What you need is education. Good quality free education. State mandated education with national tests to make sure everyone has a basic understanding of other cultures, of your history, of economics and of how the universe work. That's the first thing you need to do if you want to have a democracy. The second thing is to minimise corruption. I guess the US fail at both.

I am talking about education for children. We limit the freedom of children for a reason. Children are not mature enough to have that responsibility.
If you as an adult want to reject what you have been taught in school about nature and believe in crystal healing and astral energies etc you still can. If you as an adult read about anarchy on the internet and want to follow that philosophy a basic education won't stop you there neither, just make you less likely to believe in such nonsense.

this is what happens when you make education immensely expensive and these people are the ones who will be left behind but we do need to reach out to them.

this particularly troubling footage is just an echo of what most of us already knew, which is that palin's base don't support her and her policies but because they don't like the president. you can find this all over the place on the far right. they choose allegiances based on things they don't like rather than things that they do. the affordable care act is just the most recent of an impressive record of this kind of negative, belligerent politics; they oppose the law because they don't like it, not because they like something better, and they dont even have a substantive alternative, and they dont care to address this since it's not about a way they feel is better, it's about destroying a law they like as much as they like the president himself. they know they want to bring the current administration's ideas to an end, but have zero plan on where to go after that.

Man that interviewer comes off as being really smug and there is something hateful and mean about the way these interviews are edited. I must admit, the people do look dumb, but I'm not convinced that you couldn't pull this off with anybody's delegates.
You can't be smug when simply asking a question. If the interviewer seems to be smug, the best way to show him the error of his hubris is to answer the question correctly. They did not.

If you walk into an experiment like this with the intention of making these people look bad (I'm sure they did walk in that way) then you're probably assuming you're smarter than all the people you're questioning since you're doing it for the explicit purpose of making them look dumb. That is bound to come off as smug. You may think he's just being honest because perhaps this interviewer is smarter than all these people but we can't know that... we can only know how smart they are on one topic and even then only in a very limited fashion.

I'm a progressive, and I wondered the same thing. Could this sample be as representative as scientific polling? Putting people on the spot on camera is itself inherently emotional, and we viewers reacted emotionally to the unbelievable ignorance on display. If these people ARE representative, it explains why conservative policy and propaganda has become fact-free, and gets away with it.

"When you are right, you don't have to compromise." WTF!!!! So our founding fathers when drafting the American Constitution did not compromise? I guess they all got together and decided "Hey that sounds good, write that down too." Apparently this guy has never seen or read the amendments to the Constitution....that is what amendments are...basically compromises based on the original draft. This scares the hell out of me.

She's actually very clever (not well read or a decent politician) for turning a failed V.P. run into a multi-million dollar paycheck. I agree. She is lost without a prompter (President Obama uses one but is able to wing it without one). Interviews with even a half-assed reporter are a train wreck with her. She pays no attention to facts. That being said, she understands how to whip a crowd into a frenzy. She's able to read a far right crowd and say exactly what they want to hear, just like the snake oil salesmen of old. I give her credit for being able to make big money from where she started.
