Yeah but ABC/Spelling tried to create a franchise. Kind similar to how Law & Order, CSI, NCIS all spun off similar shows in their respective franchises
With all due respect to Hollywood legends Chuck and Babs, and established Dynasty stars James and Emma… this show was all about Stephanie. She stole this show right from under everyone’s noses. Her weird placement in the credits prove even the show runners had no idea what they had in her.
Neither John James nor Emma Samms was an established "star". As for Stephanie B, her status reminds me of Larry Hagman; when Dallas first began, his character started out as a side role, namely to Pam (Victoria Principal) and Bobby (Patrick Duffy).
@@bonghunezhou5051 Very true! It was all about Bobby & Pam in the beginning. In the second season, and especially the 3rd, they were building up the JR Ewing character more.

What an incredible cast this was. Really. Between the EPICNESS of the Theme Song combined with the cast and the writers of Dynasty itself-this show should've been so much better than it was. So much better. Such a shame.

Dear Colbys ... dear Colbys ... Uncle loveth thee beyond even the ensnaring opening theme music. Uncle hath transported thee from his childhood and adolescence into adulthood. UNCLE LOVETH THEE !!! Dear publisher 'JoanCollins2009' of the Alexis kind ... Loveth we thee still !!!
Fantastic opening and the music is brilliant for the very rich, loved the background of each cast member to somewhat match there personality 3 favorites.... Charlton Heston - Powerful
Ooops ! Charlton Heston - Powerful Pacific Ocean wave. Barbara Stanwyck- Beautiful Rose Garden And Clare Yarnett - Very popular 80's trendy Dance Club. Too bad it did not quite reach an audience like Dynasty, probably because of the bad choice of casting Emma Samms as Fallon, Lol !! (nothing against Emma) but, dont insult the audience, Pamela Sue Martin had Blue eyes and a sexy raspy voice not a British accent. Maxwell Caulfield was delicious eye candy though... Thank you for uploading this timeless piece.
The Colbys had potential but it tried to hard to imitate Dynasty. They should have taken a few more risks with the characters and introduced more Hollywood-based storylines. Jackie Collins Hollywood Wives miniseries would have been a better show to copy. I loved Stephanie Beacham, Emma Samms and Max Caulfield. All it needed was Sammy Jo Carrington in LA trying to sleep her way to stardom.
Because The Colby’s were connected to the Carrington’s, what with Jeff ( loved John James ) being married on and off to Fallon. So essentially it was a sequel but showing Jeff’s family and I believe Alexis married a Colby too. So they called it Dynasty 2 initially.
Because Dynasty ended the 1984-1985 season as the #1 show on network television. ABC wanted to capitalize on that with a spin-off (even though discussions about Dynasty II were in the works a few years prior).
ABC programming totally wasted the show by scheduling The Colby’s opposite the powerful NBC Thursday night lineup. The smart thing would have been right after Dynasty the first season on Wednesdays, then move the show to its own night the second year.
I love all all the nighttime soaps from the eighties, but I have come to recognize and respect Dallas for being the King of the Hill. Knots Landing is a definite second, Dynasty third, and the rest fall thereafter. Knots Landing probably had the best and most believable stories. Knots Landing also ran the longest, fourteen years; Dallas ran thirteen; Falcon Crest nine; Dynasty eight; The Colbys two; Flamingo Road two; The Yellow Rose one. I love them all! But the Big Four: Dallas, Knots Landing, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest were the best, no doubt.
True Peter, but it ran for only eight years, from 1981 to 1989. Its first season began as a mid-season replacement in January 1981 and had only 13 episodes. So, yes, it did have nine seasons, but was only on the air for eight years.
+Peter Patzig Still counts as a season, many classics shows fall under this category as a mid season replacement, including perhaps the greatest sitcom of all time, All in the Family, which premiered in Jan 1971, but was still classified as a 1970-71 show. DALLAS will always be king of the hill, which ALSO started as a 5 episode miniseries, Warner Bros mistakenly named it as season 1 when they released the DVD's.
