    Since watching Kenneth's trip to Taiwan; I realized that the people of Taiwan are composed and patient. Observe how everyone calmly waits for the next train. It's like clock work; no pushing; screaming; or fighting. It just comes to show how efficient anything can be once everyone cooperates and works together.

    I saw this when I was there too! It's amazing how orderly they are. Taiwan and Japan are the only countries where I've seen it on this level. It must make a busy commute far more tolerable.

      That's somehow a problem for us... I remember how scared and annoyed I was when taking public transport in France and Italy... weird people (homeless or immigrants I don't know), dangerous or annoying teens, unreliable time tables... but still I have to act normal to prevent looking like a tourist. I've been to the USA once, but I remember everything to be big, new, clean, and fresh.

    ActionKid what you need to do is film the Taipei City hall station like that on New Year's day when the fireworks end.
    EDIT: It's also better you if stand closer the the down escalator where people will be transferring to the Wenhu line and the platform will be more crowded.

    what's the headway during rush hour compared to off peak? it seemed like a more or less 3min interval. Wonder if you could increase that by 30s. Is there a documentary with English subtitles about the Taipei Metro? I've seen lots from Japan but I find Taiwan more interesting as it's a "hidden gem".

    The Bx 55 bus in the Bronx had loaders at 149th street to do the same thing, for buses. I think if MTA had the barriers in the train stations, loaders in each station would work. Problem is, it cost money to build them in each station system wide, and that would mean a cost to tax payers, and fares may increase. It probably should have been done a long time ago, when it could have been cheaper to do

    This isn't peak rush hour as the platform is only half full with people. I recommend filming around 6pm. Or I could film it.

    Seeing that, there could have been possibly more trains ran to help. I skipped through and found the average frequency was 4 to 5 minutes which can be up to about 2.5 minutes before buckling.

    A train comes about every 2 minutes, as opposed to random minutes compared to MTA.
    You see how people stop stuffing into train once it's full? Good luck getting that in NYC

    • @garyysu

      Good and keen observation. During rush hours, Taipei MRT train runs every one to three minutes. It is one of the MRT's strategies to calm people down if they know the next train will arrive in 1 to 3 minutes. You can also watch the LCD screen (spaced every 2 - 4 boarding gates at busy stations) to see when the next train will arrive. Every train is tracked by the computer to the exact arrival and departure times at every station according to the designed schedule. Any deviation, with built-in tolerance, from punctuality will be recorded by the computer and flashed at the control center which must take immediate action according to one of the hundreds of SOP's (standard Operating procedure) developed over the years by the Taipei MRT. Elementary schools in Taipei and New Taipei City (all schools in Taiwan actually) also help by teaching young kids the etiquette of queueing up, not taking priority seat, giving up regular seat to those in need, etc.

    • @TechExploresNYC
      @TechExploresNYC 4 роки тому +1

      @@garyysu we have that in NYC too, except the LCD board just says 5 minutes for the last 30 minutes and sometimes just give up and says DELAY. Not to mention our system has signal problems as often as.... Every other day.

    • @garyysu
      @garyysu 4 роки тому +2

      @Kevin's Tech, and Tours I used to live in NYC for more than 10 years. I don't remember ever checking the LCD screens. I don't even recall seeing the LCD screens. I guess I succumbed to the random arrival of MTA trains. When I lived in Taipei, I never checked the screen during rush hours because I knew the trains would come frequently. Occasionally I would check the screen outside of rush hours to see when the next train would arrive, usually not more than 5 minutes on my regular lines.
