Pyroloysis oil may be a good alternative. Pyrolosis oil is created when plastic waste (including non-recyclable things like chip bags and car tires) is heated to high temperatures in an oxygen-free environment. This process reverts the plastic waste back to the main components of crude oil, and produces enough short-chain gaseous hydrocarbons to be fully self-sufficient. We would still be using petroleum, but we wouldn't have to drill for it and we would be reducing plastic waste too.

You do understand that the petroleum used in cosmetics is a very small percentage of the whole, right? If we quit them today, we would still not make a dent. I see more problems with the related packaging (and natural cosmetics have the same issue, all in plastic containers). Its not as difficult as you might think to find clothing made from natural materials, maybe with some of the big box and discount stores like Walmart or Ross, but its definitely more tedious since you usually can't tell just from touch if that's what you mean. Even clothing from the same brand. Cotton at least does have a worse footprint than plastic for relatively short term use, but is also a much sturdier material that can actually hold up to washing. I use a Sri Lankan Sinhala Ayurvedic medicine to make my own scrub. Ingredients, red sandalwood powder, white sandalwood powder, venivalgata powder, kasthuri kaha (turmeric) powder in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Just mix them and store in an airtight container and use a spoon to take the necessary amount for daily use. Please make sure that the powder remains dry so use dry hands and dry spoons as there is no preservative and you cannot store wet powder for long. Amazing scrub. Use 2 times a week as a scrub use everyday as a face wash & pack without scrubbing. Just wash your face with water then pat the powder onto your face with fingertips and gently massage for face wash and leave on for 5 minutes as a pack, then wash off. For scrub do the above and before washing off scrub face, neck or body. The medicinal powder has anti-microbial (anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal) properties so protects your skin from diseases. Also gives a lovely yellow golden glow on skin from the turmeric and red sandalwood afterwards (specially for darker skin tones like mine. I do not know whether it might give a yellow colour tinge to your skin if used on fair skin. But it's temporary and harmless). Only please check for allergies before use and when using on skin with pimples and acne do not scrub or rub or massage, just pat on.
I really didn't know until my late 20s that vaseline is actually a byproduct of the oil industry. I actually used to think that it was made of animal fats.

We use the 1source platform to check and filter products with toxic chemicals. They reveal chemical safety with info from renowned and trustable organizations.
Yeah, it’s gonna be incredibly hard for me to find a sulfate shampoo without those hormone disrupting chemicals, sulfates are the only thing that actually get my hair clean 😭
True. Like, my experiences from green products is that they either don't do anything or just outright irritate my skin. Can't forget that time where a non-toxic, clean, vegan face set (toner, moisturizer, serum, acne spot corrector) gave me cystic acne (like a lot of them, and I'm still recovering from the scars on my face) after 6 years of not having it 😩 Until there's some damning evidence that petrolatum and other petrochemicals are corrosive, carcinogenic, or toxic, I won't be guilt-tripped into switching products that my skin hates.
0:03 no i definitely do NOT, and neither should anyone else have to use fossil fuel-containing cosmetics, I don't use any cosmetics AT ALL and neither do most people I know, I like this channel but that intro whoever decided it, not assuming its who is shown unlike you guys assuming "and you do it too" that's horribly worded, well to be fair its the first time i had a major problem with something I've seen on the channel
to clarify i do use toothpaste, and soap of course but when talking about "cosmetics" its everything that's "non-necessary" and in 2022 id say soap and toothpaste are necessary
@@elismart13 This channel is a good example of green extremist. Anything related to fossil fuels is bad. Maybe they should just recommend humanity going back to living in caves and everything will be green again once more.
Then they weren’t talking to you and just to another viewer, obviously not everyone uses that amount, most guys don’t use that much and some people even use way more products
Hi, thank you for your question! 👏 "Dermatologically tested" itself does not say anything about whether the product contains petroleum. In fact, many dermatologists swear by the name petrolatum.
i don't use any type of cosmetics, like, i wake up and then if my hair is messy enough i tie it, wash my teeth with just water and i'm done, only if it's necessary i wash my face, so uhm, that explains a lot
So why are they still using this in products when it isn’t vital that it’s added? Why nobody warning people of the cancer risks in products also?? All by design, they don’t want to fully inform us as it’s cheaper than alternatives…..
