Hi Matteo 😊I love your crawler videos, and I have the CFX-W and also the cmx but still unbuilt. I have watched your comparisons between the CMX and CFX, do you have a favorite of the two? I was planning to put a hobbywing quicrun fusion in the cmx but it seems that motor won’t fit in the cmx so I bought a front motorkit assembly for the cmx. But should I have stayed with the cmx and another motor? 😊
Great Video bro!! Thumbs up! That's an awesome transmission setup and as always great explanation! I really like the front mounted motor setup and its a great looking rig!
Thanks to your videos I got a CC01 a month ago :) since it looks cool and is cheaper than axial scx10, due to weight and shipping costs. I like the CMX because I can use the CC01 lexan bodies on it, so that would save me more money when I buy it. I'd go for the CFX because the motor has a more realistinc position, but my budget for the next project will decide that.
hi matteo. great video! so would you say that cmx has better "crawler" performance than the cfx? even though the cfx has a better weight distribution and the battery sits lower than the cmx?
*THAT'S THE CHASSIS I WANT!!!* 😀😀 I already understand the principles behind the planetary gear. As a retired Auto Mechanic, I See it is too familiar with the Automatic Transmission in the real Car! With the addition of a secondary planetary set, in a lower or higher ratio, and some simple application Bands, I maybe can make this a two speed, Automatic Transmission!!! 😱😨😎 Regardless of my dreaming, if I could afford a CFX, it would be perfect for my needs. I especially like the way that the motor sits forward, a little high, and best, dead center! This way, I can go "next level" with Scale Details, and make an *opening Bonnet!!!* Several Shapeways Stores sell realistic looking Petrol and Diesel Engines, hollow inside - sized to slip right over any 540 motor!! 😱😀😀😀👍👍 Shapeways also has inner fenderwells, some made for specific bodies. Still other Shapeways Stores sell other Under Hood details, like distributor, carburettors or fuel injection, alternators, batteries, air cleaners, wires, hoses, radiators..... And most importantly, FRAMES to fit under the Hood (Bonnet), with attached hinges, that fixes to the inside of the Hood (that you cut out along the molded lines in the body. ESPECIALLY beneficial for the Lexan Body, which would be far too flimsy without frame. These 3D printed Hood Frames also include mounting tabs, to fix magnets to the front of the Hood, to keep it closed!! This is what I *want* to do. However, we can't even afford to get our kids and grandkids Christmas Presents!! 💔💔😭 We are in a Dire position financially. If SOME generous people would be willing to help us, at least we can give the kids a Merry Christmas. My situation isn't forever.... But it's been going on, and getting WORSE, for over 3 years now! I have been waiting, rather impatiently, for my Great-Grandfather's inheritance, which will END this Hell immediately - and even ensure that ALL of our grandkids can go to University! But for now we wait. And wait, and wait, and lose many friends, because we dared ask them for money, and wait, and STARVE (we always make sure the kids eat first!). We're now hoping beyond hope, that some people will OFFER to help us. It literally makes me SICK to ask for money... We have a PayPal.me account set up. In 3 years, TWO people have graciously helped us. We need so much more.... Sorry! I'm way off subject. Maybe you can tell me how the CFX has held up over the period that you've been using it. Have a Merry Christmas my friend! Carmine 🚂
Nice video .. hi mateo I'm confused between the d90 $251 boom racing (full metal) vs this kit $170 CFX, can you help me ... is the cfx kit really good? but the links, shaft & axle from plastic and bearing is not long lasting ? if I buy this kit for sure in the period I have to replace it with metal, because plastic is not durable and the price is expensive for the metal. do you think I should choose which one? after using this cfx kit for 2 years, did you experience a lot of problems? And what are the problems? Is this kit worth buying ?
Unfortunately, I have no experience with the Boom Racing D90. The CFX is of good quality and works well over a long time. But it needs a few ball bearings in the axles. The other parts of plastic are not a problem. They are strong enough.
Have you ever replaced the axle? I plan if I buy this kit I want to replace it with axle a boom racing ver 2. Is there a problem if I replace the axle ?
I've been looking at the gcm c-maxx chassis. it has multiple wheel bases with the motor front design. it also has the option for leaf springs or trailing arms and a slight overdrive on the front axle for better turning. I want to put it under my 73 Bronco body. it's kind of expensive. any thoughts on it, have you checked it out or compared it to the mst chassis?
