I loved this video. I'm growing artichokes for the first time this year. So sound like me talking about my vegetable plants. You would think they are my children,
Have fun with your plant. They're lovely. They have very nice shape and flowers. Usually they died down after flowering, so this year I will harvest the flowers for use before they bloom.vthis will help it grow stronger. I've collected so many seeds and have started a dozen more babies. They will be popping up around my garden more in the future.
Nice ‘chokes Melanie! We have 3 productive plants but NOT from seeds. Mrs. Gogogordy is impressed with yours. Also we have 45 day cabbage (which actually took longer! But worth the wait)
Jeanie, I do not divide them. They supposed to be around 5'x5' and I like that size. This year after the the flowers are done, my plants lost all the leaves. The roots are still good and sending out new shoots, but it was so weird that they lost their leaves. This is my first time experiencing this.
PS Tsai, the older the leave the bitter it is so add a leaf or and adjust water to help with the bitterness. I usually would just add some fresh leaves (or dried) and let it simmer for a few minutes. It doesn't take long for the color to change and drink as is. Growing up eating bitter melons and drinking bitter tea are part of my diet, so bitterness of this doesn't bother me much. One's tolerance might be different thank another. I often add pandan leaves at the last couple minutes to give it a better aroma.
@@fishsaucemama I tried it this morning without pandan first, wow, it was bitter. I do eat bitter melon. Then I added a few pandan leave, didn't noticed much difference yet, I probably need to add more pandan leave. I Google Artichoke leave tea. It's popular in Vietnam and sell it as tea bag. Using different percentage the leaves, steam and the root to make the tea, it has sweet taste. 😁 Maybe because my leaves are older, so bitter just like you state. Have you tried the tender leave for the tea?
I'm going to try, thanks!
You are welcome!
Just planted 4 that I grew from seed. So happy that I can transplant them because they are right in the same bed as my peas right now. LOL
Thanks for sharing!!
You're welcome

Thanks!. Everything homegrown is worth the wait for me ☺.
I like it 👍
I'm in 7B also and want to grow artichokes, as they are my favorite vegetables! How long does it take before harvest?
It took 2 years for mine to flowered. The plants got bigger every year and more flowers every year
So do you divide them like irises? So cool that they are perennial in your zone. Probably in mine too. (Zone 8b)

Is it too late to start them in may zone 7b?
I just planted some seeds yesterday. I don't think it's too late. They won't flower this year.
Wow such an instructive video😃
Would you sell any of the pups?
Thankd!
LOL. No I don't sell them
I got seeds from ebay and they sprout and grow very fast.
I was trying it work good for cholesterol
How do you make the tea from the leave? Do you add other ingredients like ginger? How long did you boil it?

@@fishsaucemama thank you very much for info. I'll try it. I have pandan leave too, try original first then add pandan. 😀
Love to hear your feedback on how you like your artichoke tea.
