Crazy effort you put in for this champ. Cutting the fight down to half an hour and then translating that half hour in only 2 days is a crazy feat. Thanks for your hard work! I love seeing Subaru experiencing thing's I've known for more than 10 years now for the first time. Brings back those childhood memories of not exactly knowing how the moves work or which Pokemon has what type. And the happiness of beating your first champion. You can't replicate that feeling. But seeing and hearing that happiness from Subaru at least brings parts of that memory back. What a beautiful moment.
Man, I honestly really forget just how much of a normie Subaru was before joining Hololive. It's honestly refreshing seeing someone actually enjoy a Pokemon game and not just blow through it with over leveled mons.
Blowing through with overleveled mons is a perfectly enjoyable experience. Probably not for you but that's my preferred method when playing through a new region for the first time.
It’s not blowing through it with overleveld pokemon It’s breezing through it because the games are really easy once you understand how stats and typings work
Buddy, even overleveled...this fight SUCKS! The AI difficulty on this battle is just NUTS, the switch ins, the type advantages, when she heals her mons. THE FUCKING ITEMS (First try beat Cynthia's garchomp, that day I learned it had a Yache berry to reduce ice type attacks. I pogged immediately.) Almost lost to two eq only cause of the friendship buffs. If it weren't for those. I'd have lost my first even elite 4 run through in a pokemon game. This fight, Volo, and Ultra Necrozma are THE hardest fights in recent memory.
Watching this live during her stream was intense, exciting and tear jerking all at the same time. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Subaru's Pokemon journey and watching her grow. Hope she plays more Pokemon games in the future. This was tons of fun.
As someone on Reddit said, I wish I could delete the 20+ years of Pokemon knowledge and experience from my brain and let it hit me fresh like Subaru does. Everything she does in this stream, from her screams of frustration to the cheers of triumph, are so sincere and genuine. The fact that she's an adult playing a game like Pokemon and having these sorts of reactions would be over the top coming from just about anyone else, but for Subaru, that's just who she is, pedal down, full gas, no brake. Those of us left wish that we could experience life like her.
You know why you have a problem with enjoying the games? You're probably too busy having expectations when that's the one thing you shouldn't bother thinking about because if they aren't met you're going to be disappointed. It's not just Subaru, I enjoy each new pokemon game I play because I go in with no expectations or needless hype. I go in with an open mind and curiosity to explore each and every new region. It's the spirit of the game and I abide by it. Mind you, I've been playing since the very beginning so I have around the same level of experience. It's all about how you approach/treat the game.
Subaru did extremely well for a beginner most mistakes really just came down to missing game knowledge i kinda want to see her do a nuzlocke i bet that'd be amazing to watch
Especially when gym to elite four is a 0 to a 100 real quick.. Elite 4 and Cynthia's Mon are EV trained (if I remember correctly Cynthia's EVs are maxed) and almost all have items beneficial to them.. Gym leaders and trainers only use berries for held items if I'm not mistaken For someone new (and someone who bring a bibarel) Subaru really did well, congrats to her hard earned victory
@@desert8616 you are correct, cynthia's pokemon basically are all competitive sets. Max EVs that are properly allocated, items that work for each pokemon's function, and good natures as well.
Cynthia has been considered the most powerful and terrifying Champion in the franchise, ever since she first appeared in the original Diamond and Pearl games. Quite ironic, since she’s one of the nicest characters in the series. 😅 But in all seriousness, her team came out of nowhere for most of us. No one knew about Spiritomb, since the requirements for catching one were insane. No one expected her Milotic to be such a tank, especially with Mirror Coat. Roserade, Gastrodon, and Lucario were tough, but we’d seen them before, so we could adjust more easily. But then…we met her Garchomp. The king sweeper of the generation, and the face of so many nightmares. Especially since Fairy-Type Pokémon wouldn’t exist for years. And this was back in Generation Four, the EASY version of her team! THIS is the greatest iteration of her team, with competitive stats, moves, and items. This is the reason why, even now, we FEAR fighting Cynthia. Because even if we come prepared, she can still utterly destroy us. She is the reason why I will NEVER play a Nuzlocke game! 21:53 “Cynthia, are you a demon?!” You just asked the very same question everyone in your position asks.
It's so refreshing seeing someone get surprised, pumped up, emotional and having so much fun while playing pokemon, I've never had such experience with the games or at least I don't remember. First time it's so important for that sense of wonder... also seeing people play in the... let's say Okayu way it's what you see everywhere
Subaru really plays like a protagonist and reminds me of the joy when I play pokemon for the first time. She cries and laugh along with her pokemons and watching it was wonderful.