Well on the other hand youtube is full of videos making natural ingredients in products look discusting just because it comes from some animal's body part or just not sounding poetic enough. And plants ... well lot of them can be quite irritating to many people. So what else do you want to put on your face? :D
I could be wrong but shea moisture their stuff shampoos, conditioners and body washes don’t have any toxic chemicals or ingredients. I used to use it a lot on my hair it’s really good for people who have curly/ wavy hair as it’s catered towards their needs and what their hair needs. Maui moisture as well that’s really good! But both are really expensive that’s the downside. But do your research I used to be very careful about what I would put on my body and hair because it’s important to know these things and properly take care of them I still do but not to the extent that I use to 🤣 I was low- key obsessed with what ingredients I was putting on my hair and body to a point I would stand in the shop for over an hour analysing all of the ingredients because I wanted to make sure it was catered towards my needs which is a good thing as you are paying for it so you should only put your money towards something that will benefit you and your needs in my opinion that’s how it should be. Also, raw coconut oil there’s so many so read up on the ingredients so it meets your needs but if you want your hair to grow or repair damage so if you have heat damage or colour damage from dying / bleaching it raw coconut oil helps with that especially hair growth, helps your skin so much especially if you have sensitive or dry skin, if you shave and needs something to calm down your skin coconut oil is the best I’ve been using this since I was like 12 years old to this day lol for everything the gym, eating healthier, my skin etc. don’t put it on your face tho your pores will get blocked also makes you smell so good a great base for perfumes to layer up the notes and lastly makes your skin look so glowy and healthy especially in the summer I always use it. It’s the best! But yeah those brands I think are worth investing in if you don’t want to put that stuff on your body and hair. You can also get 100% natural or organic things. So instead of putting on cream on your body you could use 100% raw virgin coconut oil for your body I did that for a while and when I tell you that was way better than any body cream. Makes your body look unreal, so soft it’s unreal, if you have any discolouration on your skin that you want to even out that will definitely help with that (discolouration on your face and body is completely normal btw nothing to be ashamed about) and it’s 100% natural the virgin coconut oil tho. You can also eat it as well I used to put it in my food and smoothies when I used to work out it really made me feel happier and improved my mood from what I can remember. It has so many natural benefits good for both your external body and your internal which is just as important. I wouldn’t recommend putting coconut oil on your face as it blocks your pores causing more acne. Natural ingredients like they mention here it’s not always going to be “natural” that’s why you need to read the label first. But downside to that is the price yeah it’s expensive so ultimately it’s your choice. But it’s true what they are saying make- up the ingredients in it a majority of them have got that in them it’s very harmful to your face so please be careful that’s why I don’t wear make- up anymore cos I don’t want my skin to absorb all of those toxic ingredients. But that was a personal decision on my part. If you like makeup than wear makeup 👍🏽 if you don’t like makeup than easy answer here is don’t wear makeup but ultimately it’s your choice 👍🏽 do what’s best for you. Please who wear make- up they look beautiful and people who don’t wear make- up they also look beautiful no one is better than anyone. But just be careful with what you’re putting on your face, body and hair cos these companies, social media will have you thinking you need things and that these ingredients they put in these products are healthy and normal. I’m here to tell all of you it’s far from good. In fact it’s terrible! But these companies will not tell you that because they want the rich to get more richer and the poor to get more poorer but they won’t admit to you so be mindful 🤷🏽♀️
7:11 You are using data seems to create wrong notion. The amount of petro chemical we use in the form of self-care products is miniscule compared to "OIL" as fuel.
Greener alternatives can't sustain bigger cities. The reason why fossil was sought for in the first place is because green energy depletes faster since it depends on a natural resource (e.g. water, wind, sun, geothermal sources) You'd be better off living in the Amazon without any form of technology if you want the greenest life.
