9:51 Ink, it’s MAJOR Hassan and he’s not “the” leader of Al Qatala, the game literally says that he’s a MAJOR in the Quds force working with Al Qatala and the Cartel to get back at the US for assassinating GENERAL Ghorbrani at the beginning of the game 😅
Las Almas cartel is a powerful drug cartel that smuggles terrorist packages for terror groups across the Rio Grande into the USA. Sin Nombre said that as long as there’s a war on terror, the government would less likely take their war on drugs seriously there. And uses that tactic to assure Las Almas isn’t raided militarily by those that oppose the cartels presence. They’re not the territorial cartel of the bunch. As they’re not focused on territorial expansion. Only maintaining local peace. Like making Las Almas its own city state instead of being a part of Mexico as Vargas said it.

I like how Infinity Ward took inspiration from real world events not even a year after MW19 came out. The opening mission is a direct reference to the assassination of Qasam Solinamani in 2020, who was the general of the Quds force and allegedly had ties to terrorist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda, whom Al-Qatala was already based off of. General Ghorbani also striking resembles Solinamani Al-Qatala using SF equipment and American weapons and armor is a reference to when the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021 and seized all of the American weapons and vehicles left over. Also, this game sheds a lot of light on the Mexican Drug War and the corruption in the Mexican armed forces. Las Almas seems to be a representation of Sinola Cartel and Los Zetas. The latter of which has been accused of smuggling guns for terrorist groups.

AQ is more like an irregular group like Hizbollah and Major Hassan is an operative of Iran who assists them in their mutual interests. The Iranian Quds Force (IRGC-QF) has a real history of helping Hizbollah and Shia militias across the world against US/Israeli interests. The Ghorbani strike mirrored the Qassim Solemani strike in Iraq. Ghorbani was the leader of the IRGC-QF and was suppling missiles and aid to AQ. Qassim Solemani was going to Iraq to meet Iraqi PMF (Shia paramilitaries) hence his strike occurred just outside the Baghdad airport. CoD did a good job of holding up a mirror to recent events in respect to IRGC-QF. A major is typically a higher ranked field commander in charge of an element of 200-500 soldiers with a focus on particular operations while generals are big picture and control thousands of soldiers.