15:59 same thing I said about Charizard when I first saw him but here we are For those that aren't quite sure on Pokemon, as a lot of mentioned in the comments, Cynthia's whole team is basically comp ready the Milotic in this case has a fire orb which gives Miltoic a burn but halves it's attack (granted it only has spec attack moves). Milotic has a special ability called "Marvel Scale" which when the Pokémon has a status ailment increases its defence by 50%, so naturally you would think "Well let use spec attack moves then" but if you do this the Milotic also has a move called "Mirror Coat" which when it's hit by a spec attack move, Mirror Coat will do 2x the damage back. On top of Milotic's best stat being their spec defence
Her journey started as a legit anime protagonist. Unaware of the dangers of the world, and slowly learning how to grow and together with her friends, she persevered every single challenge, there was pain, there were tears. There was frustration, and all of that was for the sake of our Shuba Lord to grow stronger. She enjoyed the journey the way any of us would if we were playing pokemon for the first time. It was really moving seeing her win when all odds were against her, and she makes me really proud.
On behalf of kaigainiki, thank you very much for the long translation And if i may be selfish, please clip Watame's journey too. Her journey were also enjoyable to watched Arigatou, and Otsu
Subaru : I feel like I'm going to get traumatized by Cynthia. Old players : She's already our source of trauma. Her champion battle sure is very anime. Fairly underleveled, barely have enough knowledge of the Pokemon and their types, subconsciously triggered Nuzlocke senses throughout the entire battle and pulled through with the power of friendship. I don't know what her ideal battle scenario is, but stalling for buffs and switching out for "meat shields" is actually pretty common. Though honestly that was the first time I saw Cynthia doing constant switching for the battle, the other members doesn't seem to encounter that on their fight with Cynthia, even those that did Nuzlocke like Calli or Pekora. It's interesting how she was already nervous at the beginning, but as the battle go on further, her tension keep on rising to the point that she couldn't even talk calmly. And that Milotic seems to have pushed her beyond her limits. That was one competitive Milotic and she managed to endure that fairly well.
@Gundamfinal - I know these longer clips sometimes seem to get fewer views than shorter clips, but thanks for bringing this one to us and thanks for all your work.
Aww, I wanted her to switch in Ace and end up screaming "WHAT THE HELL IS A YACHE BERRY?!?" Also, as frustrating as they are for nuzlocke players, the affection mechanics are (almost) worth it just for excited reactions from genuine new players whenever their favorites dodge a lethal blow
She didn't get through with blind luck like lucky crits or the power of friendship bs, she got through with her will and knowledge she collected throughout the journey. She uses everything she have, her knowledge, her items, and her pokemon to find ways to actually succeed. From barely knowing anything to properly use strategy to defeat cynthia while being slightly underleveled. Its easy to just grind, get overleveled and stomp Cynthia but she didn't and I truly respect that. Ash definitely can't do something like that.
Congrats to Subaru for winning this. Truly feels like a real Pokemon Journey. Subaru is whom I imagine if James (Kojiro) is the protag of Pokemon Anime. I love watching more seasoned trainer like Sana, Okayu, or Ina, but full-on Zero-to-Hero story like Subaru's (and I believe Sora later on) is how it reminds our first Pokemon game in the past. Thanks Gundamfinal for translating and clipping this.
Subaru didn’t know what she was getting into, but I know that everyone who’s played the game started getting heart palpitations when that music started.
Now I get why the battle lasted as long as it did, she had 4 freaking water types in her team... it's amazing that she actually managed to pull this off.
Beating a hard boss is always something you gonna remember and Subaru remind me the joy of it. Last time I was like this when I fought Octopath Traveler True End Boss, Arianrhod from Ao no Kiseki, and Loewe from Trail in the Sky SC. Man, I wish Subaru could play Trail games.
@@irinechemist2550 Tell me about it. And the worst part is, despite being the true final boss, beating it gives you absolutely no fanfair. You don't get a new ending or even any real acknowledgement of what just happened. You just come out of the dungeon with a bunch of money and an item, neither of which are really needed because you've just bested the single hardest battle in the game.
I think the most satisfied I've felt when overcoming a challenge was when I beat Marx Soul in Kirby Super Star Ultra for the first time, as I was stuck on getting past Galacta Knight in the True Arena for over a month, and somehow beat Marx Soul on my first try reaching him. Even when doing way harder things since such as beating Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest on Lunatic difficulty, nothing has matched the satisfaction I've gotten from beating Marx Soul.