Can we just appreciate how efficiently our universe has created greedy humans that even now think about how and act to increase growth in the petroleum industry?

Haa, as a homebody who bathes infrequently and never wears make-up, I can say I'm like this to help the environment😅 And I really am an environmentalist!🌎
Same. Toothpaste and soap. Everything else is a luxury or medication (yes, guilty on several counts there)
@@anandsharma7430 Not really a luxury for some of us, i too have to use many different products because of a genetic skin condition, otherwise it dries and turns red and becomes itchy as hell and it's a nightmare. And they're super expensive :( I hope the healthy humans realize how lucky they are if they can just use 1 soap and be done with it lol
@@ADCFproductions I have dermatitis and eczema so I feel you. I think they meant to use just the basic that you need. For instance I do not use make up at all, it’s not even good for my skin conditions. But I’ll use anything else that helps my skin feel better. I see it as medication though
I don't wear make up either. Only vegan mascara, hand made eyeliner. Occasionally cruelty-free eyeshadow.
The alternatives offered in this video aren't necessarly better for humans, just for the environement.
Labelling one category as chemicals doesn't help, they are all chemicals
Petrochemicals are are specifically chemical products derived from petroleum
@@CjqNslXUcM
From the video: cosmetics can be based from water, animals, plants or chemicals. It would have been great to say petrochemicals, but that's not what they say
definition for 'chemical' is a distinct COMPOUND or substance which has been ARTIFICIALLY prepared (man-made)
@@techcafe0 what's the source of that definition. Nor Wikipedia or Merriam-Webster, as commonly used, have that definition
great work!
I am the true man. Who uses only a Soap😂😂😂
This video deserves all the views. Well done.
I even watch this video with a device made of petrochemical. What can I even do?
I've skin issues and got swollen and even burned by 'natural' or greener options. Unfortunately, 'll be sticking to vaseline before I can find something that really works for me. For now I avoid driving as much as I can, do not eat meat and try to shop second-hand. We do what we can.
Same. "Organic" and "natural" products irritate my skin, my scalp, and organic hair products make my hair dry. I'll be sticking to those petrochemicals. So far there isn't enough damning evidence that makes it carcinogenic or toxic to humans.
All this knowledge is not gonna make much difference if the major polluters (harmful fishing practices, lack of public transportation, and private jets for celebrities etc) are not gonna budge.
Just don’t wear makeup. You’ll be fine; I promise. I don’t use any cosmetics and my soaps are 100% non-petrochemicals. My shampoo and conditioners are bars with no packaging and I re-fill the liquid soap containers the best I can (the containers are 100% recycled and recyclable).
Great documentary, not enough people are aware of this.
Would love to have another deep dive into the toxic chemicals in cosmetic products.
Less population, better sustainability
Hi, we have also made a video called "Is overpopulation really a problem for the planet?" that you can watch here: ua-cam.com/video/kUL-q7ptDW4/v-deo.html. 🌍🌎🌏
Brilliant work and perfect presentation, Aditi. Thank you and keep it coming. I really love your solution based content.
And how much plastic is all that stuf! I've stopped buying wash gels years ago and now I use mainly plant oil based hard soaps that come in paper boxes...
I hope we also see a difference in packaging and corporations like estee Lauder finally go cruelty free.
there's an even better option: just don't slather your face with makeup in the first place. the vast majority of people look better without, anyway.
Fantastic job in this peice to educate me. Thank you. I didn't know there are numerous petro derivatives in hygiene/cosmetics. I do see those words on products and im going to refrain from buying future products if they have petro derivatives in them. You are making the difference!
Thanks for such informative video...
Awesome little doco
Someday we will have to realize we don't need cosmetics or beauty products as much as we need our planet!
This was a great video. It really opened my eyes to the beauty side of oil.
Lets go Green Chemistry!
Also products not tested on animals tend to be much better most of the time. I've been supporting cruelty-free or vegan products & have never had issues.
Please list publicly the brands,thanks
The long lasting one is called "LAST", which I just looked up and right now they are only shipping to France. 😒 However, they plan on expanding over the next few years. Products look pretty good so far.
