This was one the best experiences with my son, what a shame we can't go back and watch all those incredible old UK jets shoot down that runway anymore 😔 It was a privilege just to be on the side of the runway with these classic planes
Rusty Trombone You make it sound as if he did a circuit of the airfield before landing which was not the case as I’m sure you’ll know. But yes the pilot was lucky all ended without damage or casualties.
The Electric Lightening for me is hands down the most gorgeous JET plane ever produced..... only behind the Spitfire and Mosquito as the best looking planes ever!
How wonderful that dedicated enthusiasts keep these aircraft 'alive', vastly superior to 'dead' static exhibits! The hugh cost and complexity of keeping just one of these old aircraft constantly airworthy is staggering. It's really great to see these displays, as they are the next best thing to seeing them airborne, seeing and hearing them running, and moving under their own power complete with the lovely avgas smells!. Thank you and well done to all involved.
You've gotta love the pride and tradition of the RAF in keeping these birds alive and well for us to enjoy. What did we (Australia) do with our F 111's? Buried them in a trench in the desert - because some fool politician told them to.
They would have been scrapped otherwise, the MoD tend to sell a few and then scrap the rest. It's nothing to do with the "Nanny state" really, they are just old, worn out and extremely complex aircraft. Some of the aircraft shown were unreliable when they were new, they don't get better with age.
Shame there isn't a TSR2 ground runner - now that would be awesome Fascinated by the Victor - looks to me like Gerry Anderson was on the design committee
Stunning, its like a collection of my Airfix kits waiting to be built !! Also what an incredible country for engineering..aircraft,cars,boats,bikes...also movies !!Tony in Cork,Ireland....a lover of London....
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - some incredibly stunning (some incredibly brutal) looking aircraft. Above all else, it’s great to see them out and about and getting a chance to stretch their legs a bit, even if they don’t all get to take their place in the sky. Those Lightnings with their huge engines, barely functional wings and dad-bod gut hanging out are so great.
I think you said it best, what I love about the British cold war era planes is the brutal appearance, the Victor looks like a merge with '60s era and war of the world's spaceship.
I seem to recall hearing that when they were doing taxi tests on that Victor after they restored her that she actually became airborne at taxiing speeds. Surprised we didn't have a repeat of that here.
My Grandad worked at Handley Page and I lived in Garston during the 50's and 60's. The Victors were a fantastic sight and sound as they passed low over our house on base leg into Radlett.
There is so much history in British aerospacei inovation into the jet age, sadly it was not sustainable. The Typhoon is exceptional, but the BAe Hawk is the last wholey British design from the cold war era.
Same with the Lightning!! Would love to have seen that lightning take off straight in to a vertical climb....Goosebumps all over!! Love the Bucaneer...great aircraft, which with today's tech installed, could comfortably perform their duties!!
That Bucaneer did manage an impromptu take off a few years back. Didn’t fly as such but was technically airborne 😱🤪🤪🤪😱 Or was it the Victor my memory is too bad.
A great show, great applause for the organizers. I always watch with admiration BAC Lightning F6, and of course Nimroood 🏆. If there was a political commentary at the beginning - that someone would invent such a rocket, that all of them - British, Polish and others, put them in and - last destination: Moon
Oh wow, they've kept a VC-10 in ground running condition! Superb. I hope they can get one of the Tristars running. Plenty ex BA RR techs kicking about!
All these wonderful aircraft!! If they were sentient had a soul which I think these have, and remember the good ole days of them all being where they belong (in the air) it must be very sad due to this countries aviation red tape they'll all be destined to to be land locked show ponies for the rest of their lives....if thay can start, taxi then they can danm well fly😢❤
well that takes me back to when I was in the A.T.C and Aircraft rec test one I not shore of at 1125 min though it was a soviet job Fogger but I is a lot older now an the brain don work so well
@@maxhodgson4462 Looking head on, the Victor is sooo menacing but a thing of absolute beauty. 2 years of watching them from the tower at Marham was never boring.
I know this might get me a lot of hate, but i think some of the aircraft of this era look hideous. Not trying to offend anyone but some of them look like a potato or a ugly carrot with wings on it. Or the victor which looks like a giant moth. Not boring though. This is just from a design standpoint, still great engineering.
Rene Kuhn if you are referring to the lightning in SA, that crashed years ago, that’s why they don’t fly here, plus these aircraft are all out of flying time, would take millions each to get them airborne.
I am really going to miss these days at Bruntingthorpe..
This was one the best experiences with my son, what a shame we can't go back and watch all those incredible old UK jets shoot down that runway anymore 😔 It was a privilege just to be on the side of the runway with these classic planes
That Victor still looks like it came from another planet...
It actually took off during one of these shows and the pilot was lucky to come back around and land because I doubt it was carrying much fuel.
@@edgein3299 It's british engineering, the least of the worries is the fuel

