don't EVER want to hear Yankee fans cry and whine about money spent by other teams. This is just the Ohtani effect in full bloom. Not only the deferment , but, he made team promise to use that extra $ to build and they have. All the $ he's brought in from Japan and jersey sales , ads , etc... it's all comin into fruition now and Dodgers front office is just taking advantage of it all. just seems over the top because other teams aren't spending a dime. that's not our problem . haha , cry more .

It's not that the dodgers cheat or break any rules or laws to be the best team they can possibly be. Any mlb team can do what the dodgers do, including deferring money. But they refused to do it and they shouldn't have waited too long before doing anything to bring in elite players before the dodgers signed them. The dodgers went through a huge injury bug from their pitching staff the last couple of years. Thats why they are not messing around and they're being serious that they want to win. The celtics roster is full of high leverage elite star studded players. Same thing with the dodgers, their roster is full of high leverage elite star studded players. If no one is mad, upset, or jealous about the celtics roster, then why is anyone mad, upset, or jealous about the dodgers roster?

As great as Gearge S. was, people get lost in alot of the shady shit he did. Yankee fans didnt start to love him until the late 90s success. Should Hal have gotten a private investigator on Soto? Im not a yankees fan but I do think George gets romanticized a bit too much. People dont realize the shitty place he had left the team when he stopped over seeing things. There was no farm system and most of the players were overpaid and past their prime. But at the time it was working for the short term and yankees fans were bitching that they needed to do what george did and throw money at big names even if it didnt make sense.
Also couldnt it be that maybe alot of the lack of growing the farm system the yankees did in the early 2000s to mid 2010s is still biting them in the ass. Old habits die hard. It takes years to fix a bad farm system. Yankees had the worst farm system for years when I was growing up. Nobody would trade with them because they didnt have prospects worth trading for and most of their team was overpaid for the production they were getting. They got 4 championships using players developed in their farm system and building the lineup with guys who can hit. Then using their big bucks on big arms. Then they decide that they need to get big bats and sacrificegetting big arms for it and I know they still had great success with guys like Giambi sheffiled, and Arod, but they were always out in the first round due to no pitching and outside of that lone WS appearance (which they went to in big part due to getting 2 big arms in sabathia and burnett) they didnt do shit other than have a good regular season. You can say they were able to get cole, but really what other pitcher who had multiple years of success have they gone for and clearly wasnt past their prime in recent years? They didnt go for verlander when they should've. Rondon is basically 2020s version of what they did with Javier Vasquez (they acquired vasquez after a break out year, paid him a shitload but it clearly was a one-hit wonder year and he never succeeded with the team). The reason the dodgers have so much success is because alot of their money goes to their arms. Then they add good players who can hit for average and the rest are homegrown.
Who on last year's team was home grown and is part of the core of the lineup? We know judge. Torres who spent most of his minor league career with the cubs and they were already trying to get rid of. Volpe who alot of fans say can't hit outside fo small streaks he has. Wells who played half-time and still hasnt figured out MLB hitting but is somehow their 4th batter.
It's nice paying for the big bats but there is something to be said when you have a team of guys where most of the lineup came up together in the minors. They have that comroderie from playing together for years and going through similar experiences together

The Yankees were responsible for 34% of the money coming from the top five payrolls in 2005. The Dodgers are only responsible for 24% of the top five payrolls for 2025. They are spending nowhere near as much as the Yankees spent in the early 2000s. The reason why it feels like the Dodgers have a much larger payroll than everyone else is because they don’t have any dead money and they still have a top three farm system in all of baseball. They dont have 115 million going towards Stanton (useless in the regular season), Lemahieu, Rodon, Stroman, Rizzo, Hicks etc They also only have 1 top 100 prospect compared to the Dodgers 8.

I cant deal with some yankee fans. These are the same ones who killed the long contracts, lack of a farm system, lack of young talent. O by the way thats with having the 3rd highest payroll. Spending money isn't the issue, its being smarter with how they spend their money. Am i sad to see soto go yes but a 15 year deal is ridiculous. And these so called fans would be the first to kill the team when the deal doesnt age well. The same with the deferred money. I think the team is more balanced then last year 3rd base is still an issue. I have no issues with the yankees off-season

I mean he’s just telling the truth. This idea that the Yankees are the richest team in the game just isn’t true. This isn’t 1998 lol Steve Cohen has more money than anyone and he’s not coming close to the dodgers. The bottom line is, no team should have a 500 million dollar payroll. The game is broken (as it always has been). The competitive balance is broken. This is a baseball issue. Not a “Hal is cheap” issue. That’s the dumbest thing you could possibly say.

@ last year the dodgers had 353 million in payroll and 103 million in luxury tax penalty for 456 million in total. Idk all the intricacies of the luxury tax rules but at 375 million this year and the fact that they’ve stayed over the limit for so many years, they’ll easily top 500 million this year and that doesn’t include all the deferred money. The Yankees for 2024 paid about 380 million in total and that’s only because they reset their penalties to some extent a few years ago. It’s just not a sustainable model. Yes the Yankees are worth 7.5 billion (which isn’t how much cash they have. Just what the franchise is worth if sold) but when you look at Steve cohen who has a personal net worth north of 20 billion and the dodgers are owned by the Guggenheim partners who have over 320 billion in assets, the Yankees cannot keep up. They’re not hurting either but they can’t take a loss every year. The Mets haven’t been profitable since Steve Cohen bought the team but he doesn’t care. The Steinbrenner’s simply don’t have that luxury

Yes, Cashman had a role in this. He traded for Chuck Knoblauch, signed El Due Que, traded for David Justice etc

Does everyone forget how George was suspended in 1989 for hiring a hustler Alex Spira, to get information on Dave Winfield’s Foundation. George did not always make good moves. Gene Michael took over , and made some really great trades, the young players from the farm system like Jeter,Pettite,Rivera, and Bernie Williams etc. Some of us Yankee Fans do not expect the team to get every player. If Soto wanted to be a Yankee, he would be a Yankee. The Yankees still struggled last year, even with him. I just would to see a team with good fundamentals, which hasn’t been the last couple of years.

I understand where Stephen is coming from, there’s no way in hell George Steinbrenner would have allowed Juan Soto, to sign with the Mets, there’s probably no way he would’ve allowed the Dodgers to sign Shohei Otani either. Big market teams can use the same exact strategy as the Dodgers, buy now and pay later. Obviously there’s a passive aggressiveness on the part ofHal Steinbrenner. All things considered, buying tickets to a Yankee game is the most expensive sporting decision.a consumer could ever make.. in spite of that, when a team from a big market is in the playoffs, people still spend money to attend, the Yankees are one of the biggest money making franchises in all of sports and they have their own network to go with it, so people just want Hal to have some passion as well as a sense of urgency. not to take away from anything, I think the Yankees had a very decent off-season and the team they put on the field this upcoming year will be probably a better team than last season. even so, don’t be afraid to spend some money, it’s not like it’s coming out of your pocket Hal, it’s coming out of the pocket of the season-ticket holders.