Her first pokemon game is the one with the hardest champion. Another one traumatized by Cynthia, but in the end, she somehow did it! Also, you can pay to win against Cynthia, but you can't against Sana - or any other member, because that's not allowed in multiplayer battles. I hope she gets a normal level opponent in the tournament and not one that can steamroll her, considering her team structure, I can see that happening. Thank you for translaing this.
It’s not blowing through it with overleveld pokemon
It’s breezing through it because the games are really easy once you understand how stats and typings work
Flashbacks to that time i commited genocide with lucario in black 2
I have never seen Cynthia switch so much in any of YT videos
Yes, Oozora Subaru is my favorite anime protagonist
Subaru did extremely well for a beginner most mistakes really just came down to missing game knowledge i kinda want to see her do a nuzlocke i bet that'd be amazing to watch
Especially when gym to elite four is a 0 to a 100 real quick..
Elite 4 and Cynthia's Mon are EV trained (if I remember correctly Cynthia's EVs are maxed) and almost all have items beneficial to them.. Gym leaders and trainers only use berries for held items if I'm not mistaken
For someone new (and someone who bring a bibarel) Subaru really did well, congrats to her hard earned victory
@@desert8616 you are correct, cynthia's pokemon basically are all competitive sets. Max EVs that are properly allocated, items that work for each pokemon's function, and good natures as well.
Well.... she had 4 water types
Cynthia has been considered the most powerful and terrifying Champion in the franchise, ever since she first appeared in the original Diamond and Pearl games. Quite ironic, since she’s one of the nicest characters in the series. 😅
But in all seriousness, her team came out of nowhere for most of us.
It's been two years and I'm here rewatching this legendary battle
It's so refreshing seeing someone get surprised, pumped up, emotional and having so much fun while playing pokemon, I've never had such experience with the games or at least I don't remember. First time it's so important for that sense of wonder... also seeing people play in the... let's say Okayu way it's what you see everywhere
Thank you for subbing this fight, I love when people translate longer clips, and especially Subaru because she’s so adorable
Subaru really plays like a protagonist and reminds me of the joy when I play pokemon for the first time. She cries and laugh along with her pokemons and watching it was wonderful.
🎶 _Oniii noo Shiroonaaa_ 🎶
22:15 Especially since you’re facing the second-biggest threat on her team at that point.
Thank you for the mega clip, Gundamfinal! I'm ready to dive in~
Edit: Now that was an epic ride
"WHAT'S A SPRITIOMB?!"
*its the beggining of the end*
15:59 same thing I said about Charizard when I first saw him but here we are
For those that aren't quite sure on Pokemon, as a lot of mentioned in the comments, Cynthia's whole team is basically comp ready the Milotic in this case has a fire orb which gives Miltoic a burn but halves it's attack (granted it only has spec attack moves).
It was really moving seeing her win when all odds were against her, and she makes me really proud.
man this battle really remind me of my first battle against winona, the item spam, the desperation, the sheer type confusion, it's feel so nostalgic
Altaria....
On behalf of kaigainiki, thank you very much for the long translation
And if i may be selfish, please clip Watame's journey too. Her journey were also enjoyable to watched
Arigatou, and Otsu
This was really fun to watch . The person that made the subtitles has my salute .
This battle gave me an Anton Ego moment from Ratatouille.
_facing Cynthia for the first time is always a rite of passage for all beginner trainers._
Thank you Gundam I've been looking forward to this since you put the trailer out!
Thanks for the translation, it's amazing to watch Subaru get completely caught up in this fight.
Now if only she play Black/White... I want to see her reaction when she enter a certain normal looking house but greeted by Cynthia theme there lol
When she defeating 1 of elite 4 it take -+1 hour
@Gundamfinal - I know these longer clips sometimes seem to get fewer views than shorter clips, but thanks for bringing this one to us and thanks for all your work.
Aww, I wanted her to switch in Ace and end up screaming "WHAT THE HELL IS A YACHE BERRY?!?"
Also, as frustrating as they are for nuzlocke players, the affection mechanics are (almost) worth it just for excited reactions from genuine new players whenever their favorites dodge a lethal blow
Honestly dodging is fine. The higher crit chance is fine. But I don't like that affection acts as a focus band or full heal.
Thank you for clipping and subbing more than 30 minutes of Subaru content!
The season 4 Ash did. He played really well, but in the end he got smashed by an uber noob
she did it like a true champ, spamming full restores, lance would be proud
@@vitortakara7090 She spammed Moomoo Milk, revive, and status heal items like Ice Heal. I don't think she used a full restore.