I'd have to say Dynasty is my favorite, then Knots Landing and Dallas in second, with Falcon Crest in third. I think The Colbys would've done better had it came two years earlier when Dynasty was rising to the top. They both could have went to the top 5 together, just like Dallas and Knots Landing. Its just a shame that waited such a while to have a Dynasty II.
BlytheWorld1972 Don't get me wrong... I loved Emma Samms in the role.... It just seemed like Tracy was a much closer physical resemblance to Pamela Sue Martin... height, voice, cheek bones.... and Emma and Stephanie could have done an awesome mother/ daughter combo... I would have liked to seen the two of them plot and scheme together.... might have helped the show last longer.
Gordon Piercey ... and even though Emma's chemistry with John James was OK.... when she ended up back on Dynasty in '87, Emma didn't seem to blend in and gel with any of the other characters. A bit sad considering the intense dynamics PSM had with Alexis, Krystal, Adam and her dear father... and that frienemy thing she had with Sammy Jo was just lame!
+Gordon Piercey Great idea. I think Emma Samms as Monica would have been good except I'm not quite sure if she could pull off the whole lawyer thing. Hmmm. But Tracy as Fallon - no way. Fallon is tough to cast though.
Dynasty was the no.1 show in the US at this time so introducing this spin off series might have seemed a good idea but in reality it hastened it's demise. The schedule became over saturated with soaps about rich people and the formula ran out of steam.
In the opening, there's a Hawaii Five-O style background credit Charleton Heston and a Secret Storm background credit Emma Samms. Besides Emma, Tracy Scoggins & Claire Yarlett were two of the hottest looking ladies on the show. It's ashame it lasted only 2 years. Should've kept it on for another year.
Love the opening surprise, where it sounds like it's about to hit you with Dynasty, and then BAM, a whole new theme tune. I distinctly remember having thoughts about that as a kid when I first saw it.

@HnHBlkM
Yes,Garret went back and forth between shows, as did Dominique
This is so awesome. I post this on my wife's facebook once a week, reminding her that I have my own show :) My name is Colby :)
Wow great cast
EXCELLENT!!!!!! This has got to be the BEST opening, with Falcon Crest's 5th season opening coming in a close second.
I dont remember Ken Howard being on The Colbys. I know he was on Dynasty as Dominique Deveraux lover and the father of her daughter, Jackie. Was his character spinned-off to The Colbys??
yeah
He was Jason Colby's lawyer, but he did some crossing over to Dynasty b/c of Garret and Dominique's relationship.
Wish I could find full episodes of the entire two seasons. I just finished Dynasty including the reunion and I'm currently experiencing separation anxiety. Missing the camp glamour!
it might be on Amazon or Video Dailymotion or Vimeo
You can always purchase the entire series on amazon.com or walmart.com!!
If you're looking for the dvds try Amazon or eBay.
Such a shame that this show wasn't written as well as it was when it first started. I mean, seriously, look at this cast-Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, Ricardo Montablan, Joseph Campanella, Stephanie Beachman, John James, Ken Howard, Emma Samms, Maxwell Caufield, as well as Tracy Scoggins and Claire Yarlett. What an incredible cast this was. Really. Between the EPICNESS of the Theme Song combined with the cast and the writers of Dynasty itself-this show should've been so much better than it was. So much better. Such a shame.
The show was lacking in storyline after a few episodes. The best part was the opening credits unfortunately and I do prefer this theme Dynasty.
+Karen Catizone The producers forgot to hire good writers, so that there would be some interesting plotlines. Such a waste of incredible stars. Great actors with nothing interesting to say.
Barbara Stanwyck and Linda Evans starred together in Big Valley in the 60s
This show was great television! I loved the music, and the cast.. Hard to figure that the show only lasted 2 seasons.
Not that hard. The writing sucked. That's why Barbara Stanwyck left after 1 season. Also the prime time soaps declining as a genre.
Unfortunately, despite the talent on hand, the writing was pretty bad.
Love how they just come out and call it Dynasty 2, in case there's any viewers scared to take a chance on a Dynasty type show with unfamiliar characters.
