- It this episode we install the MHD Stage 2+ OTS tune on to the brilliant and very impressive BMW 1M Coupe. Now the 1M did leave the BMW factory with a slightly higher state of tune than the rest of the N54 gang, however we are really excited to see what new flash is like.
We install the flash using the MHD wifi dongle and newly release Iphone MHD app. However the process is the same for android devices.
Let us know if you think the stock downpipes are gonna be ok for the Stage 2+ tune.

Hi guys nice vid. Mine here in Kiwi-land has been a little WitchCrafted is running de-Cat full Milltek straight-through, massive front mount intercooler, two oil coolers, Mishimoto catch-cans & blow-off valve, Gruppe-M full carbon cold-air intake, forged-rods/pistons, charge pipe, tweeked fuel pump, SPEC race clutch, short-shifter, braided lines through-out for oil and brakes, fast-road pads and a few other bits and pieces on 255/35/20 & 285-30-20's on the rear and dropped by Eibach. Running a COBB Stage3 Aggressive tune with E85 fuel tuned You were calling your exhaust pops 'Burbles' or something? I was wondering what to call mine but Burbles wouldn't be appropriate because it sounds more like a Gattling-Gun shooting sledgehammers into rocks....she's pretty loud when on the GO button and the NO button.

Just a little thing which I’ve just come across that’s worth checking and has caused no end of issues with slow starting variable misfires and power issues is the ground cable on the passenger side near the starter was pretty knackered, my car is 2006 with only 61k, it was all frayed and split, replaced it and car starts like a champ and just generally runs so much better now and no fault codes or misfires! Might be worth a look!

Just an FYI, the E9x/E8x cars love to Dong repeatedly at you when you set Ignition to ON and you have the car door open. It'll stop as soon as you close the door or after 10-15 seconds on its own. A little bit of a nuisance.

It felt strong before, but the flash did make a big difference on top. Instantly turns it in to a naughty little muscle car.

Just ordered the dongle. Had the cable already but was afraid the long write times may cause an issue. Plus this lets me do monitoring more conveniently.

I'll tell you what the 1M certainly has that M car presence. As soon as it rolled in the driveway, it just looked special.
I am not sure if this is true of Aussie cars but in the states CAN bus was not mandatory until 2008, so early N54 cars used only K-Line for diagnostics. K-Line is much slower than CAN. This can also be a reason why the time can vary between cars for a full flash.
The WiFi dongle sure looks convenient. I have had my Cobb Access Port for years, but have been thinking about moving to MHD for a while now. Cobb support is basically dead while MHD is very active and has a few features Cobb doesn't offer.
It is strange how cobb did so much work in the early days and then left the platform.
It’s absolutely great took me just 4 minutes to flash mine then the maps are super fast. Love that 1M ....#unattainablegoals
I was under the impression that the burbled greatly reduced the lifetime of the turbos and they should be avoided at all cost.
@J B that is true. Plus. The sooner they blow the sooner you can upgrade them!
Hey love the videos! In your videos you’re monitoring your car while boosting. Can you make a video or a post on what are the most important gauges to monitor with our cars (N54) and what the numbers should roughly look like to know we are good? Thanks! I’m using MHD and I’m assuming most of us are. Thanks!
I personally keep an eye on AFRs, low fuel pressure and high fuel pressure. Then water temp. Water temp is just so i know when the engine is got a little bit of heat in to it i'll try not to rev the engine above idle until water temp is at least at 60c. The other guages it just depends what i am doing with the car. If i am beating on it a bit, i will loose water temp, and watch trans temps, both AFR banks and boost.
Aren't you supposed to have kittyless DP to flash the + maps?
High flow dp's are ok as well I believe

I can't believe u can flash ECU's with phones now, its mental😅 How safe is it though, should you still have the car tested and checked on a dyno?
It’s crazy how easy it is nowadays. These run wide band o2s and amazing knock detection. So as long as the person writing the file knows what he is doing and isn’t disabling the safety systems you are quite safe.
LOL the joys of flashing I was stuck at a remote gas station last week cause I thought I bricked my DME. Flash was successfull. However car would choke up when trying to start.After taking 10 mins to think and breath I realized I had the door opened during the flash.The car hates this ! closed the door reflashed and boom on my way I was with my E85 tune = ) at least on my 07 335i that's how it is .
Thats interesting that having the door open caused you problems. I think i nearly always flash with the door open. But will definitely keep that in mind.
Vrsf stepped ic and charge pipe made a difference in just stock Bmw Tune. 335is. Mhd next
Lol I never once hooked up my car to a charger because of how damn fast the wireless mhd flasher is but I was checking my voltage
A normal battery charger is not gonna save you if your battery is low, you need a power supply-type charger. Because those r quite expensive, people are using a normal chargers but the reason why all goes well with those is not thanks to charger, they just happened to have a good-enough battery in the car
First time I flashed my e90 it took several attempts as it kept crashing. The good news is it doesn’t brick the ecu and you can have as many attempts as you need but it becomes quite stressful to say the least. I ended up with jumper leads onto a running car and that was with a new battery. Apparently not all ecu’s are the same and not all phones are the same. I also has issues when xhp updated their app when they went to v3 and after a couple of emails to Clemens he updated the app to fix issues with my android phone. From then on I always wait a month after an update to give them time to sort the bugs out as they get tested on the millions of devices out there.
Its worth knowing an e92 sucks about 30 amps with the ignition on - so you need a strong charger to on the 1st long write with MHD
Did you run it on stock turbos? Just bought an n54 and has a couple of issues! I did see that mhd can tune the waste gate rattle so i might give it a shot. Do you think i should fix "misfires" and other annonomous codes before i try to do so?