I have no experience with this c-maxx chassis. Had to Google a bit, looks fine, but more challenging and more expensive as the CMX. I think an advantage on the CMX or CFX is, you have a good working chassis with everything included for a good price.
hi sir, as always excellent video. please keep them coming. may i ask which chassis do you really prefer? the newer cfx model has a nice gear and front mounted but does it really makes a difference? it seems that cg will be better with mid mounted motor configuration n inline battery placement. i m a newbie to this so i prefer a easier building and rugged rig for scale body bashing. some rc shops are giving a discount on cmx kit which make me quite torn between buying the cmx or cfx. would like to listen to your inputs as a newbie perspective. thank you. joe from singapore
The performance on the trails is not a big difference by CFX or CMX. As you said the CFX have a better gearbox with ball bearings included in the kit, but the axles are in both models with bushings equipped in the kit. In my opinion one more advantage of the higher installed motor is the better access on it for maintenance, and the less contact with water and dirt. If the price difference is not so big I would recommend a CFX, but if you can get a CMX much cheaper you can buy one without fear, it's still a good chassis.
Matteo's RC Movies thank you very much for your input. rcmart is giving a good discount on the older cmx unimog kit. they also offered the cmx to cfx conversion with front motor mounting with free shipping. i just bought the kit wth speedo and motor. thank you for your videos. i almost bought the tamiya cc01 unimog kit which i think i will regret...
I just got one of these MST CFX trucks. It will have the Tamiya Ford Bronco body. This truck has a lot of plastic parts. I am getting all the metal parts that are available. I am getting dampers, drive shafts, ball bearings. I plan on getting the suspension link parts too. Any advice on what else should be replaced? I am planning on using a brushed motor. Thank you for your time. Alfred
hi matteo, another excellent video, i like the new mst cfx kit. it would make a good back to back comparison video with the cmx running side by side. happy new year matteo. 😀 👍 👍 👍
Great video as always. How durable are the axles on these would you say? Are the lockers plastic or metal? I think a CFX Jimny on 3s with some weighted wheels would be both capable and fun but not sure if on how strong the stock drive line is.
Thanks! I am not sure at the moment. But I think it should be something I can use the extra space in the middle of the car for some interior details. Unfortunately the cabin of Unimog sits in front.
Great ! now I am working on 3 of my rc cars and I love to watch your amazing work while I am doing something with rc :) Those videos are incredible. Sometimes very helpful for me. I would love to go for a scale trip with you :)
If I was ever to get the CFX, I would also get portal hubs for and build an old Unimog 411 body to put on it. I think the CFX chassis is the right size for that vehicle.
Matteo please I bought a team raffee D 90 body and I don't dont to spend all the money a rc4wd d90 requires, so I cow this MST CFX and CMX C-10 Pickup RTR, what version do you suggest between the CFX or the CMX to the D90 body and of it is easy to mount, ciao e grazie Salvatore
Great review sir. I've been waiting for this. The change of moving the motor higher up and to the front seems to be for the purpose of giving the truck a more realistic weight distribution, but I would agree with you that it could hurt performance, given the center of gravity is now higher.
Another question: How do the Unimog bodies fit on the CFX? Does the motor in this configuration (compared to the CMX) interfere with the placement of an interior body with seats/driver/passenger?
A Tang This is a good question. The cabin of the Unimog sits more in front, so the motor position is not a big advantage with this configuration. I tried it out with my Unimog body.
OMG! Matteo, I love the informations!! I am trying to buy one of those now, but it will take me a long time to pay for it. 😕 I saw it on EvilBay, and da kit was only $185.00US. Might as well be a million in our situation.... but I'm hopeful. My 53rd birthday is in 2 weeks..... I put it on my list, but not getting my hopes up. I really want a RC4WD or a Vaterra Ascender, but THAT kind of money will never come to me.... I made mistakes, and am paying for it. Anyway, that was a brilliant review, that makes me want one even more! I LIKE the front motor. For your reason, to make interior easier to do, but also, the front motor, in the position it's in, makes it so you can slip a 1/10th Scale "engine" over the motor - so I could make an opening hood (bonnet!), and have a nice, Scale engine bay to show off!! That is my dream build, and the CFX is at least $100 cheaper than the other two I mentioned! 😉
Another great video, Matteo! Question for you: How do you like the steering servo you've got in your CFX? I've seen them online, and have considered purchasing one.
Thanks Fil. The waterproof servo from Savöx is very good and works for a long time in my CMX without any issues. But it's a bit expensive. In the new CFX I installed a waterproof servo from Power HD (LW20-MG) it's nearly halve price. It looks good but I have no experience at the moment how durable it is. But I think it should be good.
