I'm also researching electric scooters, specifically the OLA and Bajaj Chetak models. Due to numerous comments about poor after-sales service with OLA, I'm leaning more towards the Bajaj Chetak. Bajaj is a reputable brand with a market capitalization of 2.7 lakh crore. Here are the reasons for my preference for the Chetak. Please let me know if you disagree, as your input could help me make a well-informed decision. Additionally, some of you might find this analysis useful.
1. In city driving, I typically drive my Honda Activa at 40 km/h due to traffic, occasionally reaching 50-60 km/h. Thus, I don't see a need for a scooter that can go 90 km/h. A top speed of 63 km/h is sufficient.
2. I've noticed some OLA scooters with rear damage, possibly due to their fiber body, which affects their appearance. Bajaj, with its extensive service network in most cities, offers faster availability of spare parts. Their market reach is significant, although their EV scooter performance is yet to be fully seen.
3. Given the poor road conditions in India and the accident-prone environment created by e-rickshaws, I prefer a metal body scooter.
4. Drum brakes are adequate for city driving at speeds up to 60 km/h.
5. While features like maps are useful for reaching unfamiliar places, they are not essential for me since my travel distances are short. We already have smartphones and smartwatches for navigation.
6. Other display features, such as message notifications and music, can be distracting while driving and should be avoided.
7. Although OLA offers more storage space, I rarely carry large items on my Honda Activa, so an 18L storage capacity is sufficient.
8. Metal bikes can comfortably carry an additional passenger without compromising stability, giving Chetak an advantage in the long run.
9. I live in a small city and use my Activa for short trips to the office or grocery stores. OLA might be better for those who travel frequently, but my daily commute is less than 15 km. A range of 100 km per charge allows me to easily cover six or seven days of commuting, with a single full charge on Sundays.
10. This will cost me around 3 units or Rs 24 per week, totaling Rs 100 per month, which is significantly cheaper than spending Rs 2000 per month on petrol for my Activa. I can save approximately Rs 23,000 annually and about Rs 1.2 lakh in five years. After five years, I might consider a new bike, though it's not necessary. If the resale value of EV scooters improves, I could potentially profit. Therefore, a battery life of five years is excellent, with eight years being an added bonus.

I was thinking about buying ola s1x after fame 3 subsidy starts in july, but now i will certainly go for Bajaj chetak 2901 (especially in odhisha the onroad price difference is just 6000+3000 tecpac extra for chetak than s1x ), so for me no sense in buying a s1x anymore (maybe if ola drops another 10k then may consider again) 😊

Bajaj chetak 2901 has side mounted solid state motor, aka not hub or mid drive, its a dedicated motor connected with the rear wheel, just ouside the wheel itself (same system in vida aswell)

In bajaj 2901 tecpac gives alloy wheels aswell instead of steel wheels (so 3000 extra is okish+ sport,reverse,hillhold and some connective features)
