(Sorry if my english is bad or i dont explain correctly) To use the mortar correctly in control gamemode, shoot when you see the enemy team is capturing (if you dont know, if you look at the part of the screen where it says A, it shows when a enemy team tries to capture) i get a lot more kills with it than shooting randomly, another good idea is to use a teammate as if it was radio operator and he tells you where to shoot while you check the coordinates on the wiki of airship assault but if you dont have friends to talk, and your teammates ignore you, it becomes useless and people will hate you because you dont shoot because for some reason everyone thinks spamming mortar shells is better than shooting a mortar shell that at least kills a lot of players because you think before shooting Detailed explanation but somewhat long and perhaps boring: Generally everyone maintains constant bombardment with a single mortar, which can be somewhat ineffective since almost no one bombs where they know there are enemies, they bomb only the flag, fortress or mountains, but that is quantity over quality sometimes, you may get some kills but the three mortars have a lot more potential than like 3 kills every 5 shots, the enemies can hide under cover, and they can avoid being there for a long time on the flag since they would know that they bomb only there, the ammunition does not regenerate quickly, so there can really be some problems, but if you have a teammate who tells you where the enemies are hiding, and you shoot only when you know that there will be great concentration of enemies, to do this quickly, shoot at the enemy, not at an enemy location, the enemies avoid where mortar shells fall, but they can't do much if a spy tells you that there are several enemies on the roof of the fort, and the wiki tells you the coordinates of the roof of the fort, the ideal would be to have a decent mortar crew, that is, they follow your plan to attack where they know there are enemies, what they can do is have each uni fire but not with exact coordinates since the Mortar explosions have a large explosion radius, meaning that each mortar has a somewhat imprecise azimuth or elevation so that if all 3 fire at the same time or in a burst, they cover a greater area, and could erase each enemy that is close to the flag or further away. in that area, and in case you cannot have a friend on call, or that no teammate can spy, you can simply remember what patterns you saw when it was your turn to assault the central island, and although with less efficiency you could perhaps predict where there are enemies. One time I was grey and has captured the grenland’s transport airship during control mode, and then when I try to bring it back to our base with the grenland airship ramp closed everyone started focusing on the CAPTURED grenland’s airship. Then no one cares about the objective so the grenland team wins, I tried telling not to, but I don’t know what was going in their minds
Literally got into an argument with somebody who had 15 wins over the mortar Isles trick, calling me an idiot for positioning the ship there and his "smart" idea was crashing the ship.
Another hack: (this might get you vk if they find it was you) so what you want to do is switch teams, choose raider, and spawn in mortar pit. Then you drive mortar cart to where nobody can see, then plant dynamite on the metal beams on rail, and drive cart into it. The cart will derail and shells will have to be delivered by hand. Then reset so nobody knows who did it. (This is optional but you can stay on the team you SABBED an watch their reaction).
Uuh I'm not even sure how it works but it sure does! I'm guessing there is an issue with the map building that let's the mortars damage through the walls

Try 53.1° and 88 on left mortar in control point
go to the losing team, look up the mortar coords to hit the flag and fire away, I got like 70 kills one game by doing this
lmao just get better at aiming it then. if you use it right then you can really get some kills