I agree, the Savox you're running in your CMX (I'm running the same one in my Axial Wraith) is costly, but the performance can't be beat! If you have time, please let me know your thoughts on the CFX steering servo, the torque specs look outstanding considering the cost!
Yes, this fits very well. For some time the CMX/CFX was available as Unimog. The body was the original one from Tamiya. www.rcmart.com/532154-mbenz-unimog-front-motor-crawler-p-71113.html
What about the diffs, can you take diff covers off or are the screws for show and you have to split the axle case like an scx10.1 to access them and dry out any water?
Thank you! I can not answer your question. Depends on what you need. If you like to build a car with a detailed interior the CFX fits better. If not you can chose the CMX with its lower center of gravity.
Hey! There I was googling what's the difference between the CMX and CFS and up pops your video. It's been too long since I checked out your channel. Hope all is well, my friend.
I found the kit for 16 dollars on ebay the seller got 5 to sell all sold out in 30 min i bought one and want to by a second one but the seller only sell one in 10 days to the same person i tought nice... saving around 200 dollars but after i payd ebay removed the product and refund my money :( samething happend when i bought wltoys 12428 :( know we bought the fy03 kit fingers crossed lol
The planetary gear gives a big gear ratio change. The force is distributed to several gears inside. So, there is not only one gearwheel to handle all the force. This makes it more durable and strong.
Very useful information, and i don`t think i will buy CFX because of planetary gear. I have one chassis with planetary gear, but no slipper clutch, and it do not work proply. It was bought on Ebay from USA i think, to fit jeep wrangler SWB hard body. I have broken one yota ll axel one first ride, not the gears but the axel it self where it`s attached to the mooving part..knuckles..? and in reverse it hardly moves on flat and not up hill. I contacted seller but he he was unable to say what brand it is. Been cheated i guess. Maybe i can buy standard transmission in stead. ( chassis looks like rc4wd chassis for D90..transmission and transfercase too). Any ideas what to do, please let me know. Hope i don`t do wrong using this comment place to tell you. I learn a lot from your videos..thank you..One question...will CFX chassis fit better to jeep hard body than cmx..?
Sad to hear you have this kind of problems. It's not easy to fix it now, and spare parts are expensive. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy a complete new car. I think there its no problem with planetary gears itself, but if its something wrong or broken it will not work properly. On RC4WD website you can buy many things separate, but I recommend it's better to buy something complete new.
RC Dabbler It is a look a like..big difference is that it comes without transmisson gearbox with slipper and spur..g3 single speed think is the name. It also came with 2 schocks on each wheel..?..one vertical mounted and one horisontal..they where also small schocks.Rc 1/10 rubicon wrangler SWB on youtube and you find a company.. allmyrcs..They sell "the shit"..Thank you..
jan erik skogmo mod-56 Okay, I know the one you're talking about. I remember watching it in eBay for awhile, but I wasn't pleased with the lack of information about who makes it, or specific dimensions. Most likely, you would have to fabricate a special mount, in order to use a different transmission, and that's probably more work than it's worth. Very frustrating! I do know that GCM makes the "J2 Skeleton Chassis" which was designed to fit that swb Jeep hard body. You might also find more chassis possibilities if you visit www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-scale-rigs/ Good luck!www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-scale-rigs/
That's great Ryan! I but on mine a Blackfoot extreme body too! Have you already seen?: ua-cam.com/video/l5hsMq3fmoM/v-deo.html You can send pictures: matthias.m@swissonline.ch
No, not on the CFX, but on the CFX-W. These are two different chassis. The CFX is 1:10 scale and the CFX-W with portal axles is much bigger, more like 1:8 scale.
ah poop, I thought I was looking at the 1/10 when I saw that, thank you Matteo. I have been waiting for the CFX to come out, now I don't know..... I already have an 8th scale jeep, man o man what a conundrum now I have some thinking to do.. Thx again
***** Thanks! I know, it's still a very good truck, I was just kidding about needing to buy a new one only because a new one is available now. I have three scale trucks now, I think I'm good for a while.
I always enjoy the way you put these videos together! Great info and you really did awesome showing all the differences! Thanks for sharing this! Thumbs up Matteo! ;-)

hi mateo I'm confused between the d90 $251 boom racing (full metal) vs this kit $170 CFX,
can you help me ...
is the cfx kit really good?
but the links, shaft & axle from plastic and bearing is not long lasting ?
if I buy this kit for sure in the period I have to replace it with metal, because plastic is not durable and the price is expensive for the metal.

