Hey Steve! I want to get Hawley retainers because I don't like the Essix ones I was given after braces. My question is about the acryllic portion of the retainer. Does the acryllic make contact with the back of the teeth? If not, can the ortho put in a request to have the technician make the acryllic reach up far enough so that there is contact with the teeth? I ask this because I know my teeth are prone to backwards shifting. Sure the front wire will prevent forward movement, but it doesn't solve backwards movement. Hoping the acryllic can touch the back of the teeth, otherwise I might opt for permanent retainers. Thanks

Definitely talk to your Dr about your concerns. I'm sure they can tell the lab to make sure any teeth are in contact with acrylic.
