  • Perfectionism lays in all of us and it's the reason why we forget about those big tasks that guilty wraps the bottom of our wishlist/ bucket list/ life plans. In the last couple of months, I've been facing the perfectionist inside myself without realizing that it was going to put me in a burn-out stage that will last for months.
My productivity went down and procrastination levels went up. The obsession of being right and then perfect dragged me down to a path where I was looking for inspiration... and then I was copying the people who I found inspiring. Not a wise decision. Why?
In this video, I talk about the curse of perfectionism, and even if sometimes (I said sometimes) it proves to be good, most of the time just isn't.

Dude first of all great vid. The level of production is getting higher and higher. The way I deal with perfectionsim is this: "Done is better than perfect!". Many times we end up doing projects that can of course be improved, things can always be improved, but we lack the energy or knowledge in that particular moment. But when you do that thing again it'll be a lot easier and you'll improve and every time you do it you improve. So to overcome perfectionism just do whatever it is that you wanna do and repeat. Sooner or later you'll reach a point where it's not perfect it'll never be but it will be god damn close!

How did I see your comment only now? Man, thanks for always being here for me :)
My lesson is that perfection is just the ideal image from our heads and usually the reality is way different from our imaginations.

My mom used to say "If you can't make it perfect, then ron't even start it". It still sounds in my head, when I do something, that I haven't done before, like painting the kitchen. How I handled it? I asked myself: for whom am I doing it? Do I need anyones validation of it?... Oh, I am doing it for me? Am I happy with it? Then its perfect. My perfect!
    It works... For now :D
Great job with the video ;)

Well, our parents didn't have the right tools nor the education to work on themselves. But even if they made done mistakes (which any parent will do), it's our responsibility to tailor our personalities in the desired direction.

Thank you Chris!! I couldn’t agree more about allowing time for your thoughts. It’s one of my favourite pastimes. There was a time in my life when everyday I was able to dedicate several hours to processing that it became the norm for me until life took over. Then only after I reached burnout I remembered the importance and managed to refocus and put it back. I’m still recovering from burnout but now it’s back as an important part of my life I can enjoy this time again. X

I really appreciate taking time to comment in such a meaningful way!
Work-life balance is essential in finding the best mileage for our life of professional plans. And recently I found that mindfulness is something we all need to get back in shape after burnout. Take time for yourself and let everyday tasks slide in favor of tume with yourself!
Also, you are my first Patreon outside my community asks If like to thank you for that! It means a lot to me

what i learned is that procrastination is a by product of stress. that is exactly what i struggle with. doing things that seems important at one time but are really a blanket to not adress the real problems and to take the real actions. meditation and yoga, fitness...have helped, along with Mel Robbins' book. But still, it's a long process to really wake up. The thing is that perfectionnism for me is just an other form of procrastination/stress. Being able to let go and not wanting to control everything is a major step to real freedom.

I can totally relate! Right now, I'm doing Crossfit and it helps tremendously. Other than that, I feel it's important to always take time for ourselves, otherwise, we either work too much or procrastinate :)

I find that sometimes seeking perfection gives me a lot of pressure . So i will take things more easily even though there is some errors or mistakes.

I feel you! You probably feel drained because you don't sell the right "perfection". Usually perfection that people need lays in kindness, reflection, spending more time with other people, gratitude, and not in a bigger house, a better car, and green stock market charts. The latter are nice to have, but the other ones are necessary.
I started to take the pyramid of Maslow as my inspiration for the things I want in my life. Now I genuinely enjoy food and Oriole much more than before and I don't take it for granted anymore.
