As an Advanced Open Water and NITROX certified scuba diver, I can say that this is a lovely system. The depth is fine and close enough to the surface that even a novice would be safe. AND, the video is exceptional.
Really interesting idea. For specific use cases like you mentioned this could be a great device for someone who doesn't want to deal with a full scuba rig. For about $50 you could buy 4 5000 mah 21700 Li-Ion cells and make additional battery packs. Just wire them up in series so they're in a 14.8v 4 cell configuration. That's what they have inside the packs they're charging $140 for.
Dave, I have a gasoline engine powered "hooka" and I agree they are great ! Not as light or portable as this system, but loads of fun and shallow water adventures.
This is super cool and it's interesting how it's simultaneously innovative but also going backwards with technology as the old-school massive helmet diving suits and some other systems used this exact same methode of having a compressor on the surface although the compressor was on a boat and was much bigger. It's amazing to see old "outdated" technologies get revitalized with innovations like hey instead of a boat with a massive compressor put a small compressor on floaties because we can now make compressors that small and have access to thing like long lasting batteries and foam. Very cool and very good review too.
I’m assuming they don’t have longer hose lengths due to compressor specs but it would be way cool if they build a model that could support a 10ft, 15ft, and 20ft hose
Fascinating. A little on the high side, but obviously getting into diving is probably way more expensive. I just wish the water near me was clear enough to warrant buying one of these instead of only being able to use it on vacation.
These are great! we have 3 for our family. We use them for scalloping here in Florida, the water ranges from 4-7 feet. The grandkids who range in the ages of 10-12 absolutely love them! Understand these young kids have a lot of pool experience and are buddied up with adults.
That is COOOOOLLLLLL! Thank David! My ears won't let me deep dive. So I never finished my classes. I got right up to the last test and couldn't stay down. This will allow me to use all the fancy equipment that I paid a small fortune for!
Thanks for putting this out Dave and answering my questions! Thinking about getting this system for metal detecting and river hunting! Thanks brother!👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
At least you don’t have to worry about the exhaust fumes from the gasoline compressor like the old hooka rigs we used for lobster diving in the keys. They did go to 35’ though. I like this Nemo deal
That is neat. I was thinking metal detecting and other such shallow water applications as well. It is not TOO expensive...too expensive for me to pick one up right now but if you are going to use it all the time not that expensive. I like it.
Man why wasn't this around when I was a kid? We used to float a jet 02 tank with a hose.... no regulator, just continuous flow. Didn't work out so great but hey....it was fun. Someone was smart to see the need and fill it. Seems to have done it quite well to boot.
Thanks for showing up. I wonder how it is with airway cleansing. What are the chances of developing unwanted bacterias? How safe is the device if you use it often? Stay safe and all the best.
Hey Dave ... it’s great that you incorporate this stuff into your channel. I love your outdoor and hunting stuff, but I always had an interest in metal detection (my home is near the Ruins of the bridge of Remagen, so from roman times until 1945, there is a lot to find). These new Videos are cool and especially this Clip opens up a new world of possibilities. Please keep this up and all the best wishes for you and the family!
This is a really cool idea and it seems very useful, but $800 is a lot of money for 10 feet. Do other versions of this product exist with a more common-man price tag? It's probably a lot cheaper than actual scuba gear, but this is 2 week's pay for a lot of people.
If you enjoy diving without a respirator try using baking soda before diving. It increases your stamina and increases your bloods ability to use oxygen, translation you will be able to hold your breath longer.
I am pretty sure that is doing the same thing as my full face mask CPAP machine. My pressure is 12 psi. 33 ft down is 1 ATM. So 1o feet is much lower. My old cpap does run off of 12 vdc. And the thing is it is a "Constant Positive Airway Pressure" device. So even when I am breathing in, it supplies more pressure / volume so that my mask is constantly venting. It is so that it constantly expels the CO2. I would never recommend taking a medical device out into a water environment unless it was in a IP65 enclosure. Just saying the facts.