Hi, can you include a link in the description on the wifi dongle connected to the obd2 port? Also i want to confirm that this 1M doesn't have jb4 connected inside the ecu box, correct?
Did you flash the 1M with the Beta V9.0 map? My 1M throttle becomes overly sensitive (sport mode) with the Beta V9.0. Didn’t like it and I’m back to the V8 map.
Did you try using Linear Throttle option?
YakuzaWAFD I didn’t try linear setting because the proper sensitivity is back when I flash the V8. I think it’s isolated in the V9 maps. Tried different V9 stages and same overly sensitive throttle.
V8 has loads of problems reported on the forums. Probably better to use V9 or 7.1 maps.
@@badakvt v9 same on my normal 335., a lot of people are saying that too. mhd said it is more aggressive. feels very weird always spooling so much like its just ready to take off hahaha
@@Saif0412 In my 335xi ver 8 is sooo smooth and works perfectly. With ver 7 I got vanos codes and it was overall more aggressive but ver 8 gives the power smoothly without codes so it depends

Engine will be fine running stage 2+ tune, but the turbo lifespan will be cut significantly. Like very significantly.
Have you guys ever had an mhd write failure before? Experienced a few back to back and luckily got it sorted with persistence and time however it was a scary experience 😅
Yes happened to me twice, when I was flashing between a custom map and MHD ots ones. Was scary for a few minutes,

Isnt a downpipe is recommended on a stage 2 map?
Yep you are supposed to have catless or at least high flow . Idk why they went stage 2+ but I heard the company told the owner it was fine . I know some other people who went stage 2 without downpipes too but you won’t get the full potential of the map
For the MHD Stage 1 or 2, if my car still have a few codes, would it affect it or car must not have any codes in order to flash it properly?
I'm so not into all this tech flashing maps. Isn't it not true that a good tuner & a rolling road would give a better, more reliable map?
To be honest these maps are tested on thousands and thousands of cars, so they are probably better tested than a custom map. Where the custom map benefit comes in is with tuning it more aggressively and getting more power. Lastly the DME's are so advanced with built in logging ability, the rolling road is no longer needed for tuning. But it is much safer, than driving the car at WOT.
My 1m has no speed limit and believed as techtec ecu tuned. Is it ok with the mhd flash?

I’m itching to do the flash on my 1m as well but I had an issue : when accelerating hard typically on the highway the car stuttered , Shaked. I did a coil and spark plug replacement and it stopped. But yesterday it happened again. Not as bad as before but still it did. What could this be? I did replace a fuel pump (not the hpfp). Cuz this be it? I have no idea what could cause this. Any ideas ? Recommendations ?
JB is on the money. You need to find some codes. You could also unlock the DME with MHD than use the standard tune with the MHD logging running to help identify the issue.

at first u applied stage 2+ then when doing the options, u did it for stage 2 lol so at the end it wrote 2 and not 2+

Are their any drawbacks to using beta maps? Or can you play it safe with Version 8?
The drawback is, its not finally tested. So you need to always installing them knowing you may have some issues, driveability etc. However you MUST also datalog and make sure nothing crazy is going on. That said you should probably data log on the non beta maps too.

Stage 2+ Without Downpipes?
MHD recommended it for the 1m with intercooler. To be fair the stock tune on the 1m felt like a stage 1 335i.

I cant remember but any mode is fine. MHD doesnt draw much current when it flashes.

@@jamessandalls242 I dont think so. If JB4 is on the canbus it blocks the MHD dongle from working. So in theory you could flash with MHD but not log. But it all gets a bit messy. A custom tune for MHD and JB4 would be the way to go.

I was using the cheap K&D can cable. It was like $15-$20.
Oh i am missing my car so much, suggested we change the DME he basically said fuck off, if you dont trust me come n pick it up. So I'm hoping he finds the issue, will be pretty funny if it ends up being the DME😐

Hopefully you can sell the tablet for close to what you paid. Then again i know one of my friends who had an android for MHD, has kept it, so he can leave the android doing monitoring and use his phone for music or other things. Basically kept the android purely for MHD stuff.
