Why haven’t I found this channel sooner. This video is filled to the brim with aesthetic and the demos of each example aren’t just boring uninspired blues licks.
I always enjoy Cyberattack videos, but I found this one especially inspiring. It had never occurred to me before to experiment in these ways with an effects loop!
Using the leftover accessories of a recently sold interface, I started experimenting with an OG Line 6 Catalyst as its replacement and manipulating the effects loop in a very unusual way with unexpected results like you said. It involves a monitor to headphone adapter going into a splitter looped with a cable. It ends up serving as a cheap attenuator; I’m not sure what this will do through a parallel loop, between two effects, in front of an amp, or when tubes are involved, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing it with speaker outputs to trick an amp into thinking it has a load since splitters obviously aren’t rated for handling that much power. For getting a louder tone, I also have the XLR output going into the aux since it doesn’t create a feedback loop on this particular amp as its aux only outputs to the headphone jack which itself is a design flaw, but useful this way.
Dude i am obsessed with the blend of mediums in this video, and most gear vids have examples that are generic covers or noodly improv, but you had me replaying the demos wishing they were on a streaming platform, incredibly talented
Man, don't ever stop. You deserve so many more subscribers. Love the vids, your rendtions of other artists songs, and your original song ideas. I'll definitely be staying tuned for new music!
7:50 one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I remember that Janet Jackson song from growing up, and I liked it at the time, but this is something else! Genius.
@@CyberattackWorld I should also point out that the chorus section in that song is stolen from Sonic The Hedgehog on the Master System - Bridge Zone. Not sure if you already knew that. I realised back in the 90s when the song was released, so it's nice to hear it played this way (sounds more like the sonic version). The verse/bridge parts are my favourites though, how they shift keys momentarily.
I knew about the metal zone trick… it’s a vastly underrated pedal because most 13-year-olds learning to play the guitar and into metal always ran it into the preamp of their amp (I’m guilty of this). Btw, your tracks are always dope af. That cover with the delay/ringmod sounded mighty fine!
8:15 Ahhh! Together Again!! I love when you cover Janet Jackson. Thank you for explaining effects loops in plain English for me. My amp doesn’t have an effects loop, but my blackskycraft Unusual EAS pedal does. Edited to add: Mortal Kombat 3 Sonya as played by Kerri Hoskins!! There’s my video game crush right there. Sonya Blade peaked in MK3 and I will die on that hill. All the later iterations in subsequent MK titles? Not my Sonya.
I use a Line 6 HX Stomp as an amp because it responds well to drive pedals and has an effects loop that can be placed anywhere in a virtual signal chain, including in parallel. I use the traditional irl effects loop placement (preamp>loop>power amp/cab) the least. I typically go after the cab for clean time effects or before the amp for a wash of swirling stereo echoes and verbs. Occasionally I use the Stomps effects to do both which allows for things like placing fuzz after reverb.
This is exactly how I use my HX Stomp in my looping rig! The internal routing options are amazingly useful, and it is a really flexible pedal platform. I tend to use the same amp model for everything, to keep the gain staging predictable across patches, but the options go deep.
I also have an HX Stomp. You might find this interesting. A while back, I saw Josh at JHS Pedals demonstrate using a Volume Pedal in the Effects Loop of a real Amp. I decided to see if that would work on the Stomp. I already have a 2-Button External Footswitch connected to the Expression/FS4-5 Jack on the back of the unit, but nothing plugged into the Send/Return Jacks. I connected my Roland EV-5 to the HX Stomp Send/Return Jacks with a "Stereo Breakout Y-Cable," and added a Volume Block at the end of the signal chain, and it works as a Volume Pedal.
Been experimenting with stereo parallel fuzz w/ two amplifiers. I.e. one fuzz going into amp A and another into B. XYU is always the sickest way to test if the tone is rippin! Killer video, man.
I love how inspiring all of your videos are. So many great ideas to try. Great playing by you, too, and awesome visuals! Your vids also don't necessarily make me want to go out and buy new shit, but instead get creative with what I've already got (which is plenty of shit already, to be honest lol).
For anyone interested in experimental FX Loop stuff, VFE Pedals is currently crowdfunding the V2 of their Klein Bottle pedal. It's basically an FX Loop on roids.
Good ideas and creativity as always- but what gets me yet again is your music- the visual and audial styles come together so mellifluously in your videos and you have a knack for making art out of garbage sounds.
Dang nice Smashing Pumpkins drop @9:54 ....and as I scrolled down to type this I just noticed that you have a link to every song from every video! Probably been there a while but now I know, sweet
Watched this yesterday but forgot to comment. Recently got my first preamp pedal with a loop and started using my pedals straight into my power amp with great results. Sounds closer to a true direct sound on bass, love it!
the ring mod in the fx loop of the delay is such an awesome combo! i have a similar sound set up in my delay where the mod goes fast enough to be a ring mod!
