    But if one disk is partially unavailable. For example, the nvme disk is messed up. This will pretty sure corrupt the data on the whole disk.

Now I want e to use the same drive for future raid1 backup, however; I don't want to format or loose any data that was backup in the process setting up RAID1 in the process. kindly please Advise if it's possinle. know the Con and PRo of RAID1. thanks.

      Establishing any kind of RAID on the drive will delete its content unless it is this drive that is mirrored to another one. Look in my channel on a video on how to establish RAID1

    Excellent video. Are we able to tell when a mirrored HDD is about to fail so that we replace it before it actually fails? Or maybe that's not needed because we can simply replace it when it completely dies.

      He is not correct. You can mirror the OS drive but on bootup windows will detect two OS boots with a timeout. In 30 seconds it will auto boot from the first one. Its a pain and is why you would not want to mirror the boot drive on windows. On Hardware raid you can boot from mirror no issue no dual boot menu issue.

    When I use the d-link utility, it sees the drive's IP address and shows static IP, but when I try to open it with windows 10 by inputing \\192.168.68.115 (this worked before and this is the IP that shows with the d-link utitly), Windows does not see it anymore and says windows can not access \\192.168.68.115.

    I have a serious issue with two 4TB SATA SSDs in RAID 1 on Windows 10 (not the boot/system drive). One drive is failing, and when it does the array fails of course) BUT I cannot access the other drive or the logical drive D: that was assigned to the RAID volumes. When I attempt to use Disk Manager as shown in your video, it does not show two drives, just one drive D: appearing as normal drive, not mirrored. Nowhere does "mirrored" appear. When I consider deleting the array with the IRSTe interface via Windows or in BIOS, I am warned that I'll lose all the data. Despite all the internet statements to the contrary, i.e, that I will not lose the data when deleting an array or removing a disk from an array, the Intel apps say that I will. I'd be thrilled to do away with the RAID configuration and be left with two indpendent drives, one good, one likely bad, but I cannot afford the data loss. Any ideas would be immensely appreciated!

    • @KnowledgeSharingTech
      @KnowledgeSharingTech  8 місяців тому

      Maybe your RAID is a HW RAID done on the BIOS level. The only solution I can think of is to get a temporary 4TB drive, transfer all the data to it, beak the Mirror and re-do it with good drives and then retransfer the data from the temp drive to the mirror.

    • @RonOnThePond
      @RonOnThePond 8 місяців тому

      @@KnowledgeSharingTech Thank you for your reply. You might be right about HW RAID. I will soon be moving this data to a new workstation with new NVME drives, so I don't' want or care about RAID on my soon-to-be gone computer, but I want it functional until I've moved everything. I just want to access the data on one of the two mirrored drives for a while longer. So what finally worked for me was to remove both drives from their current disk bays, and put one of them into a previously unused bay. When I booted, that drive was seen as a normal drive D: with no reference anywhere to RAID. So it would seem that the physical location of the drive is what identifies it as a mirrored drive. And now I have a working PC again, but I still don't understand why the RAID1 was flagged as disabled and not just degraded. It will remain a mystery.

      If the RAID 1 came pre-configured on your PC, then maybe it is a HW RAID, meaning it was setup in the BIOS, in this case, you will see only one drive in DiskMan

      What I show in this video is Software Raid 1. This cannot be implemented on the OS volume.

    One drive in a Raid 1 pair reports errors. Reactive disk fails to resync - after an age it drops back to reporting errors (after getting to 74% of a 3T disk). The 'Break Mirror' option is greyed out. Does this mean that I can only use the 'Remove' option? Once separated I assume that I can do a chkdsk /r to attempt a repair on the bad device?