Yeah but they dropped the Dynasty II after 4 episodes and it just became The Colbys
I love Tracey and Claire, Mr. Spellins allways had great and beautiful actresses! Claire only take part as guest in several t.v. series, you found her in IMDB
So Dynasty had an expanded universe like the MCU.Interesting.
A radio show I like has a lost tv themes item and this was this week’s. I couldn’t believe this a theme tune for a soap, sounds more like Superman! Did John Williams compose it? It also has a hint of Star Trek: the Next Generation, I know it was earlier though.
Bill Conti composed this, Dynasty, & Falcon Crest. Fantastic composer!
Superb 😇
Dear Colbys ... dear Colbys ... Uncle loveth thee beyond even the ensnaring opening theme music. Uncle hath transported thee from his childhood and adolescence into adulthood. UNCLE LOVETH THEE !!!
Dear publisher 'JoanCollins2009' of the Alexis kind ... Loveth we thee still !!!
It was cool that we thought for a few seconds that it was the same Dynasty theme!
Barbara Stanwyck was the best part of this show!
When Stanwyck left, that was it, finished like the thornbirds !
@@lisaaugustin5400 I don't agree Season 2 was still very entertaining without Connie. Stephanie carried this show as Sable.
Fantastic opening and the music is brilliant for the very rich, loved the background of each cast member to somewhat match there personality 3 favorites....
Charlton Heston - Powerful
Ooops !
Charlton Heston - Powerful Pacific Ocean wave.
Barbara Stanwyck- Beautiful Rose Garden
And Clare Yarnett - Very popular 80's trendy Dance Club.
Why is it so amazing? The music?
I like this show as well....Yes, power and money being seen all the time..Heheehe
I heard that Joan Collins was really bothered by this show and asked her Dynasty co stars to not have anything to do with it
True she felt the spin-off was cheapening the Dynasty brand and refused to appear on it.
Why Dynasty 2? This was at the end of when night time soaps reigned.
Which episode did they drop the "DYNASTY 2" title?
The opening really is spectacular, but the show itself never came together, despite the big names in the cast.
ABC programming totally wasted the show by scheduling The Colby’s opposite the powerful NBC Thursday night lineup. The smart thing would have been right after Dynasty the first season on Wednesdays, then move the show to its own night the second year.
Wow!
Barbara Stanwyck told everyone this was the wurst thing she ever did.
Do you know who composed the theme song?
Amazing Indeed!!!! ❤
Very nice.
why do i get the feeling that this theme kinda sounds like "Dynasty" meets "Indiana Jones" or "Superman"??
can you upload the colby episodes please
Dynasty has nine seasons.
True Peter, but it ran for only eight years, from 1981 to 1989. Its first season began as a mid-season replacement in January 1981 and had only 13 episodes. So, yes, it did have nine seasons, but was only on the air for eight years.
Knots Landing starts in December 1979, Falcon Crest in December 1981. Are these "full" years??? Two mid-season shows more for you...
@@TheEwing69 well thats because its still part of Dallas
I'd have to say Dynasty is my favorite, then Knots Landing and Dallas in second, with Falcon Crest in third. I think The Colbys would've done better had it came two years earlier when Dynasty was rising to the top. They both could have went to the top 5 together, just like Dallas and Knots Landing. Its just a shame that waited such a while to have a Dynasty II.
Like Dynasty theme meets superman theme
BARBARA STANWYK!!!!
amazing
+wizz wizzingshire you left out a c

stanwyck
aka victoria Barkley
California was wonderful in the 80s.
anyone else think that Emma Samms should have been cast as Monica and Tracy Scoggins should have been Fallon!!
in a word no
BlytheWorld1972 Don't get me wrong...
Gordon Piercey Sooo on the money!
+Gordon Piercey Great idea. I think Emma Samms as Monica would have been good except I'm not quite sure if she could pull off the whole lawyer thing. Hmmm. But Tracy as Fallon - no way. Fallon is tough to cast though.
Billconti works majestic wonders inall his musical themes,. Starting wirh rocky dynasty and now the colbys.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
classic tv theme when tv shows had themes
They should have put the Colby on a different day n time it would have last.longer
1’13” KHANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!
Wow. Saturday night revisited …
Bring back Soap with Billy Crystal
