      @@Garsons-oq4lh Sources differ on Crawford's year of birth. While official entries listed it as 1904, Joan herself always maintained she was born in 1908, which put youth on her side. But as her brother Hal was born in late 1903, slowly thinking has put her birth-year as anything between 1905 and 1907. I have always leaned toward 1905, so in 1963 (the year The Caretakers was released) she would've been 58. But there's no real proof of age, so she could've been anything from 54 upwards.

    Mildred Pierce was Joan's best film.
    Possessed was her best performance. She was obviously great in Mildred Pierce, but she showed a different range in her performance in Possessed. Wish she did more Film Noir's.
    In Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, the beach scene where she gives her dying confession is some of her best work. She should have been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for that film.

    • @NOTHEOTHERGUY
      @NOTHEOTHERGUY 6 років тому +4

      I completely agree. Unlike Bette Davis shouting lines of dialogue (aided by an excellent choice of make-up), Joan's performance was VERY methodical and had much more depth. And to think Bette was sure she'd win for chewing up scenery like she did in that movie. Ha! Now, I do love that film (who doesn't?).

    This film must have been hysterical funny to real people working with mental illness. It totally misrepresents what was known, even in 1953, about work with patients with severe enough mental illnesses to need long-term hospitalization. Even today, borderline personality disorder is known to take very dangerous behavioral turns in some patients and is considered one of the most difficult of all mental health disorders to treat successfully.

    • @matthewdeckerofficial
      @matthewdeckerofficial 4 роки тому +1

      My mother has been working with these kinds and more patients for more than over 26 years, this, is a movie. Movies really only represent this medical field rarely and to the degree where it truly shows how it is to be a psychiatric nurse or doctor (my mom is assigned only a few patients and yes this film might not be accurate to even then but still...artistic license vs being in the real thing are two totally different things, and my mom is only allowed to talk to me about the aspects of the job and never can say how her full day was because of the hippa (spelling may be off sorry) act/law. Joan Crawford and bob stack did an amazing job in this film and the one for me who takes the cake is Joan. You know she’s living it vs just acting like everyone else the expression and feelings she’s going through in this can be transpired so well, and in this time period they were putting people still in padded isolation because it was a danger for themselves and most importantly the patient but we’ve changed enough to the point where we don’t need that technique anymore. So in a way this film serves as a time capsule/ also takes on a bit of dramatic acting. Right?

    How ironically odd that while she didn't otherwise care for the [post] Baby Jane "slashers"--as she referred to them--that followed, yet she didn't bother to state anything in regards to this film. Which seemed a good part for her to partake in. Definitely not a horror flick, and ideally accurate with the psychiatric wards of that era.
