❗Important update! Turns out the 4x1x1mm round magnets we used for the magnetic fifth wheel are basically unobtainium. I've bought these size magnets on several occasions, and they've made an appearance on prior projects such as the brushless 78 Trans Am for it's magnetic clutch. I had no idea these size magnets basically went extinct until trying to gather links for all the parts to post on Patreon yesterday. So now I feel a little dejected posting this video and STLs knowing that the well functioning magnetic version is basically pointless unless you can find, or have the correct size magnets. 4mm Round magnets without the hole can work, but the rod in the center helped make the coupling more secure. We'll continue working to update the magnetic fifth wheel design to work around easy to obtain, non-3D printable parts. Apologies for not realizing this sooner. Please stay tuned for updates. The 2mm version works fine, as long as M2 hardware is still a thing. 😆
Awesome! I definitely want to make one, I’m on the lookout for a model kit that I would want to use, but haven’t found one yet, at least not for a reasonable price 😅 A lot of the model truck kits are quite expensive 😬
My grandfather drive semi-trucks, and i asked about the 5th wheel part, cause i said it has more the 5 wheels... He said don't count the Wheels he said count the axles on one side. The main truck would basically have 3 then the trailer would have 2 or more then it would be 6 wheel some trailers only have 1 axle so then the truck would only have 4 wheels... Most people just count all the wheels which then that is when people just call them an 18 wheeler.
Would probably be a little large to look correct on a 1/24 scale truck. I'd recommend scaling the part down in your 3D printing software to be the size you want. You can then bore the hole out if needed to fit the king pin. I'd be happy to assist if needed.
