    Using SSd's on LSI 9200-16e is a bad idea, since it does not support SSD Trim, and the controller SAS2008 is too slow for SSD IOPS and datarate. You will also be limited to half speed, throughput on the PCI-e 2.0 x8 bus. (bus is approx. 4gigabyte/s bandwidth, and 16x6gbit sata is 12GB/s for the data links, and about 16*600MB/s = 9.6GB/s Data rate to the ssds
    Better go with LSI 9207 or 93xx series cards to get PCI-e 3.0 and SSD trim support,

      Agreed!!! I have been recommending the 9200-16e for many 3.5" hard drives but not the ssds -- pinned this comment. I just caught my mistake in the video.

      After watching numerous video my questions as follow before jumping investing and farming chia.
      1. Once plots created you keep them in the HDD and store them away physically?
      2. The cost to run this 24/7? Any breakdowns on this say AVG per week/month
      3. I guess it need to be online 24/7 to creating plot and later stage farming chia
      4. Will windows 10 home be ok for say 20 plots or window server required?
      5. WIN VS MAC, Linux etc which of these system is most beneficial for chia plot/farm
      6. Do you need to tweak and get it running or is an easy click and install thing?
      7. Before starting this farming I can assume you need a wallet to store the chia or it will be uploaded to Thier server?
      Sorry for all these basic question, since you are a genius and more knowledgeable than me I reach out to you

    • @SlothTechTV
      @SlothTechTV  3 роки тому +1

      it really depends on the HBA you use to connect the drives. each drive is technically limited to 6gbits/s .. combined the available throughput will be added together.. so 2x6gbps =12gbps. This works as long as your HBA can handle those speeds.

    Yes, but most ISP's will rate limit any Tx over 1TB per month on a residential connection unless you upgrade to a business account, if you want to sell plots you'll need to factor that cost in, or collocation which would be the more sensible option without farming as that would be an expensive waste of rack-space.

    • @SlothTechTV
      @SlothTechTV  3 роки тому +1

      The C612 boards have PCIe Gen 3... The gen 4 drives can be used, they won't operate at gen 4 speeds.. but honestly they barely hit speeds that make gen 4 worth it anyway as is... not to mention the fact that CHIA doesn't actually utilize gen 4 speeds because it doesn't move data that quickly even if the drive can.

I’m also running to separate plots on the separate drives. It is definitely using a lot of my processing power. What can I be possibly doing wrong? Also if my wallet is not in sync is that a problem? It’s on sync on one of my computer so I have 15 computers all plotting but the best I’m getting out of most of them are an average of two plots per day.

    Hey man, how about RAM speed? Have you found any significant difference of using faster ram? I am currently plotting on 2TB Samsung NVME with a i9 11900k and 32Gb RAM. I currently assign 3,900 RAM and one core, so doing 8 Plots at a time. Do you think if I add some extra RAM to be able to assign 5,000 per each plot will make a ton of difference? Also, at this point, staggered at 60min seems to work fine, however I did not really time measured and I don't know if I am doing the best in terms of productivity.

    Great video! I have some questions
    1 - In terms of *storing* the plots (the permanent drive farming process), would it be fine to use HDDs since they're cheaper and can hold more? I'm unsure where we'll store this since the 2TB Samsung SSD's are for the temp drive process. I didn't quite understand.
    2- Will an e7 8890 18 LGA 2011-1 be able to sustain all of this?
    I just want to be able to get the processor and SSD/Hard Drives quickly before everything gets sold out! And then I can take my time getting the less demand products. Thanks!

    I just got into chia bought a single 3 tb and uh....I get about a plot a day. I do have ssds, but given my relatively low income, a cheap 3 tb HDD was my foot in the door. I currently have about 1.2 tb filled up.... I plan on buying like a used i5 laptap, attaching either a NAS or a Docking station, and just farm in the closet.

    Nice video! I always get confused by this, but how can you hit 40 plots a day when you are starting a plot every hour? Cause at 19-20 plots on a 1hr stagger you'll only have your all those plots start in 19-20hrs meaning you'll only be starting a plot every hour in a 24 hour day. Are you starting multiple plots at the same time every hour?

    • @SlothTechTV
      @SlothTechTV  3 роки тому +3

      That is a REALLY good question and I actually appreciate you asking it. You are absolutely right with the math you did above. but lets say I have 2 sets of drives in a raid 0 -- so 2 plots will start at the same time one for each raid 0 with a 60min stagger that means in 24 hours it *could* be capable of 48 plots, but realistically the machine can't do the ~24 that could be running all at once if they each took 12 hours, so I would have global limits of say "no more than 20 plots at once" to keep it from bombarding the CPU with interrupts. It can get a bit more complicated than this with phase and minor phase tuning but I hope thats a decent explanation.
      Its a balance of setting how many can be in Phase 1 at the same time
      A global limit of concurrent plots
      Total stagger time

      @@SlothTechTV So what is your temp space layout for hitting 40 plots? Are you saying you have two raid-0s with each raid having 2x2TB? So a total of 4 TB of temp space? I'm just trying to get an idea of how much temp space we would need for this sort of build. I just imagine that becoming a bottleneck real fast if its any less that 4 TB.

    • @SlothTechTV
      @SlothTechTV  3 роки тому +3

      @@dynizzle3166 At peak while doing 20 plots at a time (with proper stager and delay between phase 1 and phase 2) youre looking at somewhere between 149-180GB per plot .. with the right stagger you can get this closer to 150GB per plot, but these numbers are hard to summarize as there are a lot of factors and it really comes down to how well you balance the concurrent plots. (great question btw)

Are they just plug and play, or do I need to upgrade parts to mine that rough figure you mentioned $6800/month (it's probably more now since chia is soo much higher)? thanks for the info, keep it up cause your making it happen for all of us we owe you.
