Never get a Business Management Degree unless you have a specialization like Logistics, Marketing, or Accounting/ Finance. If all you have is Business Management, you might as well just be a Dominoe's pizza store manager at least they have a corporate pipeline to help you move up further.

The problem is the way traditional 4-year college is currently, being marketing is the real ... SCAM. In the early 1980's when, I earned my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, we all knew there was no connection between a college degree and obtaining a job in the field related to your earned degree. 1st) Does you family own their own "blue" collar business (i.e. plumbing, hearting and air conditioning repairmen, electrician, welding, etc)? If yes, them just get on the job training and start your career; 2nd) If, there is no family business and, you still want to work in the trades go to community college for 1-year and then get an apprenticeship; 3rd) If you want to be a draftsman or an RN Nurse then, just go to community college for two years and earn an AA degree. Also, please do not forget commission sales jobs never require any education past High School (i.e. Life Insurance agent, Real Estate agent, and Stock Broker, etc.)

You say you all new that there was no connection between a college degree and obtaining work in the field.
But they view I get is, and correct me if I am wrong, that if you had a BS in electrical engineering companies would see it as a proof of hard work and skill and very often hire you since they would teach you at the job. But again maybe that is wrong? I was not around in the 80s
My view however of today is that the BS degree is bare minimum, but they want you to know at least 50% when starting out, you do not need to know 100%, but definitely more than 10% that the degree gives you, So somehow you need to find the remaining knowledge through ether internships or someway else.
Maybe it has become more expensive to hire? Or companies are afraid you will leave early and not worth to teach you. But Companies seem today to be terrified to teach from the basics today.

Attended a crappy low end school, and earned a engineering degree while working full time, this was after I finished a military enlistment. I was offered and accepted a good job before my last semester, so I had no worries about a job during my last semester of college. To stay marketable I needed to develop and maintain my skill set. Subsequently I've never went to an interview and had not been offered the job. Without the degree I would never have gotten a "foot in the door".

@CyberMachine I'm a hiring manager. Ghost jobs aren't just jobs that aren't real in most cases. A lot of them are jobs posted and handled by 3rd party out sourcing like indeed that act as a constant opened door of applications especially in industries with high turn over. Meaning those postings are up when they are hiring, but they're also posted when they're not. Giving the illusion, they're not real. Sometimes, to even heighten the illusion , on-boarding teams will even do interviews even if they're not hiring because they still have to justify their role in the company they can't just do nothing and still get paid. But it can be beneficial when they build other locations, which why they're big on asking, "Are you willing to relocate" is a very frequently question. But honestly, middle management roles like these tend to just be the fluff between upper and lower management to shift blame and terminate when necessary as well.

I disagree, because stem is usually very difficult and statistics show that many engineering students graduate on average after 6 years for a 4 year degree, and to be fair, there is no shortage of engineers today, it is very saturated. Also in STEM, be very careful with the S in STEM because science is overrated today, biology, chemistry, mathematics do not provide work like they used to. Every students should look for internships and connections while in college. If you can have "fun" and get the "college experience" good for you those are extra perks. But, what matters the most is how good of a life you get after college and not during college. Like common do you want 4 years of fun, then a life of misery or the opposite ? Pick the right major, make connections with your profs, go to career fair for internships, join on campus association that would help you improve yourself. College is not cheap, so make it worth it ( in my case, I'm thankful for the scholarships I'm receiving, but all that came through making connections and some sacrifices. Electrical Engineering is no joke lol.) Good luck to everyone!

at 33, going on 34, maybe i'm out of touch but listening to some of these young people is amazing.
it's amazing that they think because they have a degree, that should waive the experience requirement, and that they should go right into middle management especially with these super broad degrees.
they are too young to realize that EXPERIENCE WITH A DEGREE as been a standard for at least the last 10-15 years. that is nothing new. Furthermore, it's not our fault some of yall didn't have to work while go to school. that's not the reality for A LOT of us because we didn't come from money. but if you're wondering how to have experience fresh out college, there it is lol. Those first jobs at 16, 17, etc. matter and should be listed until you progress far enough in your career. But today's kids don't wanna do ANY extremely low level job and that's on them.

Joining the armed forces to get a degree is a terrible idea. First, you are required to serve for a period of time, and you are forced to either live on base or relocate whenever you are told.
Also, it seems like cases of unexplained deaths are becoming more and more common, which is bad enough, but the armed forces tend to suppress these stories or do a half-ass job investigating.

I graduated with honors from a really good private university, and had to spend the next year nonstop applying to any jobs I could find. When I figured out market rate for my skill set and experience was $40k annually, my jaw nailed the floor. The job I finally got after a year of nonstop applying paid $52k which should be the greatest right? Wrong, I live in Austin Texas, and $52k is far too little to manage student loans, car payment, rent, food, and utilities, let alone medication and retirement savings. I had to move back in with my parents while I work full time as quality control in a pharmaceutical company. I even went into stem thinking this was the path where I’d get enough money to recoup the losses of student loans. What a scam…

That's what I did school is different enough for me never wants to college. I'm a why won't the cleaning business? I live on 26th street and I'm doing pretty well right now because do I live. I'm a rich or nothing. I live a simple life and I never went to school. In fact, I'm happier than a lot of people went to college. Cause that date no to cancel money. I owe nothing.

However, start applying now, because apprenticeship applications open every 2 years in some states. Cap. Mech engineers at at mid level experience don't usually make 200k unless in high cost of living areas. I graduated earlier this as a mechanical engineer and I only make 85k at 23. I had the misconception that engineers made 100k starting but I only know a few people who graduated with me that make that, and they either live in Seattle/LA or they pivoted into consulting or tech
If I had went to trade school instead of college, I would have already graduated and had a few years of work experience by now. From what I hear, in some fields even those with few years of work experience make over 100k.
I dont hate the job I have (it is better than being unemployed and not paying bills) but it doesnt pay all that well and I'm bored at a desk all day.
All because I could sit quietly and did well in math and science, I was pushed to do engineering over "blue-collar" work, being told they are paid less, what a lie.
I would not recommend engineering in most cases to people who like making things and learning the science of how stuff works. The technicians jobs are way more interesting and the pay is almost the same anyways

It depends on more than just what the degree is in, it's also what effort you put in AFTER the degree. I got a Bachelors in Psychology and make around 90k working for the state, with total compensation well over 100k.
Many people get degrees and say "Where is my high-paying job?" - the correct answer is "continued education via certifications and experience" will eventually lead to said job, but it won't be instant.

Take the classes to get the information you need to make you business work. The degree isn't necessary for those who want to do the job. Look at the likes of Gates and Jobs. That's how you do it. College is just another way to avoid growing up.
