    when explaining a bunkai, or you know the original and correct version well, or it is better to avoid. the bunkai contains a series of elements that emerge when it is used. if the bunkai is not well explained those elements do not emerge and cannot be transmitted. therefore pay attention to those who say they know kata.

      You are not looking at the kata correctly, you are not stepping to the side you are really stepping forward and behind your opponent. The Kata is for practice of principles and refinement of movement, to understand how to use the kata cannot be done by looking at the kata but by workmen with a partner and knowing how it works. and that is something that you learn from a competent teacher.

      ***** Most definitely Shorin-Ryu. Neihanchi is the typically the first set of kata you learn.
      source: studies Shorin-Ryu.

    where is the kiai

    • @Oneminutebunkai
      @Oneminutebunkai 7 років тому +4

      Where ever you like. Kiai is not mandatory and it is over emphasized today. You can do Kata and not have a kiai. Would you do a Kiai if you are practicing your Kata at 3 in the morning when your wife and kids are asleep?

      +Dinzel Walker-Smith I don't think so... usually shotokan has deeper stances.

      +Rob S I was guessing shotokan because of the ridgid movements