We had one in 1973, Briggs and Stratton 3.5 hp compressing the air. Man, don't put your wet hand on top of motor, feet in water when pull start. Couldn't smell the fumes mouth breathing.
There are other systems that let you go deeper than 10 feet. I prefer them though they are more bulky. Great review though and yes, I have been a certified diver since 1980.
Not a diver and don’t think I’ve ever snorkeled before either so please don’t beat me up too bad here, but wouldn’t a hose, that doesn’t kink, sticking a considerable distance out of the water(so water couldn’t splash down in) be another good alternative to SCUBA gear? Asking honestly, because I have no idea!
You need positive pressure to equalize the pressure exerted by the water. 10 ft is 1 atm gauge pressure or 2 atm absolute pressure. In short you are not strong enough to inhale against 2 atm.
Hi Dave, Great video as usual. I do have one point with it though. You say you don't need certification to use it. I would strongly disagree with that. If you're going to use Scuba or SNUBA you should have at least a minimum of training. You don't know what you don't know, and while you're not going to exceed no-deco times on that set, other injuries can occur. Baro-trauma has happened within the range of the BLU3 unit. If you're going to get one, make sure you know what you're doing.
I agree that a SCUBA Cert is a huge asset in education for this stuff, however BLU3 offers a free Online course that is part of the basic setup and Instructions that come with the unit, of course not everyone will do this but I agree they should for sure-
You can get cpap machines that run for 6-8 hours on a battery that size...can cpap machines tech be used for diving or are they not strong enough? Just wondering cause I have a portable cpap that is half the size of that and will run for over 7 hours on a charge. 1 hour run time seems inadequate compared to a cpap and its always pushing air.
Would be interested to see How this unit will perform in a relatively fast flowing river to do some underwater crevicing for gold. Will need some sort of anker to secure this system in one spot. How much are extra batteries for this nice device? Regards from The Netherlands
that's awesome dave can you also review some more scuba gear : wetsuit, saltwater, knife fins, computer watch navigation gps info tament depth.. also lobster techniques i like scubapro products regular bcd vs. mil spec bubbles, giant squid sharks shipwrecks full of gold always dive with a buddy
Saw the pic on Fascist Book earlier. Was curious what you were playing with . Pretty cool little system for skinny water. Been watching your dirt pirate stuff . Have you found a completely submersible metal detector aside from your pointer ?
Do you know when you are going to be able to do another Basic class. The last one I signed up for got canceled because of COVID-19. I’m dying to learn from the legends .
Hi Dave, I work on larger scuba compressors (Mako). Something g very important in normal scuba compressors are moisture removers. Does this devise have parts to do this? Or is this more of an air pump instead of a compressor?
"You don't have to be certified" I do think you SHOULD be certified, seeing as how there are so many hidden dangers with breathing air under water. If someone does not have a scuba education, but somehow the battery runs out or the compressor stops functioning, or they somehow have to make an emergency ascent, they dont know how to do that properly. Easy way to get barotrauma. I feel most of scuba training is not for regular operation of scuba gear, but mostly for if something goes wrong you know what to do and don't become another statistic.
I agree that a SCUBA Cert is a huge asset in education for this stuff, however BLU3 offers a free Online course that is part of the basic setup and Instructions that come with the unit, of course not everyone will do this but I agree they should for sure-
That system should have an 100 watt solar panel
Much better than the garden hose and duct tape I used back when I was a kid for breathing under water, lol its amazing that I survived my childhood 😄.
LearningOutWild I used to tape a hose to a inner tube to keep it out of the water and it will follow me as I swim under water. Lol
You did that too!?

