Beartooth - The Surface (Full Album Reaction)
#beartooth #redbullrecords
Honestly really enjoyed this new album. Its a beartooth record with positive lyrics. Everything else sounds very Beartooth
Lyrically and vocally, this has to be the strongest Caleb has ever been. Hes grown so much and progressed so much its crazy. Im also not a huge fan of the production but its still great. I think this might be the best theyve done so far.
Exactly my thoughts. Caleb continues to grow as a writer and artist
Honestly it’s hard to pick an album tbh. They all are special in their own ways telling a story of Caleb’s journey to happiness. I think either Aggressive or Disease has to do it for me though
I think you misunderstood. You just named their worst albums.
@@somedogsarecops2354 that’s your opinion, I love those albums
the Sick ep will stay caleb's greatest and most raw work. great performances from him on every track of that ep
DISGUSTING FTW!!
I was introduced to Beartooth after hearing Caleb's departure from Attack Attack, which i listened to religiously. Disgusting will forever be my favorite album by them, simply due to the amount of raw energy and emotion that's present in every single song
I hadn't heard of Beartooth until this year when I went to their show in Birmingham (UK) when I went to see Motionless, and Caleb's performance completely won me over and ever since, they're by far my favourite band. And this album was absolutely incredible. I don't think there's many songs of theirs that I skip across any album, but to me, this album is a masterpiece
Beartooth is great at putting breakdowns in songs that dont seem to fit or need breakdowns 😊
Below! I had a hard time digesting the singles but the album made me fall in love with beartooth again (i adored sick and digusting). This record is amazing aswell, below sound design with pop! 🤘🏼💗
Look the other way made me bawl my eyes out
I love this album, the lyrics are everything I needed to hear these days.
Anyways, my favorite is still Below.
And just cause, here's my rankings of all of their records:
1. Below
2. The Surface (It still has the new album hype and such, probably will drop to 3 in a few months)
3. Disgusting
4. Disease
5. Aggressive
A lot of albums released this year have been what I wanted, but this was the album I needed. Probably the best album of the year for me.
This is my favorite album by them. Before, my favorite was Disgusting (their first full length LP). I think the production is phenomenal. There are pop elements here and there, but it’s not OVERPRODUCED. Like everything else that’s “heavy”. I like a lot of bands that have that really polished sound, but that’s what has always made Beartooth stand out. There is a rawness to it. Also, take into consideration that he plays every instrument, writes all the songs, does all the vocals, and produces the record himself. What other musician can say they’ve successfully done that start to finish as many times as he has? Oh yeah.. and it actually be enjoyable lol. It’s funny reading people saying “this is the best thing yet”, or “I like all of their music.”.. his touring musicians are phenomenal, but the entire writing process is all him. I play drums, bass, guitar, and sing. Im in a band called Shallow Signals as the vocalist. Even though I can do all of those things, I couldn’t imagine doing more than writing the melodies and lyrics while on tour year round.. and dropping it on a regular 2-3 year schedule. Guy deserves more credit. He’s definitely an anomaly.
Bad Omens.
DIsgusting and Aggressive are my no skips albums on beartooth. I love Calebs come up and positivity these days but the dirty anger of those two albums really hits me hard.
The Surface & Disease are honestly two of my favorite albums of all time from any band any genre Caleb to me is a GOAT 🔥
the title and thumbnail are a bit misleading, i expected you not to like it. but i'm glad you do, because it's an amazing album.
i always do the same face expression while riptide is on haha. cheers!
My second favorite album of they year
Beartooth is the band that finally got me into metal as a genre in proper and it is so great to see Caleb flourish.
As for the mixing, i totally enjoy it as something that stands out compared to other bands as something unique.
Plus i enjoy the sound of this band in general.
Love how this cat will talk about how he doesn't like the production.... but he's head banging the whole time
Lol and?
So in the past I tried listening to every album Beartooth has put out and each one I don't even get halfway through but this one though has my attention from start to finish. Everything from Caleb's lyrics to the dirty sounding instrumental's very good stuff. I'm not the biggest fan of Caleb's vocals but he knows how to write some catchy choruses.
I love this record so much. I can’t stop listening to it. To me this Caleb at his finest.
I know I may speak for many but after having a harsh and dark past few years mentally between myself and my closest friend as well his girlfriend I can say I discovered Beartooth from an Instagram ad when Riptide originally released so most of these lyrics were quite emotional to me. The crazy part is Beartooth is meant for Caleb to put his pain into words and this is the first full album after Caleb went clean and he’s said that I Was Alive is his favorite song he’s done so far but he refuses to write songs as dark as Below. Caleb is the only reason that I’m paying attention to my mental health and I hope he inspires others.
