Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication...great video. I think navigation is best taught in small digestible pieces. You have done that well.

The thing is, with your method, unless you've stayed on a perfect course of 90 degrees from your original starting point, you could be drifting off your original course, and then when you stop to check your compass, you'll read a course of 90 degrees from that point, and then you deviate once again from your original course, stop and take another compass reading, correct your direction of travel again to 90 degrees, ad infinitum. Using that method, you could end up missing your original objective, because you consistently deviated one direction from another from your original course, and then each time reset your course to 90 degrees from your "new" starting point. You need to do something like lining up two visible points and always keep then in line until you reach your intermediary point when you again select two points ahead to keep inline to navigate to. Many thanks.

True. It depends on what you are aiming for and how far away it is and also the angle of the ground. If micro-navigating or traversing a steep slope then yes I'd do that. If heading toward a larger line feature that isn't too far off then you shouldn't need to line up two points, you can just run on the compass bearing.

Do you ever take into account Declination? Or just ignore over the distances you're covering? Thanks!

At the moment where I am in the UK declination is only about 1 degree so not worth bothering with.
