Best Potato Harvest This Year - Kennebec Potatoes Grown In 10 Gallon Grow Bags

- We grew 3 types of potatoes this year. Kennebec gave us a better harvest than the other 2 types. We grew them all in 10 gallon grow bags. If you want to know the exact soil mix I used, I have a video that shows it. I'll put a link below. These potatoes were harvested in July. If you've grown Kennebec potatoes before, let us know what you think of them.

Digging potatoes is a real joy. Never gets old to see them magically appear!
I agree. It is pretty fun.
Love watching a potato harvest.. Thanks Jim.
Me too, Scott. Thanks a bunch for watching!
Jim, that is quite an impressive potato harvest out of those 2 10-gallon grow bags. You have convinced me to grow potatoes in grow bags next year. As a matter of fact, I've already ordered the grow bags and they're scheduled to arrive on Monday. I hope that you and your sweetheart are having a wonderful weekend. ~Margie🤗🥔💐
Thanks Margie! Hope you have a great potato growing season when you get a chance to use those new bags! We are doing well here. Hope you and your family are doing well also. Have a great weekend!
Awesome harvest. Those are some very impressive sized potatoes. Hope you doing well. Wishing you a lovely weekend. Cheers!
Thanks! We were pretty happy with them. I'm going much better. Hope things are going well for you. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for watching from the Philippines! You are right....it is better than nothing :)
Digging potatoes is really fun, I think you felt the same way.Thank you~~~😊
Yes, they are a lot of fun to harvest. You never know what you are going to get.
Good Morning Jim - Wow that is quite a harvest. Hope you are continuing to heal and can get done what you need to in the garden. Always interested in the pests that attack my garden to learn what to watch out for before they destroy everything. I am planning to move some easy crops indoors as I have too much competition outdoors. Hopefully I don't bring new pests indoors - LOL. Hope you have a great weekend..
Good morning Sue. Thanks! The worst pest that you can bring indoors in my opinion, are aphids. They can ruin your fun if you are trying to bring things indoors. I stopped bringing thing indoors for that reason. I start from scratch when growing things indoors. I plant them indoors, then let them grow indoors. It can really help pass those long winter months though :)
Yes I will start fresh indoors and keep them indoors. Gnats are also an issue.@@MidwestGardener
nice harvest Jim! Hope you and the fam are doing well
Thanks! We are doing well. Hope things are going well for you and your family also!

Thank you!
Great harvest! I miss seeing your videos. I hope you are doing OK and are recovery is going well.
Thanks! I'm doing much better now. I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. Hope you and your family are doing well also.
You're a master. I'll try the bags someday.Look promising.
You're too kind. They are good for folks who have poor soil.
Nice looking harvest bud!
Thanks Brent! Not much left around here right now. Doing mostly clean up work.
@@MidwestGardener It is certainly that time of year.
Real nice!!!😊👍
Thank you! Cheers!
❤❤❤
Those are some good looking taters Mr. Jim!
Thanks Nikki! There were pretty good.
Love the sound of your snippers - they sound like really nice sharp ones. Two questions: 1/ The stems and leaves go in your compost pile I assume; what about the beetles and eggs you found? 2/ So the seed potato gets tossed - not edible as it rots?
I don't compost potatoes or tomatoes. I discard any eggs or insects I find. I toss the seed potatoes.
That's a very good harvest. I've never grown those types of potatoes. Just some seed potatoes from Lowes, which didn't really produce enough for the price. I don't grow potatoes very often so I have a question. What is the purpose of continuing to fill the bag with soil if the don't make more potatoes up the stems? I'm running out of compost and all I get when I buy bagged soil is problems. Thanks. Hope you are doing well. Have a wonderful weekend 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋.
Thanks Shirley! The added soil just give some support and adds some nutrients late as the plants grow. This type doesn't make more potatoes along the stem. Hope you have a great weekend!
This was from 3 months ago? Hope you are doing ok.
Yes, I am doing much better. Thanks for asking!
Impressive harvest! How do these compare to Yukon Gold in taste and texture?
Thanks! I've never done a side by side comparison. They are both pretty good all purpose potatoes. We prefer Yukon Gold, but Kennebec has always been more productive for us.
I have some great red pitatoes that i planned on planting in a container in september but broke my foot. The sprouts are staying nice and clumpy but are growing potatoes size of peas. Im in 7 b. Any suggestion on what i should try? Can i grow them outside till a certain temp them put in greenhouse? I just camt believe they are growing potatoes without plant leaves.
Sorry, I don't have any experience with trying to take care of potatoes that late. You could try the plan you mentioned and see what happens. Sorry to hear about your broken foot. I hope it heals quickly!
