@Grant Omar thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you! WE ARE AWARE OF THE VOLUME ISSUE. It was the first free instructional video we ever did and at the early days of the pandemic when we didn’t know if our business would survive so we didn’t spend the money on really good mics. Turns out that is important. After spending that money on mics they volume issue was solved for most of the rest of the videos - splint and pressed cane still done with the inexpensive mic at the scary early pandemic days so maybe skip those. Hard to produce perfect videos as a total novice with tech stuff and also being pretty stressed - the rest are really good if I do say so myself.
Finished my chair seat per your instructions. Maybe too tight on the warp making last couple of rows way too difficult. Could not get the tacks hammered in so used channel lock pliers to squeeze some of them in. Do you have any videos that explain how to weave the back for a chair that has arms.
Wish you the best on your projects! Tension is a tricky one...and dependent on so many factors. As our experience increased, we realized that you can lean on the weaving to add more tension and save energy by not having to pull the warp as tight. Thank you for watching!
@@unityneeded Don't fret! Shaker Tape is stretchy. Toward the end, it might be a little harder to weave than it needs to be, but canoe seats are small.
@@silverriverchairs3686 So i was using 1/2 inch nylon band but following your method. Def got SUPER tight at the end. Herringbone on top and checkerboard on the bottom. Thank you for the instruction.
@@unityneeded You are very welcome! And, yes, nylon isn't quite as stretchy as the cotton Shaker tape...and 1/2" would make it a tighter weave as well. But, it sounds like you got your project done. Yay! Well done!
H, Thank you fore sharing such valuable information. I wanted to know of there is any substitute of tacks and staples. I don’t want to damage the rungs.
I was wondering what you do if you run out of shaker tape at the last row? i bought another roll but not sure how to start the new roll? Any help would be Greatly appreciated!🙏🏼
excellent work, very elegant in the end; Can you tell me the name of that tape you use? It is that I am in Spain and I do not know what name it receives here to look for it. congratulations and thank you 🙏
Fantastic and very useful video ! I wish I had watched it before I weaved an old metallic folding chair. . It would have saved me a lot of time... And I have a question. I knew nothing about that technique, and the chair was metallic, so I could not nail anything. So I hand-sewed the tape at the ends and beginnings. (actually, it was not tape, I had a big roll of thick rope material you normally use to make shoe(espadrilles) soles, and did not know what else I could do with it). So the questions are (i have several chairs i would like to fix) - is sewing rather than nailing a common way of doing ? And if not, why not ? Wich problem, on a long term, with sewing ? - if you weave with leather ( I have plenty of leather from the back of old armchairs) will it stand if you nail it ? Or will it split ?
any type of flat surface will pick up dirt easily, even hard surfaces like rush, splint, etc. For Shaker tape, you can apply scotch guard. Like all woven chairs, you can vacuum up surface dirt. Sitting fully on the chair's surface (vs just on the edge of the seat) will extend the life of the chair. Shaker tape can fade in direct sunlight, but once it fades, you can remove the weave and reverse the material for a brand new looking seat! No other type of woven seat can do this fun trick.

Yes...and no. The foam, or some form of padding, will extend the life of you seat and make the seat more comfortable. The Shakers would make a cloth pillow stuffed with straw/pine needles/cloth and glue it to the rails of the chair. The foam serves the same purpose, but is easier to work with. If you really don't want to use foam, that's fine...your seat won't implode, but it might be slightly less comfortable and might not last as long. Thanks for watching and we wish you the best!