Not airworthy just live and taxiable
Ex RAF 79-92, I watched this with tears in my eyes. Really REALLY must do this some time. Superlatives fail me.
The Lightning, Vulcan and Buccaneer are extraordinary designed marvels and a treasure to see under their own power and not hoisted on static display.
Seeing that blue haze in the Lightning intake was incredible, but when it came by on full reheat is indescribable
You've gotta love the pride and tradition of the RAF in keeping these birds alive and well for us to enjoy. What did we (Australia) do with our F 111's? Buried them in a trench in the desert - because some fool politician told them to.
In fairness, these are all privately owned. The RAF/MOD would've quite happily buried them in the desert.
@@stuco81 But happy enough to flog them to some blokes with access to a long bit of tarmac. :-)
@@maxhodgson4462 And if only they'd let them fly again. Nanny state over reaching, I feel.

LET THE LIGHTNING FLY!!! Great video!!
would love to see the lightning take to the skies again
Real aircraft! Shame they cant fly them. But still great that they have kept them in a taxi state!
The VICTOR WHAT A MACHINE. I've see that up close on an airbase when I was a cadet Sargent. Good old days.
They have the VC-10 operational? What a magnificent sight
What a fantastic R/C model.
And the Comet as well? Epic!
That Nimrod shot. What a monster that is! Glad it still exists (and runs)!
Yeah that close up shot is haunting. Fitting of the times she flew in.
Do you mean the Comet?
Sorry, just seen the Nimrod!
The Victor is such an interesting aeroplane. So many bumps and protrusions.
The lightning has always been
one of my favorite jets.
This is Aviation Paradise!
Halcyon days of real British aviation design and engineering!!
Man i would love to see these birds fly again.
Sad to think that so many of today's youngsters never got the chance to see
these aircraft fly.
Would somebody PLEASE let that Victor take off and make a low-level pass !!!!
insurance > feasibility
It did a while back not intentionally though. There is a video on here somewhere
The Victor looks soo bad ass! And the VC-10 is one of the best sounding jets ever made!
British aircraft British design beautiful.
Such a shame that politics killed this industry

Jeez the Lightening was practically airborne.

Oh wow, they've kept a VC-10 in ground running condition! Superb. I hope they can get one of the Tristars running. Plenty ex BA RR techs kicking about!
I think they were supposed to be sold at some point but not sure what happened.
Fantastic!!
Beautiful aircraft do the British not allow these relics to fly
@user name Surely there must be a way to get these old birds airborne again?
I saw a couple of those L-1011 for sale on Controller a year or so ago....still in RAF paint.
São muito lindos o VICTOR e o BUCCANEER.
This may be the best video
At least the Victor didn't attempt to take off this time!!
Britain has built some of the most beautiful and some of the fugliest aircraft ever. ;)
Fantastic footage!
I really like those british events! Like to have some here in Germany but since Ramstein- no way :-(
Why are none of those aircraft taking off (Save for the RC Vickers VC-10)?
PLANES THAT DON´T FLY... STILL GREAT
Some aircraft were overrated, but some clearly underrated like the VC-10, Victor and Lightning.
brilliant vid
Wow, 2 Avons to start the video with!
12:47 - look at that thing! I suppose it was projected to inflict fear to the enemy just by seeing it...
