  • It meant a lot to me to finally see my 93 year old auntie who is still so strong and positive, it just goes to show that a simple life, the sunshine and zero stress really does do wonders for your health. I hadn't seen her for years so naturally I was quite emotional we were re united and it meant the world to me that she was able to meet Achillea. I hope you enjoyed this video, thanks so much for your support on this channel. Stick around for singing at 9:16 onwards! (lots of you have requested I get back into it!)

I am not Greek or connected with anyone in this video but I felt a great sense of family and community from this video. Thank you to your family for allowing us to meet your dad's family and going back in time. That is the great thing about family, is doesn't matter where you come from or what you have but just that we love and are loved!

Oh Lia, What a heartwarming and touching video. I actually cried when you were with your dear auntie. All of us can learn so much from our grandparents' generation. I am grateful that my Grandmother lived with my family as I was growing up. It's so sad to see that this is not common in modern society. You are truly blessed to have had this opportunity to visit your Dad's village. Thanks for sharing this personal moment with us. As always, take care and Happy Travels! ♥️🛫🗺🇺🇸🇬🇧

There was so much that made me smile. I loved your auntie grandma! She reminded me of some of my great-aunts in the Appalachians of the US. My dad used to take us everywhere locally (outside of Atlanta) where he was born and raised and then to the Appalachians where his dad was born and raised. Dad called it his "stomping grounds". Also, it was so neat hearing you sing "Sweet Home Alabama" in Greece!!! Thank you for sharing!

First generation Greek on my father's side here. My greatest regret is I never sat down with my dad and talked to him about his life in Greece before he emigrated.
The only reference I found to his were immigration records that probably misspelled the village name because it does not exist today.
I had to shorten my full name from Psilopoulos because in the U.S. because everybody was trying to pronounce the "P"🙄
I did pass my dads middle name Demetrius down to my son and then he did the honor of passing it down to one of my grandchildren. Thanks for the emotional tour of the home country.

I would go to church with my little friends, the old Yayas taught my great granny how to make greek bread, they treated me like family.... I remember helping my best friend with her homework and she would share her greek school homework with me trying to teach me Greek... it was a wonderful experience.

This was amazing! Love that you millennials have such a strong appreciation for the simplicity of the village. I know your Thia LOVED Ach. Your voice is amazing! It kind of has a Norah Jones quality to it. Your outro (sp?) was a repeat of my favorite scene. Norah Jones covering Skynard? Brilliant!

Beautiful moments. It’s so wonderful to see your boyfriend with your family. Very heartwarming. We can tell you guys are very much in love. From the outside look like match made in heaven! God bless you both. It’s so nice to find someone who blends into your family so seamlessly. It’s great that you both share Greek culture. Very nice.

Pure Gold! I want to talk about all of it. Your Auntie reminds me so much of my Grandad and Great Aunts who lived into their middle 90s living simply and the strongest grip and hugs. Your dad’s tour into his past and Ach’s emotional response were everything. Love and hugs to you all. Thanks Papa Hatzakis for sharing your hometown.

Awww Lia! So beautiful! It's like that too in the village where my grandfather grew up in Puerto Rico. Makes you count your blessings.

Lia! This is completely “legend”ary! I LOVED this video. I (a Brit) am married to a Greek (American) and we go to Nisyros (next to Kos) where his family is from every summer (from the States). This so reminds me of the times we have there. I so relate to everything! My Greek is pretty good now but I am making a bigger effort this year with the Duolingo app.
