Honda e is design genius. They've taken the complete piss and it looks amazing. How can you reinvent the wing mirror but have that Austin Maestro interior and brown seatbelts. Sinead said it exactly, its like the 80s vision of the future. Its like the automotive answer to synthwave. If I were rich and had a teenager I would buy them it for their first car.

I love the Honda, reminds me of like a 1980s Civic or CRX design wise

As someone said the Honda E is like the first iPhone, totally unique and game changing. Love it and have had mine now for two weeks, fantastic and yes not cheap but has loads of stuff like self parking which is an expensive extra for some top end cars.

Sinead is absolutely spot on when she said Honda nailed the retro but future look without making a mess! 100% agree. I doubt there is any car electric or non that does it so cleanly.

He is bang on about the feeling of the Honda E, I took one for a test drive and it left me with a feeling I haven't had since my first cat, just loved it!

My Wife and I own a '22 Mini SE. If only Honda would have deigned to bring the E to the US, we would have held off and gotten that. Love the Mini SE, love the Honda E even more. It's like my dad's old 80's Manual 2 door Honda Accord Hatch. Not all Americans suckle on the 'bigger is better' teat! Great video and review, makes me want to get back to Ireland again soon.

Great Vid! I live in the Southside of Glasgow, and commute into the centre of the City for work, furtherest friends live in Troon (about 30 miles 1-way) but the design alone is such a joy to look at and would put up with the wee battery. Very niche but compared to the VW eUp, Mini e and Zoe, I think I still get drawn to the Honda e.

So the Mini is cheaper, faster and has more range than the Honda. You’ll easily be getting 2km per 1% of the battery. I use the Mini electric for automatic driving lessons and easily get over 120 miles per charge and road tripping is a breeze and doesn’t need that much planning.

6:02 Ok, I have to ask this because every review keeps repeating the "benefit" of a small battery being that it charges to full faster and that doesn't make sense to me.
If batteries charged linearly (which they don't), charging a 35 kWh battery to full would take the same amount of time as charging a 70 kWh battery to 50%. Negating the weight difference, they would at that point have the same range and be equal in terms of time you had to wait for it to charge 35 kWh.
But, batteries charge faster the closer they are to being empty. So by the time the smaller battery approaches being full, the larger battery is approaching being half full. So the larger battery would get to 50% faster than the smaller one to 100% (or 40% vs 80%).
So my conclusion of the statement "a benefit of a smaller battery is that it charges faster to full" is purely for peace of mind of it being full and there is no practical benefit but rather a downside.
    Am I missing something?

The most important thing is to get the right size battery for your purpose. If you you need to squeeze a bit more range, pop in for a 10 min 50kw charge. The mpge tends to be higher on lighter cars with smaller batteries. These cars make sense if you have have daily access to AC charger at home or work, especially if your commute is back roads.

The Honda is such a great design, but crikey its expensive, however it wins as the perfect city EV. Honestly though, I'd need a lot of drugs to drive down the street with Union Flag tail lights and don't do drugs kids. Great test.

Target audience for these would seem to be those who want a runaround second car.

I've had an SE for 2 years and have never got less than 220km range. I even manage to (just) get home from a 220km trip on 110kph roads. I live in a warm climate, so maybe that makes it more efficient. The GOM (guess 'o' meter) has never read more than 180km range, which shows how utterly useless it is. Never EVER trust the GOM. You need to look at battery percent to get accurate range. After the first few weeks, the MINI has never left sports mode :) So much fun. Interestingly, the MINI is lighter, cheaper, faster, more efficient, better range, better handling. The honda has bling and a great turning circle. If you want a better car (ie drivers car), there is no way the honda comes close. If you want an accessory - and I don't mean this in a bad way - just to get from A to B in town comfortably, then the honda fits the bill.

    Thanks. Really enjoyed that comparison.
Driving dynamics are #1 for me, so I could probably make the Mini work (just). The 500 cannot be driven by a male (shame) and they took the e-up off sale (which I was serious about), so I got a Fiesta, obviously! Thanks again

Do what now? The Mini Electric Collection is €45,500 in Ireland? Isn't the factory the next country over? O_o Here in America, the Electric Collection is $36,650 US ($4000 for Signature Plus trim [equivalent to your Level 2] + $2750 for Electric Collection package) + $850 destination charge (mandatory delivery fee all new cars are charged) for a total cost of $37,500. And we get a $7500 Federal tax credit so it comes to $30k. Much cheaper in America. I ordered one myself last week and hopefully she'll be delivered early 2022 👌

It seems the range in a petrol vehicle is not far off in real world driving at least in the U.S. but electric range is never accurate outside fantasy land.

Hey guys, on a different subject, I’m trying to decide between a Peugeot 508 GT 1.5 hdi or a Mercedes CLA 180d for my next company car. What’s your expert advice? 😁

      They are so different. A non-premium d-segment car vs a premium b-segment.
I personally would pick 508 for it’s much better space in the cabin.

People buying these cars are like those using the Beta version of a new operating system, looks good but needs a lot of tweaks before the rest of us will commit.

  • @stevencampbell1150

Great reviews and whilst I know that they are city cars, the price of both are hideous plus what use is a car that burns through its chosen fuel at 120km/h. I know all electric cars are apparently like that but that is what and where they ultimately fall down plus the range even for city cars the range is rubbish.

The creators of the sci-fi series “Star Trek” couldn’t possibly imagine what life would really be like 55 yrs. after it first aired. I still think vehicles powered by dilithium crystals would be more environmentally friendly and efficient than electricity.
