- We had a great time hunting for Montana sapphire gem stones at the Blue Jewel Mine. If you are a rock hound this is a great place to visit.
The find of the day was a 5.5 ct blue sapphire.
What a great family outing and sapphires for a bonus. Great video Thanks
Thanks Mike. We had a great time with the kids doesn't happen often enough these days.
Nice 🎉
Thanks for watching.
Where can I buy one of those shakers that has the classifiers
Nice! Looks like a fun day. I will definitely put this on my list for next summer. Looking forward to seeing the gold that's in the material you brought back. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! It a great place to visit just make sure you call ahead. We found some gold in the dirt we brought back not to bad for 2 buckets I already posted the video.
@@alanrobertson2510 how much does it cost for you to do this, I'd really love to have cons to pick through and work on with my dremel
Awesome vid...very nice stones.....thank you for all you do...and all the info you provide...keep up the great work....good luck, happy hunting.
Thanks Tony. Some of the stones we found should turn out great once we get them heat treated and cut. Thanks for watching.
I have always wanted to do this, on my bucket list lol. Thanks for the video
The Blue Jewel is a great place to visit I hope you can check it off your bucket list at some point. Thanks for watching.
こういうことで生計が立てれるならきっと楽しいでしょうね。 人生一度はチャレンジしてみたいです
NUGGET SHOOTER JOURNALS me too
Crazy 😜
That’s sweet I’ve always wanted to mine for sapphires . I have found a few small one before
Set up a light table jig for underside lighting. Dusk through evening is a great time to use backlighting to see the gems amongst the rocks. If the lights are bright enough to use at noon you'll probably go blind. 😜😎
Thanks for the tip.
I saw one guy post about using a glass pie plate.
@@randyfelts4625 We like to just keep the gravel wet and the stones just look like shine glass.
Family and I are heading there tommorow! Can't wait!
You will have a blast fur sure and not walk away empty handed. We are going next week.
The wife and I are heading to Montana Saturday night or Sunday morning from Minnesota. We will have to try a bit of panning.
Did you happen to find anything? And where did you go? I'm going next month
@@akin_waviness1 yes we found some fine gold.
Cool video must be tedious looking in all those rocks but worth it. Nice collection.
Thanks. It's not to bad once you get the eye for finding them.
Hello.we are finding them but we just thought they were quartz! We keep everything like👍
They could be quartz check and see if anyone has found sapphires were you are located. Thanks for watching.
Alan Robertson nobody has found anything since the Romans as far as I know!👍 I'm finding Roman things in between them.
Do you know what the purple to brownish purple stone is found in the sapphire concentrates?
Awesome finds
I hope to go looking for sapphires one day. I wish to find a green one and it will be the center piece of my collection
I hope so to. It is a ton of fun we try and get to the mine a least once a year. Thanks for watching.

What does it cost to go there?
I mined a small creek in northeast washington last weekend and didnt realize i was throwing away diamonds so clear they looked like small icecubes , i thought they were just clear quartz . pisses me off !! Iv been recovering from shoulder surgery so i used my left hand mostly and it was tough . theres as much garnet as black sand in my pan , all of this was only down about a foot in the creek .
Hey Travis so you will be going back to that spot again Right! that sounds like a great spot and maybe you shoulder will be better next time. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Question did u bring all the equipment or was it there? We live in montana and dig Crystal's quite often on the Idaho boarder. We are wanting to start doing sapphires but kinda need to know what we will need to bring with us. Thanks for the video
Crystal's sounds fun. You just need to call ahead and set up a time to visit other than that they have everything you need. Be sure you tell them you saw this video. Thanks for watching.
Thank u so much
Thanks for another adventure. Looks like you got some very nice stones for all your work. Are you going to have them cut?
We had a great day with the kids. I think we found 5 stones to cut and I think we are going to have them heat treated this time. As always thank you for watching.
you all prolly dont care but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me

Hi there! It’s very nice rewiew of the claiming sapfires. I am totally new and do not understand how you get know that is is saphire.. could you make a video about this or just give some advice for us? We are thinking to visit US in the end of September. Is it good time for digging? How much costs enterance to that area, how many time takes cutting and how much it could cost? Where to find right person who will help you? Sorry for my grammar, but is is realy interesting experience i think
Next time I get over there I will explain more about how to look for the sapphires. This mine will close at the end of august there are several other places to search for sapphires some around Helena and a few in Philipsburg Montana. Have a good trip to the US.
Do they have a campground too? It would be a nice touch...
Hi Cindy They do not have a campground but there is a campground on the way out from Helena on the river we just pulled out on the side of the road the other night and spent the night and it worked fine for us.
Can you use a magnet ?
No the sapphires are not magnetic but it sure would be fun to see how much would stick to a magnet. Thanks for watching.
Hemitites are magnetic, so a magnet would held you find them.
what is the cash value of the stones you took today?
We found a few nice one but no big money sapphires, If I had to guess after they were cut probably $400 or $500.
@@alanrobertson2510 hey Alan gram that 400$ Baghdad
I meant to seperate the magnitites
muinto bonita as pedras
Great score Alan my girlfriend wants a pink one can you hook me up bro I can cut them if you need some cut awesome video :)
Hi can you supply facet rough
No I have no stones for sale.
Whaaaaaaat...
Not seeing much good colour there.
Gòod finds, to me, compared with sapphires from Queensland Australia, these seem very pale colours.
Have a look for 'Tim's Adventures' UA-cam sequences. He is within a small about 10 square kilometer "commercial" field where machinery is allowed. The entire fields are several thousand sq kilometer, all but commercial area, is reserved for fossicking with manual operations only.
Did some surface searching in 1970s. Digging prevented by ststt of summer monsoon, rainy, period. So just walked over previous winter diggings. In 6 days my father and I found over 300 carats of various sapphires in blue, green, straw, pale colours various, red/pink and a number of large star sapphire pieces just exposed by the weather/rains.
Local camping park store owner offered $400 immediately to buy our lot, as we were about to leave. In 1970s that was worth much more than now, but we kept them. Not a bad result for little effort. A family we met on arriving had a secret site, they demanded we do not follow, far in the forested area, they had a 55 carat deep Straw yellow stone found the previous year at their special dig, insured at $500K faceted as a large ring mount.
Sounds like you have some nice stones over there. We find some nice ones here too they are just far and few between.
A lot of the commercial mines sapphires are sold on the world market. Unusually many are remarketed as Srilankan sapphires though real output from there is scaling down, almost as if there the mines are running out. SRILANKA does have good Rubies those seem less common elsewhere around the world. Our Queensland sapphires do have some red ones but mostly not quite the rich blood red from Srilanka. Our straw yellows can be world leading, and the remaining green to deep blues are world class in the best examples. Of course like always there are masses of lesser stones, and tons of black conundrum for grinding related uses.
The precious stones though are enough that many people earn fortunes.
Other than the old timer, there were a retired old couple where we searched, they had retired from running a motel, after the husband had a heart attack. They started traveling with a long caravan and 4WD and happened on the fossiking gem fields and found some sapphires, and ceased travelling. In one year they earned over $1.5M (1973 $) and that manually only working a couple of morning and a couple of evening hours only, resting in the hottest daytime hours. Due to heavy monsoon rains digging is not sensible over our summer as the water turns the grey dust layer into gooey clay that washing out the gems is near impossible. Virtually each pebble must be finger rubbed in water to wash off the clay.
So about 6 working months only is possible, which is why we only surface searched old rubble of the winter diggings.
Good luck with any future gem digging for you.