That ending sample was gorgeous!! If you're open to an outside opinion, I'd figure out something equally crunchy on the drums (they sound so clean as to be out of place imo) Otherwise the vibe is immaculate! 👌 Can't wait to hear the finished product!!
Great stuff! I've been doing similar stuff with couple analog delays with loops. Of course all the modulation and other delays, but also the shortest delay for chorus/doubling and adding nastier fuzz to the repeats only.
Another incredible ‘genre’ video! I really like the way the repeats sound with a ring mod on them, I have a keeley modified DD-3 with an FX loop that I will definitely try out a ring mod in. I love parallel fuzzes! I currently have the mix on my Plasma Pedal set so it sounds a lot like my clean guitar is being accompanied by a second guitar possessed by a demon. I’ll have to try out your trick of a fuzz set to Doom and a fuzz set to Velcro at the same time. Also, the Dick Dale skateboard animation was delightful.
Parametric EQ in the loop. Amazing. The guptech PPTSD is cheap and awesome. I use it to scoop out the annoying 1k-2k frequency to make high gain tones more pleasant on the ears
i once put a dod bass flanger in the loop of a deluxe memory boy and i've gotta say I liked that waaaay more than the chorusing that is produced by modulating the time delay. way nicer mod delay tbh. all beautiful examples as always and i hope you release your album soon
Where im from (im Filipino) bands almost never use the loop. Its 99% board --> amp input. I've never used it either but now i'll finally use it thanks to this.
The way I used the FX loop was to basically cross wire two amps. I had a tube amp 20 watt (joyo zombie) into a boss katana power amp in, basically making the Joyo zombie a 100 watt rectifier clone.
I'd like a full version of that Together Again cover, amazing. If you like that Fairfield pedal, definitely check out the Death By Audio Total Sonic Annihilation 2. I've been experimenting with parallel FX with both the Boss Line Switcher and the EHX Tri Parallel Mixer and you can really achieve some amazing tones, especially if you want to get fuzzed tf out but still have your guitar audible. Great video.
Props on putting a ringmod through a delay loop. I have the EHX memoryboy deluxe with S&R and I used it on a lot of projects with a boss eq in the return to boost the signal to where things would start oscillating but at the same time cut out the harshness and leave room to still play over it.
@@CyberattackWorld Yes! It was so great to hear- I grew up with that game! It’s cemented in my brain, haha. I just found your channel but I love your content and vibe!
Not sure if any of your pedals do it, but I've always loved delay FX loops that put the sound through the FX loop again on each repeat. You can make your own shimmer-verbs/delays this way by using your Tentacle or similar.
Love the 8 bit videogame and retro toys images, thanks a lot for the tips and for the time and effort to put this video together, it would be a sin not to suscribe. Cheers!
That parallel fuzz trick is exactly why I want to get an ehx tri parallel mixer pedal i just wish it had more than three channels like 12 would be way better hopefully i can get something built to do that many parallel loops would be super sweet i wouldnt them all at once often but having the option would be rad
Normally one would put frequency-changing effects like EQs, WahWahs, Distortions, Fuzz and so on between guitar and preamp. Sound-Modulating effects like reverb, delay, flanger, rotary emulator, octavater, phaser or such are normally put in the FX Loop, since the Sound-frequencies are already done to the point of ones liking and now you only want to add some reverb or smth. Also the more obvious the frequency effect, the further towards the guitar I would put it. Except for the NoiseGate. Right after that the EQ for an optional High-Boost if one wishes....at the very end a Boost pedal, if you have one. Then the Preamp. Modulation effects you can go apresht with the order. The more you try out the more funky sounds you get.
Nice. Two things: A) Parallel mixing with a pedal with two send returns that mix the high end of one with the low end of the other. I have an OUROBOROS for stuff like that, and thinking of getting the TYLER DELUX by KMA Machines. BIG DIFFERENCE! After you do that you will never go back. B) Just an artistic opinion on your last piece. I get the 80s aesthetic your going for ...BUT..... IMHO.....the glory of that fuzz timbre was masked and buried in the mix. Maybe alternate the timbres so that each one, shines in all its glory. Timbres with heavy harmonic partials are already micro harmonized and easily masked by regular harmony. Just a thought.
i agree with the mix note, that whole thing was a low-effort mix i did myself using GarageBand just to get this video out the door. when the song is really done i'll give it to my producer to mix, my skills are quick and dirty and i shouldn't be in charge
@@CyberattackWorld Oh I'm well aware of the art of mixing my friend. Maybe I didn't use my words correctly. My comment was about orchestration not mixing....and was more about an aesthetic choice based on the fact that the aspect of timbre is at war with some of the other aspects of music.
The EXH “Talker” pedal actually has an efx loop for some reason, lol. It’s already a bizarre pedal, but I’ve in/outed a dirt box, a pitch shifter and this old Digitech chorus/flange pedal which has ridiculously severe settings, and the result was suitable only for the criminally insane. 😛
thanks dude. i don't know entirely how I did it either because that sound is a preset, the details of which I forget, and also the labels on that thing are impossible to read. but i hope someday we'll know.
