I remember travelling on that train to Downham Market to see my aunt and the sound of that very hit me like a wall bricks.
As a Japanese rail fan this sounds familiar to our current trains with Toyo Denki GTOs like the Keikyu 600, Keisei 3700 and some Keihan trains!

the first noise you hear is the propulsion, the javelin noise is the motor.
The 365 sounds like that because it has a GTO Thyristor inverter to control the power and speed of the traction motors
