She’s such a know it all sometimes. K we get it Canadian athletes have lives outside the sport. K cool, it’s not the same approach in other countries. Imagine being so young and performing on such a big stage, I’m sure she just wants to practise and perfect it all the time. Thanks for the advice Meg. That’s the thing about Americans and Canadians they have this superiority complex because they have lives outside the sport. But they don’t realize that it’s because they had way more advantages being born in privileged countries and come from better socioeconomic backgrounds (when compared to Russian athletes) and they just have different cultures (when compared to the Japanese)

I know what you mean.... lecturing people isn’t limited to North Americans. People from all over the world do it. MD is a nice person- remember how she celebrated with aliona savchenko when she finally won the Olympic gold? Pure class. MD is a coach after all. Figure skating history is full of great skaters with great promise who crashed and burned when their bodies couldn’t handle the pain anymore. So when they lost skating, they suffered big time. MD is right - skating shouldn’t be everything. Other interests are the only way to keep these very focused skaters sane. But Rika, like so many champions before her, has an ability to focus and concentrate on skating to the exclusion of other things. They need something else to fall back on or they might go crazy.

nolaughingmatter That’s a rather extreme way of looking at things. There’s nothing wrong with her focusing on figure skating. They asked what she liked to do to get her mind off of figure skating, but the fact of the matter is that she genuinely ENJOYS figure skating and that is what relaxes her the most. Rika never said that she didn’t have any other HOBBIES or interests, she was saying that she didn’t have anything to relieve her stress from skating BECAUSE skating is what relaxes her.

She's still a student, right? I think being a world-class athlete is enough of a hobby when you're still at school xdd

Rainydayparade I was talking more about about how some people thought MD was being didactic. Figure skating is full of fallen heroes. Rika May be a very balanced person off-ice. But it isn’t wrong to say it’s good to take your mind off skating because it’s so intense.

    Dear Meagan,
You are sweet but you should not give a lesson to skaters, especially to champions. She may be only 16 years old but trust me she doesn't need to have your opinion about interests outside of the skating. You know skating is not easy. And she is very special skater, did the first triple axel -triple toelop combination in ladies history. And this is the unique and big interest she has as she said. She has a enormous interest for now and there is no much time for an other one. Is it clear? And you are 35 but she is 16. Some special Hobbies come within years.

I do not think Mag tried to teach Kihira anything. I think she just wanted to share her thought and talked with Kihira as 2 skaters talk with each other. Btw, the answer of Kihira made me remember of answer Yuzuru about the same topic 😂😂😂😁

Japan English is terrible, as the teachers teach English by using the pronunciation of Japanese. You can't even understand what Japanese's English are speaking

      Thank you.
      I think so too.
But Marin Honda live America with her brother from this year.
She must learn English language and must use English.
I know Japanese English is no good.Because that's no good how to learn English in Japanese school. We learn English for 9 year s~12years.But almost of Japanese can't speak English.
I'm sorry, maybe my English is terrible because I'm Japanese.
But Miki Ando and Kim yuna lived America and Canada.
      They worked hard to skate.
Now Chan Jufan live in Canada.
      He can speak English.
      I understand your saying.
But I think Rika Kihira can learn English and speak English too.
