overdrive (my library hasn't purchased those titles) 😕...oh well, my TBR is long enough as it is! Love your vids!
