I had to laugh when I saw the result of my first attempt, I wanted to share this with you.
Thanks. It's just OpenGL, one second per frame. The actual video took one week to render in Cycles on two systems.
Depends on what you want to do. Computation heavy work will take longer then. But browsing the internet, doing office stuff or playing smaller games is usually not a problem.

I wondered why on Earth would you make a sausage plane? Amazing to see the tension development and nature of fractures. In reality do the panels mostly stay attached and tear along seams?

The issue is the amount of work it would take to implement this, only for 99.9999% of its player base not being able to run it. You'd honestly need a 1080ti dedicated to just physics, but one day maybe.

Kostack Studio You are right, but in my opinion fracturing the whole plane instead of fracturing the crashed part only will cause the scene became unrealistic because the wings would not break like that. By the way, your videos of blender are impressive, keep it on!

My thoughts at beginning are that the plane needs to be more rigid rather than soft and have varying strengths in each part. Like the fuselages can snap when exposed to too much bending.

But, a nose diving plane would shatter into a kjighllion pieces upon impact with a solid ground, even the tail would be destroyed...
Just look at flight 93 which nose dived at mach 1 and everything got obliriteraterated!

The NTSB report of PSA 182 describe that upon near vertical, inverted nose down impact (similar to this buy slightly angled) the nose shredded but it sent a Shockwave through the frame that ripped the rear tail open instantly ( I imagine somewhat similar to #8 where the tail breaks off, or those little sections that pop out on the roof) and sent a man flying, in his chair. Witness watering his yard describes man in plane seat flying like superman, screaming in a way I dont want to describe or imagine but you can look it up. Based on my memory f that description, the simulation seems pretty close and you can kinda see how that crash would have happened.

I'm pretty sure the plane doesn't bend like 0:06. It usually just disintegrates into the ground due to fire and force

Simulation 1: The plane decided it wanted to be a worm.
#3 was the most realistic. Given the trajectory and speed (even if we assume only terminal velocity) the wings would never bend ant tear off as the fuselage. The plane would offer no resistance or deceleration to allow the weight of the wings to bend and tear off. The plane would slam into the ground so fast all that would be left is scrap metal and a huge crater. The car would have been obliterated within the first 10 feet of aircraft to crush it.

On the first simulation, it looked like God pooped out a plane on that poor car.
That first plane crash was not realistic... it looked like a banana...

That plane is moving at at least 450kts by nosediving. So technically number 3 would be the most realistic.
