We visited Bekonang in Central Java, Indonesia and taste tested the local alcohol Ciu!
If you've been following along on our channel...a few months ago we made a video about the alcohol Arak in Flores, Indonesia. That video turned out to be our most viewed video and currently has more than 970,000 views!
In the comments of the video, many people asked us to visit Bekonang and try Ciu. Soooooooooooooo....we did it!
In this video, we explain the process of how Ciu is made, and we taste tested 3 different kinds.

Ciu, which is made from molasses, is often found in Bekonang Village, Sukoharjo, near Solo, and is often referred to as Ciu Bekonang, Ciu Cangkol, or typical Solo wine.
In my country (Indonesia) it is usually mixed with sweet drinks so that the taste and smell don't sting

If you are still in Yogyakarta Area, there's a local alcohol call "Salak Pondoh or Pondoh". Relatively new comer compare to Ciu or Arak. It's made from snake skin fruit or local call it Salak fruit. If you can get one to try it will be great...

Y'all should try traditional alcohol from Manado called CapTikus. That's the famous one and the hardest. Its about over 40% of alcohol. But if ure in Java u'll get the legal version, u can only get the traditional version if ure in Manado. Peace out!

Legen and Tuak is made from Siwalan or Lontar.

if u come to north sulawesi, precisely in Manado u will be served a traditional alcoholic drink they called rat stamp ( Cap Tikus ) with an alcohol content of 40%, 65%, 75% and some even 80%.
it is very different from the traditional drinks that are in java. because here it is pure from palm sap which is distilled periodically to produce pure alcohol without a mixture of methanol as is commonly found in Java, which is called oplosan drink.

you must try "arak kerek" which is arak that comes from the city of Ngawi, East Java, according to people, arak kerek is the strongest drink in Indonesia, and there is also a place for making wine since the colonial era of the Dutch East Indies. Pretty close from solo

Original Ciu Bekonang: baaically just white rum. If you want Rum and Coke or Daiquiri on a budget, this is your liquor.
Ciu Gedhang Kluthuk: made from wild bananas, it basically similar to Ugandan Waragi