@@shinkenneth i meant she spammed healing items in general as most of then are very broken in pokemon
Ash is just 10 years old man. He's just a fish in the ocean lol
Subaru : *feeling really guilty for healing in-between setting up dragon dance*
Kiara : healing item stall let's goooooo
Thanks for translating all of this! It was great to see Subaru pull through, given how little she knew about Pokemon when she started.
GUNDAM MY BOI THANK UUUUUUUUUU FOR THE TRANSLATION !!!!
+1 sub
"I really want to win"
*Cinthya laughed as she consumed Shuba's dream and froze her Gyarados*
Plot twist(s) of the decade.
Easily one of Subaru's best moments. 31 minutes of utter dramatic greatness.
Good job with the long vid, mah dude.
So proud of this Duck. Her playthrough is truly one heck of a journey.
This Video is basically a visual rapresentation of how everyone felt fighting cynthia for the first time
Subaru didn’t know what she was getting into, but I know that everyone who’s played the game started getting heart palpitations when that music started.
There's only one way to describe this: BLOODY EPIC
Thank you for the translation! I enjoyed watching the whole battle.
I can’t believe she two shot that monster of a Garchomp hahaha getting the dragon dance to x6 was the right call
Subaru best girl. Hands down. Her reaction to winning brought me to tears. YA TA!
Oh God, Octopath’s true boss is on a whole different level.
Yeah, especially with the fact that you need to redo the entire dungeon if you lose is not making it any better lmao
LETSGOOOOOOOOOO 31MINUTE GUNDAMFINAL VID
Thank you for this! 30min video - what a banger
One of the best quality fan translations Ive seen. Thank you!!
21:52 Hearing Subaru just start singing "Cynthia the demon, Cynthia the demon," over and over had me laughing. I personally don't watch much of the JP branch of Hololive since I don't speak Japanese and get annoyed with subtitles, but I feel like with a few of them, especially Subaru now, I wouldn't mind.
And if anything, it's motivation to one day try to even learn the language itself!
That intro was heavenly
This was such a perfect playthrough from start to finish, she is literally the protaganist gamefreak dreamed of when they created the pokemon games.
"Cynthia might end up becoming one of my traumas!" Welcome to the club, pal
My first time beating Cynthia was through sheer fucking will and war of attrition. Super potions, full heal and revives all the way 😂
17:21 lol, She has been traumatizing Pokémon fans for 15 years now, welcome to the club
The protagonist energy is especially strong with this one. I hadn't felt as much fun with pokemon before I watched this moment on stream
I'm happy for Subaru, but I was tearing my hair out watching this... this is how parents feel screaming on the sidelines while their kids flail around on the baseball field, huh.
That was a great battle. :) Glad she got Justin into the Hall of Fame.
Man if Subaru was voice acting in a pokemon battle I feel like it would be so much fun to watch.
SUGOI, thanks for translating 👍
I haven't watched her playthrough at all but for a noob, she's impressive. Really good reasoning during the whole fight, really well played
"You can't be champion of the Pokemon league without knowing how to spam full restores!" - Lance
This is my favorite hololive pokemon clip, I wish this video always here forever, sometimes i come back here just to rewatch how epic this battle was, even though this is already 2,5 years after this clip uploaded
13:35 is it just me or does this sound like she was using the buruburu machine from the mikorone 24 stream? XD
man, it's been great following subau's Pokemon journey, it was legit cathartic to get to the end with her :) the shubenthusiasm and passion for story and immersion just makes you want to be along for the ride!
Shirona has been the run ender for many of my pokemon challenges - I was almost happy I didn't possess a switch when I heard of the remakes. Now though, I wish I had a switch and the games, so I could play along with the true protagonist of pokemon.
Subaru.
imagine Subaru playing gen 5. she would die at the last 2 bosses
She brings along Justin. She keep her promise
Excellent work, my dude!
Damn that must have been a lot of work.
I love that Subaru kept Justin in the final team and how excited she gets with Justin ^w^
“Looks at a milotic” THATS MOST DEFINITELY A DRAGON
Subaru's first champion battle was so much like mine. Long, painful, and very expensive. Thanks so much for translating all of it for us.
I want to be able to play the game so passionate like her... She really bonded with the game and pokemon unlike me just cleared the champion in 2 minutes coz it that easy
"Cynthia might become one of my traumas."
We'll see should she choose to ever stream Black & White and do postgame...
Subaru: "Cynthia might become one of my traumas."
Everyone: We understand your pain, duck.
BDSP Cynthia was made to restore Cynthia's reputation after a decade of people playing original D/P/Pt with guides. And it worked, although it'd be even more effective if her Spiritomb had some way to not be weak to Fairy (which didn't exist in original gen 4)