More people need to know about this!
You know what's funny? A lot of renewable relies on petrol too
If the use is so widespread what are the alternatives?
Great work Aditi 🎉
Why am I watching this before imma about to put this junk on my face 🤣
Brilliant video, keep going
Thankyou DW for this amazing info.
Could you make document about ocean thermal energy. Cause I heared that it will give 24/7 energy. Fascinating! But I never heard of it until today.
Hi, thank you for your suggestion! For the moment, you can watch our videos on wave power 🌊 : ua-cam.com/video/UUlA5WKDiww/v-deo.html and on tidal energy 💧: ua-cam.com/video/1-2TyKqP84o/v-deo.html. Let us know what your thoughts are on these in the comments. 🌞
Very informative video again 👏 but The TRUTH is such videos can change nothing until government are willing to change.
Hemp Oil is the best alternative
We use the 1source platform to check and filter products with toxic chemicals. They reveal chemical safety with info from renowned and trustable organizations.
nah I don't use any
Very informative
Thanks DW for this news
But these are the products that work 😩 the alternatives are always not nearly as good unfortunately
Ultra Informative video
I don't even use toothpaste...I use neem datwan
@@elismart13 This channel is a good example of green extremist. Anything related to fossil fuels is bad. Maybe they should just recommend humanity going back to living in caves and everything will be green again once more.
Then they weren’t talking to you and just to another viewer, obviously not everyone uses that amount, most guys don’t use that much and some people even use way more products
How about the products that have Dermatologists tested? Otherwise well-done awareness is good thing👍 .
Hi, thank you for your question! 👏 "Dermatologically tested" itself does not say anything about whether the product contains petroleum. In fact, many dermatologists swear by the name petrolatum.
@@DWPlanetA thanks for the clarification
9:57 I support her.
It's okay I don't mind dying
0:52 Ah yes, the blood of virgins 😂 maybe we should use that again as a green alternative?
Interesting and educational definitely learned something new
i don't use any type of cosmetics, like, i wake up and then if my hair is messy enough i tie it, wash my teeth with just water and i'm done, only if it's necessary i wash my face, so uhm, that explains a lot
I feel called out...
Thanks, Captain
And I will keep doing it.
So why are they still using this in products when it isn’t vital that it’s added? Why nobody warning people of the cancer risks in products also?? All by design, they don’t want to fully inform us as it’s cheaper than alternatives…..
I do not use make up
Well on the other hand youtube is full of videos making natural ingredients in products look discusting just because it comes from some animal's body part or just not sounding poetic enough. And plants ... well lot of them can be quite irritating to many people. So what else do you want to put on your face? :D
Bioengineering FTW

@@doriscastillo2232 dunno what you on abt. Weird.
good
7:11 You are using data seems to create wrong notion. The amount of petro chemical we use in the form of self-care products is miniscule compared to "OIL" as fuel.
great work
This video make me want stop using any oils even food oils☹️ I felt myself and this world are gross
Wow love the quality of this and the host
Let's hope for a future with less fossil products, we greener and better methods/ways.
No need.
Your medications are petrochemicals too !
Tell me
Ive never used Vaseline in my whole life. I want natural products
Lmfao. Define "natural" and why it's better and then talk.
Best alternative of cosmetic is do not use them at all.
Can we just appreciate how efficiently our universe has created greedy humans that even now think about how and act to increase growth in the petroleum industry?
And the BOTOX and plastic surgery 🙄
Lab muffin beauty science!!!!!! Hi Michelle
Can they be labeled as ‘vegan’ or ‘organic’ by producers?
Vegan yes, organic I guess if they have some other organic ingredient
Try to use only natural soap like made from olives or other natural stuff.
Why does this video have so few views
I have the most minimalistic skin wash my face then apply hyaluronic acid serum and the Egyptian magic moisturiser and sometimes spf
Me, who works at a Naphtha Cracker, getting mixed feelings from this...
So the cosmetic counter is anti-environmental. Ladles what are you doing!!!!!!!!