Hello Mateo.
I have heard that the Pajero body does not fit with the loops body mount on the cfx chassis .
Do you know more about this?
Sorry I can not say something about... I do not know how the loops body mount works. But I think the best way is to ask direct on loops homepage.
Great review sir. I've been waiting for this. The change of moving the motor higher up and to the front seems to be for the purpose of giving the truck a more realistic weight distribution, but I would agree with you that it could hurt performance, given the center of gravity is now higher.

donate blood plasma. if you have the time, you can have one in a month.
Hi Matt. So the bearings in both chasis u have to install it yourself? Its not readily inside the gearbox?
Yes, you have to build everything and insert the bearings. 👍
Thank you for this review. Do you think this chassis fits to the Tamiya Unimog body to replace the CC-01?
Yes, this fits very well. For some time the CMX/CFX was available as Unimog. The body was the original one from Tamiya. www.rcmart.com/532154-mbenz-unimog-front-motor-crawler-p-71113.html
@@Matteomeier Perfect! Thanks a lot my friend!
very informative video! Brilliant good job
Thank you!
What about the diffs, can you take diff covers off or are the screws for show and you have to split the axle case like an scx10.1 to access them and dry out any water?
Yes, you have to split the axles.
Matteo's RC Movies thanks Matteo
Sehr gut erklärt! Danke.
CFX ist auch bei mir das nächste Projekt.
Sehr schön! Danke für dein Feedback Werner!
Would a Sand Scorcher body fit above the motor without cutting the body?
Not sure, maybe better is the CMX chassis with middle motor.
Great comparison and overview video.
Thanks!
Thank you for review video for us with nice explanation! Its should be good the slipper clutch was put. and enable to choose more slow ratio.
Thanks my friend!
Hi Matteo. Do you think 313mm Wheelbase links for the CFX-W can be used on the CFX?
Not sure. You have to move the Damper stay also and use longer drive shafts. Not sure if the ladder frame is long enough.
Matteo, have you tried your Tamiya CC01 Wrangler body over the CFX? Wondering what kind of ride height it would have to clear the motor housing.
Yes, it fits also. It's a little bit higher but still good. With my bigger tires on the Wrangler it fits perfect.
Great comparison !! So which is better? Cfx or cmx?
Thank you! I can not answer your question. Depends on what you need. If you like to build a car with a detailed interior the CFX fits better. If not you can chose the CMX with its lower center of gravity.
Cfx looks more durable, i have already seen a few people that have stripped the plastic gears on the cmx
That's true. Now, after a few runs with the CFX, I have to say the gear works very well.
Hey! There I was googling what's the difference between the CMX and CFS and up pops your video. It's been too long since I checked out your channel. Hope all is well, my friend.
wow great overview .. enjoyed it.. looks like a decent truck for the price.. thanks for sharing.. thumbs up.. 🖒🖒
Thanks Nickster! I'm pleased about your nice words!
Nice kit very interesthing and your channel too
can you tell me how much this kit cost?
Thanks! It's about 250-350 dollar. Depends on electronics and body included or not.
I found the kit for 16 dollars on ebay the seller got 5 to sell all sold out in 30 min
i bought one and want to by a second one but the seller only sell one in 10 days to the same person
i tought nice... saving around 200 dollars but after i payd ebay removed the product and refund my money :(
samething happend when i bought wltoys 12428 :(
know we bought the fy03 kit fingers crossed lol
hii is mst cfx and cfx-w two different chassis or same? and does it has 313mm wheelbase?
No, it's not the same chassis. Some parts are identical but CFX-W is much bigger. Normally it have 300mm wheelbase but it's buildable with 313mm also.
Which one is more quiet at the same speed? Yes, kind of weird question but i'd like to know.
The CFX is more quiet. Because of the planetary gear.
what kind of body will fit on cfx? Great vid, Matteo!
The same bodies as on the CMX fits. Ford Bronco, Landcruiser 40, Unimog 406, these are all Tamiya bodies from the CC-01 chassis.
Matteo's RC Movies thank you and Happy New Year!!! From Russia with love!
Dragsterkazan Thanks! Wish you happy new year too! Best wishes from Switzerland!
i see cfx has very limited space for battery placement. what is the maximum battery size for it?
I think the standart 2-cell lipo sticks are limit. teamorion.com/en/batteries-en/lipo/hobby-stick/rocket-sport-4200-lipo-7-4v-tamiya-plug/
Awesome video!
Thanks!