To your information, Caleb shomo write and mix all the beartooth's album since the beginning on it's own
and fun fact, his whole discography saies : "sick, disgusting, aggressive disease below the surface"
Like this album, and honestly think it’ll grow on me more and more. I like the shift to more positive lyrics. But Disease has gotta be my favorite album they’ve ever done.
Listened 8 times. My fav beartooth record, contending for MY AOTY
Disgusting is still my favorite Beartooth album, but they're all very good albums. "Doubt Me" is my favorite song on this album musically, but lyrically "I Was Alive" hits so hard, love the whole album.
All their albums are solid to great in their own right but I think this is right up there with Disease for me personally. Caleb continues to evolve and deliver very good albums
almost cry with the last song
I'm surprised you haven't reacted to the Sylosis album.
Unpopular opinion, but i love the mixing/production. At first it bugged me but i love it now
this album. Although i'm a fan of heavy breakdown, this have some heavy vocals :')
Might love myself is prob my favorite of the album. I wish te mix focused more on the guitar tho. When I play along with song it sounds awesome😂
Look the Other Way was for sure my favorite ❤
Love this album. Relate a lot to it
It's sooooooooo good
Honestly, i think its their best album and i very much enjoyed it.
Love this album, the positive energy, everything. Only thing i dont like that much is the The Better Me, the style of that song doesnt click for me
please check out the new vctms album
I used to think all of Beartooth sounded the same! This album changed my opinion on them! Super solid album! Not perfect but pretty close! 79/100 for sure
I love how you sing entirely in Soprano and you trash them for not being hard enough. Maybe try Flyleaf
Great album - no bad songs at all, in my opinion. 9/10 for me.
Album of the year yes!! You need to change your video title 🤣
I don't even mind the instrument part I'm just too focust on Caleb
It was pretty solid but I personally preferred below
It's hard to pick between Disgusting and Below for me
Toof albums:
1. Disgusting
2. The surface
3. Below
4. Aggressive
5. Disease
…Debate… Let’s go
I think it's much better mixed as below was..... Below just hurts my ears. Tbh but this album just fits
I really love that Caleb is doing better and is happy and want's to share that positivity in his music, but this album just isn't for me. Some songs are alright, but definitely love Beartooths previous albums more.
Good album
Favourite Beartooth album is Aggressive. The Above has a mix I really don't like, though it isn't as bad as Below.
Beartooth is a great band but are they using the same riffs. ?
Not that I think Beartooth has top tier production or anything, but people complaining about the production on this album are really looking back on Disgusting and Aggressive with rose tinted goggles (especially Aggressive). Those albums are... not good production wise. Some people argue thats what makes them great, they sound very raw and emotional (I understand the appeal). Disease to me is the best produced album by far. Below is overproduced, and this album is somewhere in the middle.
Disease by far for me. But the one part I love so much about it is Believe and Clever
1. Disgusting
2. Disease
3. Below
I'm not sure what's up with the production but it bothers me to. Not enough to not listen to it on repeat but enough to make me question it
It’s a really solid album besides the fact that the feature is such a let down for the first they’ve ever had
I haven't jammed with anything from this band since Disgusting to be honest, everything was fine, but like "mid".
This is great, to be honest, probably will crack my top 5-10 of albums of the year (I listen to a lot of shit, except core music) and I think will be top 3 in the genre for me at least.
So much life, so many highs on this album (Might Love Myself drops some points for this album, but otherwise great).
I think below was better but this was solid. Caleb really needs to get a better producer though, the guitars sound weird
My new Reality came out just 4 days after I became a father for the first time.....and the lyrics got me 🥹🥰
This album was very underwhelming. If I ranked all their albums this is easily the worst one.
1. Aggressive
2. Disgusting
3. Disease
4. Below
5. The Surface
My favourite Beartooth album is Below. Sadly not into this one at all
The hook on The Better Me is solid but i don't like Country whatsoever.
Yeah
Came out of this album just... so happy. I love Caleb, I love Beartooth, I love this record. It's just so damn good.
I know exactly what you mean by the production, though at the same time the tone sounds very accessible and LIVE. Beartooth is an extremely live band, I've literally never had so much fun in a crowd and pit before. It's a feel good album you put on in a good mood, with the top/windows down, cruising through some canyons
I give major props for Caleb /recording & performing all of the instruments over the years but he's gotta stop mixing his stuff😂 Good album though.
