I own a Motorcycle shop in Chattanooga Tennessee, and The freedom 100 , and 106 cubic inche motors, are some of the best motors I've ever delt with.
Even though Victory has closed down, I still buy ,sale, and work on Victory Motorcycles. I sale every type of bike that there is, but I ride a Victory Vision or Kingpin for the most part, but I do have a few Yamah Warriors, and Road Stars, and Suzuki intruder 109s in my personal collection.

Victory is the way to go. I sold my 06 Vegas 8 ball and just picket up a pre owned 2014 highball. For anyone considering between a Vic and a HD if you want status and bragging rights go HD if you want performance reliability modern technology and all around bassass cruiser victory is the only way to go

This nearly maint. free motor means that harley is not the big boy anymore. and victory is american made. I can't believe Polaris shut this engine technology down, This motor could and should be in their Indian motorcycles.

Pollution controls, both here in North America and in Europe, are killing all air cooled vehicle engines. The ever increasing standards require more precise temperature maintenance than can be achieved by the fuel system alone. Additionally, the air-fuel ratios which produce the least amount of pollutants also run hotter than what is ideal for air cooled engines, which in turn increases wear and reduces reliability. It's the same reason why VW abandoned it's air cooled engines in vehicles that were being sold in markets with stringent pollution standards, but continued selling them in third world countries that didn't have such requirements. Eventually all motorcycle manufacturers, including Harley Davidson will be producing liquid cooled engines exclusively.

The fuel mileage is a bit optimistic. I've had 2 Victory motorcycles. They will get 50+ mpg on the highway, but if you're running the interstate 70-plus mph, it will drop around mid forties. I rode my 2008 Vision 7000 miles in 2 weeks to the west coast and back. I averaged about 48 mpg. I now ride an Indian Chieftain.

I like the modularity of the H-D Big Twin engine. You can use a thicker oil in the gearbox for better protection like the Red Line Heavy ShockProof. That oil is not suitable for the engine or primary. If let’s say the gearbox fails, you will not get metal parts in the engine. More expensive to build a modular engine but also many benefits.

Number of units sold obviously has nothing to do with quality of design and reliability. I do agree with you that as far as sales goes, Victory is no real competition for Harley. That's what a century of history gets you.
In regards to your comment about resale; who buys a motorcycle for an investment? Unless you are a collector, of course. I buy my motorcycles to ride them. Not to ride 3 miles up to the nearest bar, hang out, drink beers, and listen to my exhaust.

  • @VictoryPolice

Well that was Victory's first run of bikes ( I have a 99) and with all the updates runs and shifts like a dream. get all the updates and take it to a shop that knows the older units and they can dieal it in. I ride mine without concern.

It is fantastic the police are considering these bikes. I realize Harley guys are pissed about the bad press, but you have to admit, Harley is doing all of you the wrong way by not improving their products. Then steps in Polaris and completely changes the game. Now you don't have to modify an engine to get better performance. Victory and Indian are in the game, and Harley rider are stepping over to the dark side one by one.

That's interesting to know. Every manufacturer has the occasional lemon. And for one reason or another not all product lines by the same manufacturer are equally reliable.

I don't believe for a second that this Vision you speak of dragged the boards like you say compared to this Harley you speak of. If the Vision had been lowered maybe or it could be the guy riding didn't have the skills to lean with the bike. I would bet if you looked up the specs for these two stock bikes the Vision would have more lean angle clearance. I followed a Fatboy through curves one day in the Black Hills and I was held up behind him because his boards were dragging at their limits. As far as the brakes getting air in the system, yes the early Visions (2009-10) did have some issue with that on the rear brakes but Harley just issued a massive recall for 2014/2015!!!! touring models for the same issue with the master cylinders on them so good luck with your Harley. I'll keep my Victory Cross Country!

Exactly! They're OK If you just want to ride to the store, but dammit, Victory will bowser a hog on a dragstrip! And boy, that thing Mike Schultz said about his NASCAR days where he took a watered-down air cleaner out of a freezer, that sounds like a cheap, viable alternative to nitrous oxide. Holy buckets! 12 extra horsepower from just that? To give you a perspective, that's how much the Wright Brothers used on their 1903 flights at Kittyhawk.

@shrededwheat Could be due to the fact that Harley has had over 100 years to build it's customer base, and Victory has only been around for about 10 years. Harley is and has been the standard for cruisers for a long time. I almost feel bad that Harley is getting it's a** kicked so bad when it comes to the design and engineering of these machines. Hopefully Victory's competition will push Harley to move into the 21st century.

I think what they mean is that they don't replace entire engines like HD does. It is a fact that some HD dealers have whole motors. They also have their 'long block' engine program. Don't get me wrong I love Harley bikes, and they are more reliable than before but they are not anywhere close to a Vic or an Indian. I've never actually heard of a blown up Victory.

A lot of these things are true, a little exaggerated coming from a sales man, but over all is true that victory has very good technology in their engines. The problem here (and this is just my opinion) is that victory still don't get the styling of their bikes. Some of them are outright ugly. Especially in the USA, motorcycles are a recreational vehicle for most cases, so looks will be high in the priority list. That is where HD comes in.

He forgot the mention when something breaks in the transmission. They take an old transmission leftover that they don't make any more. Put it in a new bike as a fix. Because they can't afford keep extra parts. Don't forget to tell them about the intake problems, fuel pump problems, the clutch problems and computer problems. If you need a part, for get it! You have to wait months for it. there's people that have claimed too missed the whole riding season waiting for part.

What does that have to do with anything? Harley has been around for over a century and has a major advertising campaign going pretty much constantly.
If HD had to depend upon quality to stay in business, they would have been out of business decades ago as they couldn't compete with the foreign brands.
Some of us, just care about the ride and don't care about the particular badge that the bike wears.

Informative video on the inner workings of the Victory engine - terrible salesmanship. Repeatedly mentioning your competitors brand and how superior you are is the worst form of customer diplomacy. If you can't sell on your strengths alone, without mentioning your competitors weaknesses, then you shouldn't be selling, or your product isn't all you claim. I have both, a Vision and a Road King. If he tried to sell me, I'd be a little offended by the Harley comments as if he was convincing me what a poor choice I'm made with my life.

    • @amerigo88

I agree with you. However, I have noticed over and over that real salespeople work the front of the house and guys like this are kept in the back of the house: repairing engines, fixing computer systems, writing software, tuning the HVAC system, and so on. His communication skills reflect an engineering mindset. A few months as a commissioned salesman would either help him stop using the word "Harley" or he would be out of that job. But Victory is no more.

Popularity has nothing to do with quality. Just look at McDonalds, incredibly popular, but the food isn't good and probably never was.
In the case of Victory, they've been around for 19 years. It took the current manufacturers a long time to get the kind of general awareness that they have. If the engines are as good as I hear and the reviewers suggest, I think it's only a matter of time before they get larger.

What a crock of shit: don't misunderstand me, I love my victory, but I've had two major engine failures in 2 and a half years from new and 30,000 kms. First, the transmission started making a noise and getting false neutrals, then totally disintegrated at 22,000 kms nearly killing me. After full rebuild, which I had to pay half of the cost, the big end bearing seized at 30,000 kms.Polaris don't want to know you! I strongly recommend staying away from any Polaris product. They have no customer service whatsoever.