A stupid question, but what is the planetary thing good for? I don't see :/
The planetary gear gives a big gear ratio change. The force is distributed to several gears inside. So, there is not only one gearwheel to handle all the force. This makes it more durable and strong.
Danke für die Infos Matteo !
Gerne! Freu mich wenns hilfreich ist!
Excellent video as always, my friend, such clarity of detail. What camera do you usually use? I need to upgrade!
Thanks a lot! I use Sony HDR CX-730.
Great 👍 video Mateo Thank you for sharing
Thanks to you for your nice feedback!
CFX full form means sir n what is the CFX number in car where do we find it
nice comparison video!..👍👍
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hello sir I want 1/10 RC Suzuki samurai can u tell me from where I can purchase plz reply
Tamiya offers a Suzuki, but it's more a fun car. But maybe you can use the body...
www.tamiyausa.com/shop/110-trucks/rc-suzuki-jimny-sj30-wheelie/
if my setup is 27t brushed motor, what pinion gear size suitable for this cfx that doesn't heat up the motor easily ?
You can use every possible pinion, from 17 to 25 tooth. The gear ratios in this crawlers are not so high to overheat the motor.
Top review.
Danke Wolfgang!
which one do you think is better
CFX
I agree, buying seperate parts can be expencive...maybe i keep this as spare parts..thank you for your answear..
jan erik skogmo mod-56 Sounds like you have the RC4WD TF2 SWB chassis, which is very similar to the RC4WD Gelande II chassis.
I got my mst cfx all put together I put a black foot xtreme body it looks great I'd send you a picture if I new how
That's great Ryan! I but on mine a Blackfoot extreme body too! Have you already seen?: ua-cam.com/video/l5hsMq3fmoM/v-deo.html
You can send pictures: matthias.m@swissonline.ch
sehr schöner vergleich der beiden fahrzeuge, wann kommt ein vergleich mit axial und vaterra und rc4wd und ... ;D
Oh mann Michael, mach mich nicht fertig! Es gibt soooo viele, wo soll man da anfangen! Aber vielen Dank für dein Lob!
Great video Matteo. 👍😀✌️
Thanks Tybo!
are the lockers metal now ? could they be used in the CMX ?
You mean the lockers inside the axles? No, these are still the same, the axles are 100% same as on the CMX.
Thank you, that helped me.
Nice to hear! 👍 Thanks!
what is the speed control you are using?
It's a torque master from holmes hobbies (waterproof version): holmeshobbies.com/featured-products/torquemaster-brxl.html
very good review. thanks matteo... :)
Thanks Jepy! Glad it was helpful!
What tooth pinion do you use on this
I mean 20 tooth
are you using tamiya av pinion or mst m0.6 pinion?
CFX needs M06 pinion. works not with others.
May I know which tamiya pinion gear fit correctly?
isn't bit.ly/2L3xbmO
Yes, this works with CFX. CFX needs Module 06, CMX needs 48P.
Wheelbase 275???
It can be adjusted to 242, 252 and 267 mm
Is this 1.10?
Yes, correct! 👍
Спасибо 👍👍👍👍👍
Do any of yall know where i can get the fj body but the clear want the same fj body i got but clear please someone help
It's avialable from Tamiya Part No. 51331
www.tamiyausa.com/items/radio-control-parts-70/body-set-truck-71140/rc-body-parts-set-toyota-land-51331
Cool
Thanks!
I thought they were gunna use portal axles on the cfx....???????......
Thx again
nice video and awesome chassis
(so i understand : cfx is better than tamiya , lol)
Kaza, Kaza! Nothing is better than Tamiya! Never this will happen! Maybe MST can earn second place! :-)
It is a nice looking crawler but i like the cmx more and that is why i bought it.Which is your fault for showing good video`sCan not wait to get it
Thats nice! I am sure you will love it! Thanks for your feedback!
👍👍👍☺☺☺
Danke Sven!
😃👍
5:53 transfercase :P
Oh yes, I see, this is the correct word for it! Thanks for your attention!
*****
, no problem :)
'
what country made this R/C truck...
the axle with a driveshaft is a bend...
not good idea
Can not see a problem, every axle needs a driveshaft....
That motor looks high.
Yes, it is. Center of gravity is higher, but more space for interior and it's better protected from water and mud.
But I just finished building my CMX!
www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238002
Thats great Shawn! The CMX is still a super chassis! And your upgrades on it are awesome!
*****
Thanks! I know, it's still a very good truck, I was just kidding about needing to buy a new one only because a new one is available now. I have three scale trucks now, I think I'm good for a while.