Aggressive was my favorite album by them until this one now The Surface is my new favorite album by them
I’m so proud of Caleb I’m happy to see that he’s in a better place these days
This album is fantastic 🖤
I 100% understand the way you feel about the mix. I noticed it mostly when listening to Below and despite the songs being top tier, the mix just kept distracting me.
After listening to this record I've come to appreciate the slightly different sound in a space where I personally feel like song mixes all sound quite similar. After more listens I think the guitar tones in this record slap some hard tiddies.
Maybe I've been huffing too much copium but I really do enjoy their music so much more after adapting to the different mix. I hope you can to because it definitely pushes this album up to a 9.5.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
My album ranking:
1. Disgusting
2. The Surface
3. Below
4. Disease
5. Aggressive
Below is still my favorite from them, but this is still strong. That being said the last three album lineup has been insane from beartooth.
I've been following Beartooth for years. Caleb's progression is impressive. Being someone who has dealt with addiction and depression, I appreciate the lyrics from then and now. The breakdowns are fire. They are amazing live! So much energy!!!
Look the other way is such a good one!
1. The surface
2. Disgusting
3. Below
4. Disease
5. Aggressive
Fun Fact: Caleb Shomo writes and records every instrument for all beartooths albums, the other band members just learn them for live performances and videos.
Can confirm, although My New Reality doesn't have his lyricism, 50,000 Diamond Caskets? Guessing somebody else did some writing there.
Fucking love the boys though, don't get the wrong idea.
I am SO in love with this album..... From front to back, released singles and new songs, loved the whole thing.
Hard to pick a fav. I guess I'll say Aggressive because my fav track by them is on there, but Disgusting is such a fire album too. Disease is great, Below was fine, and now The Surface is... Mixed feelings on first listen, but I have to say, I kinda get into it more with each minutes listened
For me, a 6.5 or 7. Was enjoyable for the most part, but I was really hoping for a shift in sound and style. The positivity is refreshing to hear especially in sub-genre that's full of down and depressing lyrics, but musically it's the same song and dance for Beartooth. Even some of the "different" stuff they tried they don't seem to commit to fully. Still want to see them live though.
Disgusting is my fave album. Love these guys
I agree, Something about the production is off! Every Beartooth album has the same issue! Production!
I didn’t think they’d top Below for me. But, THIS is their BEST record. IMO. I Love This Record!
The super fuzzy muddy guitar tone really put me off the last album. Seems like they don't use it as much on this album. It's unique but in a bad way to me.
This album is like below and disease had a child but disease didn't mention it had the blackbird sessions.
Everyone who likes this album needs to go back to there older albums
I don't know Caleb's story but I just went through a huge change in my life for the better and I'm relating to all of these songs
Off topic, but it would be awesome to hear a reaction to the new War of Ages album. So so good!
Disease is my fav Beartooth album, without contest.
This album is amazing. Not sure if I like this or below more
I do like Disease a lot, but honestly after listening to the new album, I think it’s my favourite
Hot take, Disease is my LEAST favorite Beartooth record. It’s still great, but it doesn’t sound as much like Beartooth to me
I go back and forth between Disgusting and Disease, but I lean towards Disgusting
By far my favorite Beartooth album. The Surface is my favorite song out of all of their songs.
This album and the last one have the worst guitar tones I’ve heard on any records I’ve ever listened to. Not sure what gear Caleb switched out but holy hell
Best album since Disgusting. I said what I said.
Their debut album will always be one of my fav albums in general.
How long and how much do we let Caleb being happy be an excuse for making a really meh album?
1:00 - nah, the production is bad lol. It's compressed to hell and back. Which is a damn shame.
hey you, i know you, i like your vids
@@bogdanhxc Oh damn! Wasn't expecting that :) I'm a big fan of yours as well.
Soo bad
This album beats below
Disgusting is my most listened to album of all time. such a good album musically and def got me through some times :_)
Front to back I think this is up there with aggressive sound wise. Lyrics wise I give this the edge cause of the positivity..which I definitely connect with now. At the time of aggressive Caleb was in a different state of mind so I get that. I love beartooth spin them quite a bit!
I'm the exact same. Everything is there musically, love it. BUT the mix and production just sounds so flat and dry.
i think because im a bassist and guitarist i kinda liked what was going on in below more, but i think these are more important songs because of caleb's story. im glad everyone else has noticed the mix too because i find it to be kinda tiring for my ears to listen to, with how bright and compressed it is. i also kinda wish there were less singles so there was more to listen to when the album came out, which i realize is a weird criticism.
100% my favorite album is Aggressive. The vocals and instrumental are so good, especially in the remastered version!
