Brings back memories...of seeing my idol Mike in person for the first time - up till then he had notoriously been a recluse and of course it was way before the internet! - at the Royal Festival Hall on the Tour of Europe (just looked it up, apparently it was April 21st 1979)...Tubular Bells had been more or less the same as the album (well, at least recognisable)...but this section was way different, and Mike was actually wigging out live on stage! ...but enough memories, fantastic cover Rob, keep'em coming!
Thank you and that is such a cool anecdote. It must have been thrilling for a fan after the long hiatus. In bootlegs from the 5th and the 26th you hear the two different arrangements, I don't know of any between those dates but it seems they were already developing this one when you saw them.
Congratulations for this exceptional interpretation!!!! You've got perfectly the unique Oldfield's guitar style on this marvellous solo. This is the piece of music which touched my soul and made me Oldfield's fan for the rest of my life since late 70's. Regards and a Big hug from Madrid.
I had one before, but sold it again(with no regrets). It's a great guitar in design, but Gibson made it too thin(body size).I own now a Höfner S 5 PA,a guitar very familiar with a L 6s de Luxe, but a little thicker body, all mahogany but very rare. Did you know, that Prince played a Gibson L6-s de Luxe in his early days, before he got his Hohner Mad Cat?
Thanks for your "cover version",you nailed it very well,in sound and feel. I heard this the first time live,at a concert in 1979 in Den Haag, the Netherlands and loved it right away. That was also the night,i fell in love, with a Gibson L6-s de Luxe, to get that guitar sound(but it just starts in your fingers, you realise later),owned one years ago,but sold it again(with no regrets):have a Höfner S 5 PA,very simular to a L6,but slightly thicker body and all mahogany. Did you know what Carlos Santana, Prince and Mike Oldfield have in commen? They all played a Gibson L6-s de Luxe and that's quite typical. I presume that Mike Oldfield also had an influence on Prince:recording all parts himself, very powerfull guitar soloing and i think Prince knew the music of Mike,by the movie "the Exorcist".
Thank you. The S5PA sure is beautiful. Glenn Phillips was another one to make good use of the L6-S Deluxe though his is not quite so recognisable! ua-cam.com/video/r4PUnrnxS3c/v-deo.html
Outstanding!!!! I absolutely love this tubular bells part 2 version and the way you played it....really really close as Mike played it. As an electric guitar student, I wonder if it would be possible for you to provide me with the backtrack for this song. Or even a tablature if you had one. I can't imagine myself being able to play this Mike's masterpiece. Thank you for the time you spent putting together this version.
Thanks for the kind comments! Will think about a nice way to share the accompaniment. In the meantime there is an excellent tab on Soundslice by a very clever chap and you can play along with midi or video. Really great. www.soundslice.com/slices/gQcfc/
Brilliant, when I first heard this on Exposed I loved it and thought it was a new piece of music but realised later it was ambient Guitars from TB but it doesn't sound anything like it really?.
EQ is an important part of Mike's guitar sound. The guitars on Exposed have an understated chorus effect which is really beautiful. I didn't quite nail the elegance of it yet but I will have another go at Exposed later.
By request the accompaniment track for the pleasure of guitarists can be found here:

This is one of the moments without doubt where you can see that Mike is a incredible composer and a Guitar God.
The best Part of Album Exposed. Great work, Great Cover!
Great cover, and yet more evidence that Mike Oldfield is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, his playing, tone, style, vibrato are all unique.
Thank you. Yes his style is certainly unique and full of gems.
Goosebumps....you nailed it! One of the most beautiful solo's Oldfield has ever done!
Thank you!
That tone is a beast!
Great job.
Mike is one of the few guitarists that can play up high without sounding corny.
Thank you!
Oh boy, absolutely brilliant and played with the heart.❤
Thanks for these memorable minutes. I"ll be back from time to time.
Thank you that is a wonderful compliment and I will be back too.

What a magnificent composition. Mike Oldfield : the Bach of progressive rock.
In fact he created significantly more brilliant original melodies and compositions than Bach.
@@IWasDaveMcKeegansLapdog I wouldn't go that far but...I am with you.
Fantàstic
Thank you!

It sure does sound fresh but the chord progression is the same. You could play this solo over the original backing or vice versa.
Esta versión sale en un concierto de mike olfield donde volavan aviones de papel
Yes!
Where's the sailors hornpipe?that was so sweet! Thank you!
Thank you. I'm not sure if I could keep up with Mike's Sailor's Hornpipe!
Almost reminds me of a Bach toccata. That good.
Has anyone has made any Guitar Rig presets for Mike's sounds?
Excellent ! How do you have this fantastique sound ? What amp and effects do you utilise plèbes?
Thanks! I have added some notes about the guitar sound to the description.
how on EARTH did you get that tone??!

@@glorfindelbox could've fooled me! Sounds like I need to invest in a decent EQ pedal!
Qué combinación de pedales utilizas?
Hi, I have added some notes about the guitar sound to the video description.
How did you get his distorted sound?
I used Blue Cat 's Destructor for the distortion.
@@glorfindelbox Beautiful! I'm gonna go try it myself lol
