  • -Here for the first time is the radio broadcast of Game 6 of the 1975 World Series in pristine FM quality sound. This aired on WNWS-FM in New York (formerly WNBC-FM) when the station (and NBC) had adopted the 24 hour "News And Information Service" format (an idea ahead of its time that unfortunately didn't last). Curt Gowdy and Marty Brennaman do the call and then Red Sox announcer Ned Martin joins later in the game (when Brennaman, the Reds announcer had to go downstairs in case the Reds won the game and the World Series). The game ends on Carlton Fisk's memorable homer that forced a seventh game.
    -After the game, is something I've previously uploaded, two CBS Radio top of the hour reports recapping the game and a Win Elliot review of the game the next morning on CBS Radio (note that CBS couldn't use clips from the NBC Radio broadcast).

    Interestingly, Curt Gowdy and Joe Garagiola were a broadcast team during 1975 on the Game of the Week and the pairing did not work. Prompting Gowdy's exit from NBC Baseball broadcasts after game 7. Their broadcasting chores during the series were separated. Garagiola was a rising star at NBC. He did everything (Game shows,Tonight Show guest Host,Morning show) and he was a spokesman for Chrysler Corporation who were one of the sponsors of the MLB game of the week. Story was covered in Curt Smith's fine book on MLB Broadcasting history "Voices of the Game". Both announcers were favorites of mine. Thank you very much for this game.

    The 2 moments you all are waiting for..
    Moment 1. Bernie Carbo 03:07:11
    Moment 2. 04:24:05 you know what it is..
    However, you can start moment 2 at 04:23:23 it’s better..
    In my opinion this was the greatest World Series game period.
    The next year 1976, Major League Baseball drew twice as many fans to ballparks across America...This one game started the sales of local team uniforms..we are watching the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astro’s in the 2021 W.S. Notice all the fans in each ballparks, notice what their wearing..
    This game is responsible..

    I wish that the Original NBC radio broadcast from Game 4 of the 1976 World Series comes up on here, as I believe it was the last World Series to be aired on NBC Radio, before CBS Radio took over the radio broadcast rights for the World Series the following year.

    • @epaddon

      Actually 1975 was the last year NBC did the World Series on radio with CBS beginning in 1976, so the Game 7 upload elsewhere is the last NBC Radio World Series game.

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon  3 роки тому +4

      Most of them were a case of lucking into e-bay estate auctions at the right time and grabbing them. There were two major estates a friend of mine and I had inside tracks on, one from an Albany/Schenectady taper (the source of the 75 Rangers-Islanders stuff) while this estate was a NYC taper (source of 77 WS-6 radio and 78 playoff game and Boston Massacre TV audio). I only lost one auction pertaining to this latter estate which had the full last game of the old Stadium in 73 and Sterling's talk show afterwards and unfortunately I never found the person who won it.

    Why was this on FM radio? Wasn't The World Series a ratings getter worthy of AM radio which was still predominant in 1975?
    I'll bet this was on AM almost everywhere else.

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon  3 роки тому +2

      In 75, NBC was a lame duck network carrying the World Series. They had rolled out their 24 hour "News And Information Service" format with big fanfare in June 1975 and part of that commitment meant abandoning sports once their existing contracts expired. I think in New York, WNBC just didn't want to pre-empt any of their regular local music programs so that meant NBC's FM NY station (ironically the one carrying the News format) got it. Starting in 1976, CBS Radio carried the World Series through 1997 (as well as the playoffs which NBC Radio never did).

    • @MrJoeybabe25

      @@epaddon I think it was seen as a vote of uncertainness about NIS that their flagship station (WNBC-AM) didn't carry it.

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon  3 роки тому +1

      @@MrJoeybabe25 Seems that way. NBC didn't put it on any of their primary O & O stations (WNBC, WMAQ, WGY) and the format needed them if it was going to get some traction.

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon  10 місяців тому

      It did not air on 660. WNBC didn't want to give up its local programming for the World Series because NBC had already decided this was their last World Series on radio because of their commitment to the "News And Information Service" format and they were doing this as a lame duck. All seven games in New York aired on WNWS-FM (the former WNBC-FM) that one year.

    If I remember correctly the NBC AM Station had Imus and early stages of Howard Stern and Soupy Sales.. I could be wrong, the the massive egos of those DJ s wouldn't want to be preempted either. Just a guess.

    • @epaddon
      @epaddon  3 роки тому

      Imus was there in the AM, but Stern and Sales didn't come until the 80s. At the time, WNBC-AM's evening lineup was Oogie Pringle, Al Brady and Dick Summer. (Cousin Brucie followed Imus at 10 AM). I think it was strictly a case of not wanting to pre-empt music in general since this was the period when WNBC was trying to challenge WABC for that audience.
