    Great interview, honestly Kove got me more interested in watching Dakar then Klein riding really sucked me into it. I was checking for updates daily on Dakar but once he dropped I was like "Meh, the other riders are good but I liked Mason..." I saw one video of Mason rolling into the pits bloody with a bike broke to hell and was by far my favorite vid of things as a rider, that was why I was watching to see another rider being a badass. One of the Kove engineers was asking Mason if he fixed part of the bike during the race and Mason's face made me laugh as he responded, "Yea....it's how I got here!" :) Ride on guys.

      you have to give it to him, stripping an engine in the desert cant be easy :-) i would say that the whole Malle Moto class have my respect too though, watching Cesarre Zacchetti stuck in that bombhole and then watching Tizziano from Rally POV and the others help get him out was a classic. as was the way Cesarre just shrugged his shoulders at the fact Carlos Saintz hit him coming over a dune in the final stages as though "that sort of thing happens every day lol"

      a giant of a man, RIP King of the Mountain. I met him once on his way to the races in the Czech republic as was then, his van with his bike in the back, the whole of the rest of the van full of donations for a kids home he had visited the year before because he didnt trust the charities to do it properly.. he wouldnt leave the bike in the back alone, so slept across the front seats so he could take more donations over. If only the world had more like Joey. What a man

    Great kid. From the very first moment I heard the Kove 450, I thought "gutless". All the sales in the US were hype and frenzy UA-cam over selling hype.
    Chinese stuff is getting better by the day. Some watches made in China are of a higher grade than most "Swiss made' overpriced watches.
    Yet, on a mass produced item, Chinese companies will cut corners in order to be price competitive.
    So, a 450cc that is gutless and needs to be rev over 9000 rpm to get you to feel anything, is going to fail on the Dakar race. Imagine a motorbike, needing 50 HP at the back wheel to power through the sand and ride at over 100 mph. The Kove has less than 30 HP and needs to be at over 9000 rpm.
    Fine for everybody else. Chinese bearings and things can't cope with that stress.
    So, they all failed.
    It will be a long time before Chinese manufacturers win anything.
    It takes great engineering, great manufacturing and GREAT RIDERS.
    Kobe might be gone within the year 2024.
    My advice, buy Chinese made motorbikes only for their cheap price. Never expect performances.

      too many generalisations for me there mate, they rarely have more than a grain of truth in my experience, what i will say, is a 20HP tune on a 40HP bike will always likely cause issues, the journey is long, many will fail, we will see if Kove is one of them

    • @BraapTales
      @BraapTales 6 місяців тому +2

      Written like someone who has no idea what they are talking about and obviously never ridden a Kove. By the way, the race version of the Kove has 54HP and my own Kove with the race exhaust and race ECU can keep up with a fully modded CRF450L no problem and comes alive around 4500 rpm. Not even close to 9000. Please stop spreading ridiculous misinformation on something you know nothing about.

    • @DatBikerDude
      @DatBikerDude 6 місяців тому +1

      The standard version is 52HP and the pro version is 54 HP. The one Mason raced was the untested 65HP EX but customized by his own team rather than Kove Official team. It also had a much better power/weight ratio(65/128) than a KTM (68/139). So....

    • @colinbowman8816
      @colinbowman8816 5 місяців тому +1

      Obviously, you haven't seen too many motorcycle dyno charts... Most 450 mx bikes make peak power @9000 and rev out to 11,500-12,000...

  • @BraapTales
    @BraapTales 6 місяців тому

    Great interview and video, thanks for doing it! It's so cool to hear that Mason is super motivated by exploring and seeing new things and places. That's something that goes far beyond racing, and it really means a lot to me as well. That's a major reason why I ride bikes. Rally racing, especially Dakar, just combines so many of my passions and looks to be the same for Mason. Mason is also a great mechanic. Maybe someday, after he's won like 5 Dakars, he'll make his own custom rally bikes. I would love to see one!