i used to be an abalone diver until they shut down the season. And i am scubas certified and i went to the college of Oceaneering in L.A. Harbor

I like the exo lung idea. Not hard to build your own out of pvc check valves a dry bag hose ect but this unit is pretty cool
Thanks for putting this out Dave and answering my questions! Thinking about getting this system for metal detecting and river hunting! Thanks brother!👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The stuff they come up with these days. That's pretty cool. Nice addition to the metal detecting.
You the man Dave best dual survival host, the show went down after you left
I think it's hilarious that it's an air compressor based device that requires you to lung-inflate the donut float.
Why waste battery power inflating the float when you're above water and can easily blow it up?
It was a joke
Very cool piece of gear! We appreciate everything you do for us! Looking forward to the next video on this kit.
At least you don’t have to worry about the exhaust fumes from the gasoline compressor like the old hooka rigs we used for lobster diving in the keys. They did go to 35’ though. I like this Nemo deal
Great video. I plan on getting one of these. Thanks for all the great videos. You've taught me so many great things
Bet a person could find a lot of fishing lures and golf balls with that
nice bit of kit Dave thanks for sharing it with us
Super cool system. Thank you for sharing.
Bro how's the new house coming along?
Slow
@@DavidCanterbury Good things always take time.
@@DavidCanterbury much blessing to you and yours. Beep beep bloop bloop. Slow and steady she goes baby
That is VERY cool! Thanks, Dave!
This does cover a niche in the prep community. It opens areas of territory that would otherwise be off limits to most. Good idea.
That is neat. I was thinking metal detecting and other such shallow water applications as well. It is not TOO expensive...too expensive for me to pick one up right now but if you are going to use it all the time not that expensive. I like it.
pretty slick setup for sure
Dave is the man
That's an amazing gadget man, thanks for sharing this,it would be beneficial for gold prospecting underwater for sure
It would be perfect for hull scrapping

Really Cool video & gear unit! Thanks Dave!
Sweet, can't wait for the next one !
Thanks for showing up. I wonder how it is with airway cleansing. What are the chances of developing unwanted bacterias? How safe is the device if you use it often?
Stay safe and all the best.
Cool, like a long electric snorkel.....teasing the next show is a +
THAT is an awesome piece of equipment. I am curious how it holds up. Keep us posted Sir.
Why can't we have a James Bond rebreather that fits in a pocket?🤨 007 could never carry this and fight sharks.
Tidal volume is such a drag.
James Bond punching sharks in the nose! I'm thinking old Sean Connery James Bond (the best Bond of course)
because there are only so many hyperbaric chambers around to stuff people in
Just remember, if punching a shark in the nose doesn't make the shark go away. You can always poke it in the eye with your stump.

Cloudy water. Sometimes, all you need to do is add a clarifier.
Great video man, I plan to buy one.
Didn't know you were a fellow diver .... also I got certified in 1977 ... thanks David.... stay safe !
I like that you are branching out into other things. Stay up Dave!
I know a bunch of streams and small rivers in Northern California were that would be excellent for gold mining.
Thank YOU, Dave!
looking forward to it man !
This looks great. My back couldn’t take SCUBA diving anymore so I had to give it up. I’m going to get one of these if I can afford one.
That looks like a lot of fun. Plus side with it only being 10 feet, you should avoid the danger of the bends.
That's Pretty Cool Dave.
Marvellous bit of gear, you have another sub.

I am so glad he didn’t :-D
I need this in my life!

About 8 bills
@@DavidCanterbury That's not bad. Thanks for responding back.

Been nice to have this 15 years ago because of health I can't no longer get out and do the gold prospecting I use to do.
very slick unit Dave ,will see how pricing is.thanks again Dave
Nice! Nice! Always a cool adventure! Lookin forward to it my Dude! 😎👍🤘
Hey Dave did you make another video of you using the BLU3 nemo at lake or beach ???
That's pretty cool I cant wait. Take care!
David, with diving set, I'm waiting here, as a guest
You're awesome Dave.
That is really cool I would get back into diving with something like that around my lakes and rivers
The Redneck Rampage video game had a vacuum cleaner snorkel. Comparatively, this is high class (not to mention real world).

Very Cool.
I like it but it seems to noisy if people are around? Dl you think people my be annoyed by the sound?
wonder how it works in waves? seems like the air intake would get water in it?
Not bad been certified since 1988 not sure I would haul it through TSA not that they would steal it but I figure they would break it screwing with it.
